And just how did you get so lucky to have spare parts available?  Most of us would have something much more useful like an extra TV antenna.Whistling

I have no idea - unless I bought enough to do both sides but only had to fix one at some point in the past.  What's amazing is that I even had cable clamps tied to the cable - saved a rushed trip to wherever to find the cable, etc.

Ended up being a fifteen minute fix...

One thing I have learned from my efforts in racing.  If something breaks - buy two.  If it broke once IT WILL break again.  From the Boy Scouts motto - Be Prepared.

The bad thing about buying two - when the next one breaks you will likely have forgotten where you placed the second one when you fixed the original break with the first one.

AmenYes....and the stored part magically appears AFTER you buy another pair and do the repair. Now you have two spares.

Laugh It's like Deja vu taunting me! The light went out in our fridge. I went to buy a new appliance bulb that we stock at work. They are $1.99 for one or $2.99 for two. A coworker tried to convince me to buy two. "You know you're going to need another one down the road anyway and you'll save a buck". I explained that when I needed another one I probably wouldn't be able to find the extra, so I purchased the package of one. I went home last night, took the bulb out of the package and took off the light cover. Can anybody guess how many bulbs are in the light fixture in my fridge? Dunce

Haven't seen many geese since fall - but there have been those who stick around instead of going south.

Got home from a meeting tonight, pushed the button for the garage door, and it only went half way up.  Closed it again, and it opened, but I could see something hanging where nothing should have been hanging.

Turns out one of the tension cables had given up the ghost.  As I looked for what I had to fix it I discovered (!) a replacement cable, with clamps.  So it's fixed.

Nope, still have lots of the geese on the river up here in Calgary.  Supposed to get another chinook blowing in, starting tomorrow and much stronger on the following days.  Are you expecting one too?

The Chatterbox is appropriately named for winter, that's for sure.  I was able to make a saunter to the drug store and back this afternoon, giving me a walk of about a mile and a half.  Heard four trains, saw none of them.  [:-(]

Paul's right about the chance of snow Saturday; it could be as much as three inches, but will more likely be about half that.

I have an errand to run in Elmhurst tomorrow, returning (with gratitude) the child seat we borrowed over the Christmas week.  The weather word for tomorrow is "blustery", so I'm not sure I'll linger long to watch trains or anything.

MC, I've been seeing and hearing formations of your bombers for the past week or so (I love the sound at high altitudes...close at hand, not so much).  I did catch myself putting my hood up...

Anyone missing several thousand Canada geese? The goose poopers around here have a penchant for going after pedestrians, wandering into traffic from the medians and turning sidewalks into minefields....

Right at freezing this morning, with several inches of snow from overnight, but the promise of 4-7" today and tonight.  Could be interesting...

But it is winter in northern New York.  In 1977 we were recovering from the Blizzard, and in 1998, upwards of 10,000 power poles came down in the  Ice Storm.

I don't know about Wisconsin but it was around 20 degrees this morning when I left for the train station.  We may get about an inch of snow on Saturday.

Utah had the fans on high, Kansas & Nebrasky had the vacuum clears on as high as they go. 61 degrees and 50+ MPH winds. The mountains are dealing with blizzard conditions, while the the plains have seen not a flake. Hanging light fixtures on the 11th floor offices were swinging several inches. Nobody light a match!

Is that why it's so windy here in Kentucky? I just figured all the politicans were yelling at each other.........

Taking big rolls of 'Shop Towels on a Roll' to Wisconsin, so they can be made into Shop Towels on a Roll and Shop Towels in a box. Was near 70 in North Carolina today, supposed to be 15 in Wisconsin tomorrow.........

At 6:45 this morning, it was +38: I did not look out the window to see if there was precipitation. At 8;40, it was raining, and there was black ice in spots. It was snowing after church--that has stopped, but the temperature is now (1:55) 34.

Paul of Covington

Sunshine?   They're promising us that we'll see some this weekend.  It'll be the first time in at least a couple of weeks, and before that we've had a very wet season.  The ground on the side of the house is a flat expanse of bare mud with a few weeds in it.   I think the grass just drowned.   I have some plants in a greenhouse that I haven't had to water in two weeks.  The relative humidity has been within a couple of points of 100% the whole time so the water is not evaporating.  Oddly, except for one day, we haven't had a lot of rain, just mostly an on and off misty drizzle.   My mushrooms have mildew.

Quit hoarding the agua! The east half of Colorado needs it pretty bad. (don't light a match around here, the range fire will be off heading towards Kansas in a heartbeat.)

MC --- we have been hoarding the rain as well.  Neighbor claims 12.35 inches last 4 weeks.  Every one in town gets stuck in mud if they even think about getting off the pavement !  Now supposed to have 6 - 8 days dry  ( I hope ).  Wind is blowing every thing around with many trees coming down.  Have 2 trees am worried about.

Well, whatever work the web lackeys did, they must have wrapped up, because I can log in and reply again. Customer service said something about hardware and software upgrades........

Saw the Burlington Job today as I was coming home from work, wonder when they started using two engines on it. Spent the afternoon reading MR, Trains and the new Micro-Mark catalog..........

Load for the Spartanburg, SC area is ready to go when I get to De Pere Sunday, haven't looked at my return load yet, probably a Darlington load to Chicago..........

While I was calling Pat to see if she needed any errands run, the home signal at Grace lined up for an eastbound on Track 2.  I held back a little until that train (intermodal, with lots of repo empties on the hind end) blew through.

Sounds like the same train I watched leave Global 3 on the webcam earlier (around 2-ish?).

Bee-yoo-tiful day here!  We were promised mid-40s; the official temperature is currently 51.  Tomorrow was supposed to be better; I'll settle for a match (no, MC, not that kind!).

The trip to Elmhurst and Oak Park went smoothly, though I was cheated out of almost a mile of walking (Pat dropped me off at the library).  I went to Elmhurst, stayed for an hour, then went east to Oak Park for lunch.  They have deck all the way across the Des Plaines River (not quite solid) for the new third track there.

Dined at Q (my favorite Five Guys closed up), and I gladly left most of my fries behind in order to catch the next returning scoot to Elmhurst.  Had I not, I would have missed a fantastic eastbound manifest freight that went through slowly, even stopping a couple of times.  The time seemed to fly by (truth be told, the scoot I was on was having some PTC issues, and made a few extra stops of its own, not to mention arriving at Oak Park late...how many times does that happen?).

So, after less than an hour in Elmhurst, I caught the next westbound scoot (not late) toward home.  There was a lunar light at the Park control point, and I hoped I wasn't missing another good freight.  It turns out that it was a grain train, but it didn't go through until I could get off the scoot and watch it in Lombard.

While I was calling Pat to see if she needed any errands run, the home signal at Grace lined up for an eastbound on Track 2.  I held back a little until that train (intermodal, with lots of repo empties on the hind end) blew through.

I have pages and pages of notes; I'll get to them once I get caught up on other computer stuff here.
