Oh Jim - why would you want to sleep thru train horns? They are worth a bad nights sleep to me!

My parents still live on the farm, in Missouri, where I was raised. The farm is right next to the tracks. You get use to the horns and the trains, and the cows, pigs, chickens and my duck.

You sleep right through all of it. [:p]

F Y I The duck "bit the dust" many years ago. I had raised him in the chicken coop (I guess you can say he led a sheltered life). One afternoon when it was drizzling rain I looked out the window and notice he was near the electric fence. I didn't think much about it at the time. Later I looked out again and noticed he was still there. So I went out to check. As I neared the duck I noticed he had apparently tried to bite the electric fence. So I lightly kicked him to remove him from the fence and see if he might be ok. He was not. That son of a gun was hard as a rock. Tell me, "where did I go wrong (sob sob) I tried so hard (sob sob) I just didn't understand him (boo hoo sob sob) There will never be one to take his place (wwhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaa)"

Amtrak's K5LA horn sounds the best IMO. It gives me goose bumps everytime I hear it. :D

Not poor duck-- STUPID duck. By the way I did have to bury him. We had two dogs and you never feed one of your dead farm animals to your dog. It gives them a "taste" of the menu that is available but not in their dish. Starts a real bad habit--one that gets the dogs shot. [|)] So you just don't tempt them, and everyone stays friends.

Congrats Alaska! Welcome to the world of we talk a lots!

We have a particular engine that comes thru here that has a horn that sounds like it ought to cough and clear it's throat. The bells sound nice and clear, but this one is pretty sick sounding.

I should have picked up on that one! I usually can figure them out, but once in awhile someone will stick one in that truly stumps me. I was looking for a train phrase and you were just doing normal e-mail. [:I] Mookie was temporarily out to lunch!

Yes, I have heard odd horns too. Every now and then you hear one that sounds like it is gargling (I guess a little mouthwash never hurt anyone of anything). My guess is there is water either in the horn itself or in its air line.

Has anyone noticed how bad the hacking attempts have been this last week? The AOL screen doesn't even get filled out when I log on before the first attempt occurs. Every attempt stops me cold until I report it. Many times they come in so fast I cannot do anything but report one after the other. I am past the p***** off stage. They are thieves out to steal any info they can get their hands on and I am feed up with it. My firewall stops them but it is more than a nuisance. I would love to be able to administer some old west justice to them. [}:)]
