Religious fanaticsm is a curse or all ages. It is a blight on something that is supposed to be a celebration of life and the "almighty" who I sincerely doubt excepts violence particularly in his name.

Al Quaida, Mary Tudor, Renaissance inquisitors of the Roman Catholic Church, John Knox, Kuresh (spelled it wrong), et al; they are all the same. They take everything out of context and completely too literal and twist it into some wierd hysterical crusade of mass ignorance, vanity, hatred and intollerance. Thease traites are closer to the that of Satan then of God if they actually studied their religious texts more carefully.

This current religious war between the U.S and the Middle East is a war that is really between a bunch of vain, arrogant and intrucive "Christian Elitists" of the West and the all hateful, ignorant, fanatic "Terrorist Scum" of the East. Both sides are a pox on civilization and would like to see them relocated to another planet so they can wipe themselves out and rid us decent folk of their destructive stupidity.

Religion and Politics are the biggest problem. The two of them are not compatible. They are as peaceful as paintshaker and a vile of Nitro. This whole thing of religion is that it has been missconstrued far too much and has held civilizations back too long. That is the main problem with the east. The biggest problem with the west is groups like those who go around to the third world countries and think that a flippin bible is going to fix their famine and pestilents even though man caused it.

Here is an interesting question for the religious folk. What is the purpose of God giving us free will if we are always praying that he give us a miracle?

We are our own selves and we are corporeal beings responsible for our own corporeal problems and our own corporeal solutions and neither God nor the Devil is really responsible for our own actions but ourselves. Sure there is the odd time where both entities make a guest appearance into our world but not all the time (physically speaking)

Religious fanatics are our own making and can be our own fixing if we stop them and shut them out. They have know place in a civilized 21st Century and I would suspect in a civilized after-life too.

The simple point I was making re T&P literature was they
Mentioned Bible passages. The Subject matter of this
forum was religious fanatics. There were quite a few
postings pro and con re this posting and I just wanted to
co-relate how the two items in today's world can cause
such division and you sure took me to task for the remarks
I made. I did not mention my religious beliefs & it's not
important to you at this point in time and I'm sure you would
not be interested . Perhaps in a future forum I will take
time to espouse them.

Ladies, Gentlemen, Railroaders, Railfans and members of the forum at large: There is an old saying that comes from the previous three centuries. Civil discourse (discussion) must by requirement remain civil. For the most part I must admit that this is a very civil forum to be as large as it is. There are occasions when the membership will rise up when something has gotten out of hand. In the Depot thread I have found some of the most delightfull reading that I have ever read and in the technical areas where the Clergy of the rails preaches the gospel of all matters in view worthy (for the most part) of hearing. Freedom is a treasure, most especially that of speech and assembly which are praticed well in these threads. It was James Madison, one of the authors of our federal constitution and its Bill of Rights that had an absolute belief in Freedom of Speech as well as Peacable Assembly, with some warning from his letters: Civil Discourse and Peacable Assembly are among the highest forms of civilization when practiced among men (read persons) of good will. I can speak now as to what I am getting at. It is very rare that I do not read a great civility in these threads and a great deal of respect and even honor among the participants. Let us then understand that we can read and hear contrary opinion, but have the good manners to know how to deal with it. sign me as Elder Piouslion (By the way Roy is one where he worships)

Well....there's religious fanatics, there's train fanatics, there's motorcycle fanatics, and fanatics over just about anything.
Aside from being a train fanatic, I'm a fanatical Atheist. I don't believe that religion is anything more than wishfull thinking, and a scam. (studied to be a Baptist missionary in my youth, turned me into an atheist)

Now before someone gets their nickers in a twist, it's my right as an American citizen to be fanatical about, or believe in, or disbelieve in, whatever the hell I like. Same goes for everyone else. I don't care for all the religious references seen in the signatures myself. I'm sure that there are many on the forum that don't care for mine, but they tolerate them. I tolerate theirs. That's one of the things that makes this country a fairly good place to live. If it gets to the point that I "can't" tolerate someone else's opinion, beliefs, or convictions, then it's time for me to leave, and find some where else to hang out. My recommendation for you is to do the same. Tolerance is a rare virtue.

I AM one of those people who wants to take "In God We Trust" off of the currency, but sheesh, if you don't like what someone's signature says or that they made a religious reference in a post or whatever, just don't read it. I don't find the particular thread you mentioned to be interesting to me, so I just ignore it...not that difficult.

I don't understand the problem some people have with religous references. If you believe, as I do, then they have meaning. If you do not believe, they're nothing. So why get upset about 'em?

And certainly no one should be censoring expressions of religious belief. It shapes the way people think, and understanding a Devine Belief is a key to understanding what a person is saying.

You know, "dog" is "god" spelled backwards. (the capitalization was left out intentionally.)
