My favourite Class 1 would be the mightly Union Pacific. I like the UP because of its colour scheme, and with the new old scheme brought back a few years ago. I think the wings on the front of the locomotive look really sharp. Also I think it is one of the best run class 1 railroads out there.

My favorite is the UP. They are the biggest railroad in the country. I have seen too many trains on their tracks to say that another railroad is better. Another reason is because they swallowed up the C&NW.

Yeah, you're right they are the biggest railroad in the country, no wonder they have so much traffic, the only parts of the country they're missing are, Alaska, the northeast and Hawaii, which is impossible to get out there. [^] David

bnsf is most efficient when it comes to intermodial. that is where the growth is and money. after living by chicago on main line of atsf and seeing how well the trains are run bnsf is hard to catch if any one can. willow springs ill has largest ups logistics center in world. ships more than 1000 trailers a day. each way .west east.something to see.bnsf smokes.

Used to be Conrail now have to settle for Norfolk Southern since they took over. Would vote for L&N, B&O, C&O, & Seabord but ever since CSX has took over its been all down hill. Its been said before and will be said again, the smartest group of managers who can't run a railroad.
Cool site to visit http://www.trainweb.org/peninsularailfan/index.html - local site, very cool http://crcyc.railfan.net/ - Conrail site, also cool http://www.thedieselshop.us/MPR.html

When I lived in Phoenix, I would take more pictures of Santa Fe over the Southern Pacific, just because of the paint scheme. As for choosing a favorite now, my hometown loyalty goes to NS. The reason is because here in Columbus, Georgia, I get to watch a variety of mixed freight trains, not long lines of intermodals. The NS folks also seem to be happy to talk about their trade...when they aren't busy doing their job, which is rare.

my favorite was always the Grand Trunk Western. Although, now it only exists on paper. We still have a few GT units still roaming the railroad in GT colors.
