I found that there were auctions on e-bay selling locomotive horns. I actually bid on a Nathan 5-chime, but the bids quickly zoomed up to over $500. I wasn't going to spend that much, just to have something to use all my hot air with. Incidently, those horns use ALOT of air. So much for my idea of replacing my door bell.

Admiral.
Can you imagine your next door neighbors? In fact neighbors two blocks away would be coming to "visit"!

Jen
Ironically, I had given that some thought. But I figured, since I live so close to the tracks, and we have 4 grade crossings in less than a quarter mile, the neighbors probably wouldn't even notice it.[:I] Unless they noticed hearing the horn without the usual rattling of the dishes in the cupboard. [:D]

As for the auctions, it is definitely always "buyer beware". I'm trying to work a deal with (OK deep breath) My sister-in-law's, boyfriend's, uncle (whew [:p]) that works for MOW for the Grand Trunk Western. I'm trying to convince him that he needs to let me look over all the stuff they send to scrap so I can buy the "salvagable" stuff, like old crossbucks, switch stands, etc. Haven't been able to convince him yet, but I keep trying.
