This has to be the 'Edsel" of paint jobs. No imagination. No logo. At least the other roads don't waste their money on design teams and paint every few years.

Leland Knickerbocker is turning in his grave if he hasn't already (Vomit bonnet would've done it). He had style and class.

Take care,

Im gona say this just one time. Even though the BNSF just anounced their new Paint&Logo. It will take years before you will notce the real change. It wont be right away.
As for the mean time,There will be "THOUSANDS" of BNSF H2's that will still be around, and I am darn sure that a Professional Railroader who will tell you him self.
There will be a very slow transtion over to the new. So stop complaining and get out there and get those Photo's.

Iam new to this forum but thought I would throw my 2 cents in. I never cared for the orange look to begin with. But after awhile I thought they looked alright against the green backdrop of Stevens Pass. But I dont think I have to worry about the new look. I,ve not seen a Greinstein green SD70 in the 15+ years I,ve been taking pics up here in the last place you see anything new. I dont like the new look but I will take a pic of it IF and WHEN it gets here. RATon the tracks in Seattle.

QUOTE: As another thought, if they merge with the NS all they have to do is change the color of the ns in BNSF.

But what I think they should have done is paint it in black and white like the NS

If they did merge with NS all they'd have to do is make the "NS" in BNSF black and white. It's an interesting thought.

hey, its something new, i like changes. Give it a few years and they will think up another new paint scheme to add to the variety of color on BNSF. Thats why BNSF is one of my favorites to railfan because of the variety.

Heck, maybe I can get KALMBACH to publish a book of the photos... in thirty years, if I'm still around.

Folks, I would never have known Santa Fe's Warbonnet paint scheme if I hadn't played with a LIONEL diesel in my misspent youth. It's taken me years to acknowledge that the NYC ever painted their locomotives anything other than black- because the NYC steam locomotive I had from LIONEL was, uhm, black.

Corporations change their public persona all the time. My kids (aged 22 and 20) give me a blank stare when I talk about "Ma Bell"... but they recognize the AT&T logo.

Personally, I hated it when red, yellow and silver disappeared from the Santa Fe. I see the Big New Santa Fe "heritage" scheme as a "pumpkin" scheme. Unfortunately for my personal feelings, professional marketers and wiser heads at BNSF made a decision for me. And so it is here.

Now, if UP went to something other than Armour Yellow and gray... oh boy, would I complain! And I'd probably get the same results, too...

Im just very glad that I don't see any ATSF Locomotives that had that stupid ugly Yellow&Sylver around anymore,My god .......you talk about an ugly paint job,Oh hell ill take a Red&sylver over that thing anyday. MY GOD!

There is nothing with BNSF's new Logo.
If you people want to complain,Then go down to the BNSF HQ yourself abd complain to them while your there, other wise this new logo "IS" gona and will be applied to all RR property and there is nothing you or I can do anothing about it.
Besides over a sudden everyone is all complaining about what the BNSF is doing and not the CSXT or NS or even the UP. Besides UP has been around for how many years now and I myself still don't hear no complaints about there Yellow & Grey paint. Come on lets get real now. If your gona complain about the BNSF changing their paint & logo then I think it's time to start complaining about Union Pacific's Yellow & Grey paint job.
I have nothing agenst the UPRR anyway.

Ah Willy - you, personally, can't offend anyone in the first place and in the second place, it is an opinion and you are entitled to it, no matter how much I think it stinks and must totally disagree with you.

But you are backing up my point that I think it appeals to the younger people in our forum. And that could be the reason the BNSF is doing this. Appealing to future customers, future workers - becoming a.....well, the same reason a lot of people dye their hair and go for face lifts. It sure isn't because their face hurts and needs to be lifted or their hair doesn't match the wallpaper....

To me the Heritage II paint scheme is among the classiest ever. The original lettering and Santa Fe styled nose emblem are a distinct part of it. I feel the new lettering detracts from the overall image. I do agree with adopting the letters BNSF as the company name . It is less a mouthful and easier on the mind and tongue.

Let them know how we feel! Contact your regional BNSF talking head and tell them their new logo sucks:

http://www.bnsf.com/media/html/community_contacts.html

Do they really think someone will see this and think "Hmmm, I think I'll ship BNSF because it has a brutal racing stripe on it"?

They also have an 800 number to call incase of a railway emergency (800) 832-5452. "Hello, operator? Yes, I just saw a ugly train on your mainline. Help!"

Trainjunkie - you're right. I see 40 yr old Blue Geeps pulling the local freight every day. They obviously need a paint job, but now I'm thinking they look just fine....

first off..that made no sence.....second... paint is paint...... the units could be painted in black with purple pockadots for all i care.... they are going to profrom the same function regardless of what they look like on the outside... a locomoitive is heavey equipment.... it is designed to get freigth (railcars) from point A to point B... and it it wasnt for the fact that the locomotive steel would rust away to nothing in a few years if not for paint...they wouldnt even bother to spend the money on the paint in the first place if it would save the a few bucks....... i just dont see what all the major fuss is about ..... its
just paint people
csx engineer
Ah CSXE - I love your crusty point of view. But have a question - if paint is paint then why is BNSF changing their paint jobs? Sure, we are complaining cuz it's pretty ugly, but they seem to feel the need to change from what they have to this. Why not go back to just the Henry Ford any color - black. But then, maybe you and I are in agreement on this one - maybe all black would be good.

[^]
i cant anwser why they just dont paint eveything black...im not a railroad executive that makes the final desitions regarding expenses....but im sure if you get down to the nuts and bolts of it... this new paint job costs less in the long run...either cost savings in the logo decals by going with a less complicated one ... cheeper simpler paint job means less time in the paint shop...less down time that the locomotive will have as a result of painting..which translates into more revenew earning time.......less man hours payed to the painters for a simpler paint job...and the cost of the paint might be just overall cheeper then what they are paying now...that is why csx changed its paint from the 3 tone to the 2 tone...saves 700 bucks per unit just in paint savings alone..not counting man hour cost saveings of the painters in the paint shop.....and the unit is back in revenew service faster making money for csx....

Who cares if it's ugly or not?

Trust me, it'll take 20 years to paint three locomotives, heck, they still have some in SP clopping around.

so by 4917 AD, unless Jesus is born again, and a new year numbering system appears, maybe 20% of the locomotives will be painted.

They need to go retro Ford has done it, 2 times, Mustang and GT so did Shelby. And ConnDot is retro too. Bring the Warbonnets, BN's, Burlingtons, and Great Northerns. Set them by region and everytime you see it, you'll see the classic days. And Maybe Conrail trains should have the Pennsy Pinstripes and NYC. And NJ Transit should have the CNJ look.

Everything no matter where you look is turning into the future. It looks like something from the future but hey, cars are beginning to look the same way. Its just a sign of times.
