In an unprecedented move, Point Comfort and Northern and Houston Belt & Terminal to buy BNSF and possibly Union Pacific. More to come....

I heard possibly both. I also heard a RUMOR that the PC&N is also looking at the NS so they can tap an eastern market.

Is the Point Comfort & Northern printing its own money in its diesel shop? How else would they ever get that much dough? And how would the PC&N ever get this merger past the STB?

Apperantly the PC&N falls into a special category that the STB developed for short lines to provide an opportunity for them to reach new customers. And NAFTA has been a boom for the PC&N.

The Question is.....Will the BNSF and UP allow this move to even happen?

I LOVE the PC&N! How do you know about them clear up in Colorado? My three favorite locomotives of their's are the 3000, the 3001, and the 3002. I expect the buyouts of both BNSF and UP should both go smoothly. I'm sure they'll be grateful to be absorbed into such a good company.

And I really like the electric blue paint scheme!

If approved, neither will have much of a choice. They will be forced by the federal government to relinquish controlling interest of their companies.

I spent the fierst few years of my life in Point Comfort. My dad worked a Alcoa for quite awhile. I remember the trips to the big city of Port Lavaca.

This has to be the BEST news I've ever read on this forum. I don't think BNSF or UP have much choice but to relinquish interest either.

They come through Flatonia quite often. All three of them. Always clean and painted.

I think you are mistaken. It's BNSF and CSX, not UP. Well, maybe it's all three.[:D]

When we get moved into the new house I am planning on doing all three locomotives. They really are well kept, and the paint scheme is attractive in its simplicity. They definately wouldn't patch the patches.

I think I heard one "official" state that they were going to paint everything in something resembling the T&NO, SA&AP, or EPW.

I'd vote for SA&AP if it came to that. Or maybe the GH&SA.

Where is the source. This topic sounds just like CSXT buys NS.
I like NS but CSX has the B&O.

Uh,
Hate to bust your bubble...But the HB&T hasnt exsisted for several years....Santa Fe and UP split it up around 1997....Now, if they will take a check, I am sure the PTRA wouldnt mind buying BNSF!

It is nice to give my childhood railroad some face time.
