For the first time in several years, we actually sold out of chicken before we ran out of customers!  We just never know how things will go.

It's too bad for those who didn't get any dinners, but makes closing things out that much easier!

Good Morning:

Here in the Wichita area, the wind has finally died own, and it has become a beautiful Fall Day, temp at about 32 deg, and it is supposed to have a high of 50. May my morning trip out this AM.

i know Joe Koh reports on the railroad activity arounbd his home town, and I notices something 'strange'  around Mulvane this AM.  There has been a mixed freight parked on the North line since early Thursday afternoon, and there is a UPRR (trackage rights?) tank train parked on the line to Wichita, and also one parked out East of town.... Pretty unusual for around here... Wonder if there has been some 'unreported problem' in the area (Wellington yard and Sou T-con )?  Just askin'.Whistling

We were a bit luckier out our way.  The wind was still nasty but not too many problems with downed trees or power lines like some areas.  The snow is expected to be a half inch at most so it barely counts.

We are somewhere in the center of the storm now, with the temperature dropping...it was over 60 earlier today, and is now 40.  After "sunrise" tomorrow morning, the rain will change to snow.  Temps will continue to drop until about noon, when the precipitation will end.  (It will actually go below freezing tomorrow night).

We'll have a lot of small branches to clean up once the wind dies down.

Eastern Nebraska and western Iowa under water in places.  UP is shut down.  I tied up yesterday about this time away from home, 9 times out and I'm still 9 times out 24 hours later.  UP has spots under water, CN does too.  I've seen pictures of the Boyer River around Logan IA over the UP and CN tracks.

My supplies were running low, so I ventured over to the Wal-mart near the motel. The sustained 30mph winds weren't too bad.  The 50mph gusts made me feel like those Weather Channel idiots trying to stand out in the winds during a hurricane.

The wind quit and the large glowing orb is about to make an appearance.....Appears Sioux Falls is next on the DQ Blizzard tour.

(The whole side of the house was caked in two inches of ice and snow. Now falling off in sheets)

You're right about that.  Lynn has observed that I'm not ready for retirement and she hit the nail on the head.  The hardest part will be what to do with the free time when I stop working.  My job has its good days and bad days, but overall I like my work and it pays well so I'm expecting to keep working for a few more years.

On the other hand, we might be celebrating our weather Thursday with a DQ blizzard, too...it's supposed to be tickling 70 degrees out there!  Trouble is, we may need umbrellas to do it.

Most of what was left of the snow in our yard (very tall piles at one point, from our driveway) is pretty well gone.

Mine's a Hawaiian Blizzard, with strawberries instead of bananas (allergic to fresh banana, doncha know).

Currently outside the 11th floor here it is sixty degrees and windy.

They have already issued BLIZZARD WARNINGS for most of the east half of the state and east of the Continental Divide up high. The media is all obsessed with Snowmageddon. Guess tomorrow is gonna be a DQ kind of day.

(Make mine a Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard please)....Wonder what Johnny is gonna get?

Darn. Guess I don't have to round up a couple of semis full of Frosted Flakes and Rice Crispies to throw in the ditch with the milk. They can stay in the median of I-80 in Iowa.

And it's a little early for some maple syrup to sweeten your breakfast...

Some years ago, a local produce company lost a truck in the median of the Interstate near here.  Figuring that it would simply rot away, or something, DOT didn't make them clean up the various fruits and veggies.

Big mistake, soon rectified.  Seems the local wildlife took a fancy to all that good eating.  Unfortunately, that meant they had to cross the Interstate to get to it.

That's not too bad for the little guys like rabbits and squirrels, but the bigger animals (up to and including deer) tend to cause problems when hit by a vehicle...

On a trip to Florida several years ago I was making great time until I got to the Florida/Georgia line - a truck load of assorted produce had been involved in a accident and spilled its load across the Southbound lanes of I-95 - ended up being stuck in a non-moving jam for about 3 hours.  Once traffic started to move and I got to the scene of the accident - the trailer had been moved to the shoulder of the road so it could be loaded on another truck and several Bobcat loaders were shoving the spilled produce into the waterway.

Several days later there was a blurb on the 6 PM News about the residents of Fernandina Beach complaining about 'rotton garbage' that was floating down the St. Mary's River through town.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

.........  It was pumped off (as was the milk - some 48,000 pounds of it...)

If the milk tank had ruptured, we'd have had the environmental conservation spill people - that much milk is considerd a hazmat problem.

Well of course it is. It's not like you can just round up 48,000 cats in a hurry to lick it up. Even if you could, where do you find someone who can succesfully herd cats?

Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.

Electroliner 1935

Was anyone crying about spilled milk?

No milk was spilt.  A little Diesel from a hole punched in one tank, but most of that was caught, so no environmental disaster.

Worst part about the Diesel was that he'd just filled up that morning.  It was pumped off (as was the milk - some 48,000 pounds of it...)

If the milk tank had ruptured, we'd have had the environmental conservation spill people - that much milk is considerd a hazmat problem.

Absolute mess around here this morning.  I think we got the entire gamut of freezing precipitation.  Still, it's above freezing...

My morning was a loaded milk semi that ended up in the trees at the side of the road.  I wasn't driving - I responded with the fire department.

Good to be home. At least the real estate isn't sliding down the hill like to the west of here and not raining on top of snow like east of here in NE and IA ... Population in the ditches of I-80 in NE and IA seems to be growing. (BrianH: Ft Dodge was a lesson in futility)
