I found that there were auctions on e-bay selling locomotive horns. I actually bid on a Nathan 5-chime, but the bids quickly zoomed up to over $500. I wasn't going to spend that much, just to have something to use all my hot air with. Incidently, those horns use ALOT of air. So much for my idea of replacing my door bell. Admiral. Can you imagine your next door neighbors? In fact neighbors two blocks away would be coming to "visit"! Jen

We have a particular engine that comes thru here that has a horn that sounds like it ought to cough and clear it's throat. The bells sound nice and clear, but this one is pretty sick sounding. Mook Wow you people are really nice.

QUOTE: Originally posted by Alaskaman You're right! It sounded like a radio with a bad signal. I can see/hear why crews hated it... Is that cheaper than the normal kind? Or do they want to make it sound more annoying so people will actually pay attention?
QUOTE: Originally posted by railpac QUOTE: Originally posted by Alaskaman I know were are talking bout horns here but yesterday i heard a terrible sounding bell on one of the locos. Sounded like my digital alarm clock... you call that a bell???!!!!! Alaskaman, it sounds like what you herd was an electronic bell (basically a loud speaker broadcasting a bell "like" sound). The Milwaukee Road gave this system a try in the late 70s thru early 80s, but the crews hated them, and they didn't stay for long. I have herd a recording of one of these bells and they truly are annoying[^].
