If this already-started topic bothers you so much, just stop reading it. But unless they make you a moderator, stop giving people orders.

You don't have to think of it as pink, you could think of the line as weathered red.

Nope Glen Ellyn CTA is getting so much hate mail because of this, i would not be surprized if they change it again

Whoa, there. I live in the Chicago area and the hate-mail thing you claim is news to me -- and I read three daily newspapers and watch local news for 90 minutes each evening. The news media has unilaterally reported the CTA is pleased with the amount of publicity and exposure the new color choice has brought to the new line.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Chicago Transit Authority, each of its commuter electric lines (third rail) from the suburbs into the city is color-coded for memorability. NO ONE will ever forget which one is the Pink Line. But nothing will be painted PINK, except maybe the background of signs designating the "Pink Line."

Since none of the print and broadcast news media is reporting what you allege about hate mail, WEEZ -- please disclose your source. Or is your statement just wishful thinking?

I too have not seen or heard of any mass protest about the name. Friday's Sun-Times had a story on it and it doesn't say anything about hate mail.

As it was said above, none of the equipment will be painted pink, they'll stay the dirty stainless steel color they always are. The story also says Silver and Gold were the two runners-up. Its Pink in name only so I don't have any real problem with it. Its just a name.

Yea, I'd say. If you don't like the topic don't read it. If you don't like the color, don't ride that line. There are alternatives. Quitcher***in.

Man, you guys are all pansies. Don't be so ready to fulfill the stereotype.

I like the color pink and I think it's both hilarious and at the same time pretty cool that they're designating the new line "PINK". You guys are just hating on it because you associate the color pink with being gay or with being "girly". Christ, how cheap and predictable. What is this, the 1950's? Quit fronting. Cut it out with the "sausage party".

Long Live the pink line.

QUOTE: Don't be so ready to fulfill the stereotype.
- You can make that weak argument, but think realistically and research modern Sociology.

For the last 60 years, with the help of "Hollywood" pink has been associated with "The Stereotype" you're referring to.

Pink is in style today because Hollywood, along with "high end" fashion adverstisers have "made it cool". This is the same group that for years has pushed that the ideal woman is 5 foot 7, weighs an anorexic 100 pounds, and the ideal "man" shows some "feminine" characteristics. [:I] You can do the research yourself and see this is being pushed by persons in positions of influence.

QUOTE: I like the color pink
- Yes, many do, for the reasons above.

QUOTE: You guys are just hating on it because you associate the color pink with being gay or with being "girly".
"hating on it"? Quit fronting? Sausage party? What's with the ghetto" speak?.

O.K, fine........Let's "Keep it Real: [8D]

It's not the 1950s, it's the 21st century. Since you obviously were not around 20 or 30 years ago, you have not seen the changes that those of us over 30 have seen. You can justify and argue all you wish, but we've seen society sliding in some very sad directions. Broke Back Mountain?? That is the tip of the iceberg.

O.K, more info; One of the reasons "pink" has been adapted by many males today:

From the 1980s thru today an overwhelming number of households have become single parent.....in most case single mom. Over the years many boys have not had many male role models in their lives, including a number of celebrities like Tupac. While maintaining "masculinity", many youths started adopting the traits of their mothers, which was to be expected. Mommy has been forced to become "daddy" as well.

Most didn't become "gay" as some are trying to insinuate, but nevertheless the acceptance of pink and other traditionally feminine traits by males is one of the effects of this. Again, do the research

QUOTE: Long Live the pink line.-GM
It may. Again, an unsurprising sign of the times. But it's important the we know why instead of being ignorant of the rapid changes ocurring in society.

"Keeping it real".[;)]

You really believe that? I for one don't.

I believe there is a minority out there who would really like to believe it is 'in', but most folks I know just roll their eyes in wonderment when ever the subject is raised with any degree of seriousness.

Keep your hands off that girdle!

Color and some other things notwithstanding, that movie wouldn't be very politically correct today - after all, the pink came from mixing two primers - red and white lead.

Anti-Gates, I'm surprised by your response, especially since you seem to be one of the forum members that engages in research and reading.

Yes, you are correct! However, you're not making the connection. There is that minority out there. THINK: What group has the largest concentrated group of single mother households in metropoliton areas in the U.S? I could also give you the detailed info as to why ultra-baggy jeans and tatoos are favored, but "Nuff" said! We could talk off list.

BTW:
I've been working with kids since the late 90s. I left transportation and am now a tech-ed teacher. I also work with kids in my church, so I actually get to see, hear, and interact with the young generation today. To be able to work with them, I had to do research. I kept wondering why certain styles have been adapted that would have turned our stomachs back in the 1970 and 80s. Being that I don't believe in political correctness and am conservative, I tend to hit kids and their parents between the eyes with info.

It makes me feel so good that some of the kids that graduate come back to visit me. Some shake my hand and thank me for having been so tough on them. One of my guys who wore the braided pink hair, body piercings, tatoos, and pants hanging off his rear end visited me when he turned 19. Clean haircut, dress pants, and a cool job. I was shocked! He stopped listening to goth music and gangsta rap. Makes more money than I do now.

Even if you're as tough as nails, most young people that strongly disagree with you will respect you as long as they know you care about them.

What do you think, do you like pink, silver or a different color? Do you agree with the new line color of pink?

Rest assured, it is no joke.

For confirmation, how about we go to the Chicago Transit Authority website for the press release regarding the official announcement:

Antonio:

Looking back, the trends of the 70's and 80's turn my stomach. Bell bottoms, mullets, big hair and movies like "Footloose"....Yikes! I'm 25 and glad I'm not really old enough to remember much of the 80's.
