Oh yeah...this can end up like the "vomit bonnet" for all I care..I had a vision of an SD40-2 in the new scheme...I almost had a heart attack!

They sure as hell better not call it "HERTAGE III". There's no ATSF to it...I got a new slogan for them BNSF-We'll screw up your paint scheme. I think it's a cheap Rio Grande style lettering...yuck, yuck, YUCK! I saw Heritage 1 and 2 locomotives yesterday...I would have never thought I would wake up this morning and find those OUTDATED...even the heritage II!!!!!! SHAME SHAME SHAME ON YOU BNSF!!!!

This is really ugly....but there's hope. Remember when the vomit bonnette came out and there was a real negetive response to that scheme? Whell they improved on it.

As another thought, if they merge with the NS all they have to do is change the color of the ns in BNSF.

But what I think they should have done is paint it in black and white like the NS

Living on the BNSF racetrack from Chicago, it is always a puzzle as to what motive power and color scheme you will see. This is what makes it a great RR to watch. Will the next loco be in one of the existing BNSF colors, a run thru with CSX , NS, UP, CN, or a leased unit?

Would you rather watch UP with continuous Armor Yellow? I did it one day and that was enough.

How many of you are going to go trackside to catch this new color scheme?

Thats a pretty good idea. And on this whiole subject I think there're gonna be some pretty pissed off railfans, and we are the people who look at the trains. our opinion is the one that should count. I live near a BNSF joint line mostly used by SD70MAC's so i hope they're not the first ones to go!!

The new logo isnt that good and needs to go back to the drwing board and then the janitor needs to come through and "accedentally" throw it away

Yeah, except D&RGW did it with class.

There are still diesels out there roaming around in Santa Fe Blue Bonnet! This means that three BNSF schemes later, they still have locomotives which have not been repainted in 16 years at the least! Not that I'm complaining, since it looks better than any BNSF paint job.

In Montana two years ago, I saw a string of hopper cars still wearing GN and NP logos.

They reached their peak with Heritage II--I agree, if it's fine don't change it!

Anybody up for steam locomotive black, graphite, and soot [:)]?!

See you around the forums,

It had to happen sooner or later and after looking at the scheme for an extended period of time I guess I'll be in a minority but I like it. It sure is a big improvement over NS, CSX, CN and UP.

Better yet, use the money used for the repaint to sponser a real good drag racer or NASCAR race team on the strips and tracks for some real advertizing among the up and comming users of freight and intermodal services. I can just see the dragsters now in the Freight Train II Class of top fuel dragsters. On the strip BNSF would be the All the Way vs. the NS Thoroughbread or the UP Winged Lightning vs. the CSX "T." On the NASCAR circut all four of the big class ones having teams could be real feature of the tracks through out the country. Just imagine the exposure this would give the rail companies in the world of racing and the sponsorship of the industries that happen to or should be useing the railroads for their long haul transportation needs. Sounds crazy, but so did computers on the railroad 50 years ago.

Can't say that I like it either, that first picture looks very Photoshoped and I didn't beleive it until I checked out their site. I think someone above put it perfectly...it looks like a toy rather than a piece of industrial equipment. Now I will just look even more forward to the odd Santa Fe's that still roll through now and again.

I think their new paint scheme is kind of shocking, but BNSF is a progressive company. At least they are still honoring their heritage though. It will be even harder for me to hear "BNSF Railway Company" rather than Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway.

BNSF should spend the money where it really counts. Use the "image" money on capacity improvements--increasing a siding or two, or maybe lenghtening double track. These changes will actually get them some additional customers. I don't believe a swoosh and stylized lettering will increase the carload count.

UP has tried the "image" improvement ploy with "We Will Deliver" and "Building America". Regardless of the image, all the customer wants is consistant quality service.

So why spend the additional dollars needed for such an expensive redo? Especially when the dollars spent on the change will not net one additional customer.

Hmmm.......this new paint scheme must make the locomotive 1) go faster, 2) pull more, or 3) get better fuel economy. At the very least it must create a discernable return to investors...... Railroads don't care about paint or how the equipment looks.......only railfans do...... so why would they change the paint scheme and logo?

That logo is not that good looking. BRING BACK THE WARBONNET AND THE ATSF NAME.
