joe
Still plenty to do at work.Ns was clear when I left work.Chores to do here at home.
Darn! I had visions of a whole train full of NYC RDC's with jet engines lashed to the top.....
(Think work is getting a little too weird and it's rubbing off... I have the sudden urge to jump up and down on Jay Gould and some of his henchmen's graves for the southern Illinois headache I got handed on the Big 4 Cairo Branch.
Sorry, I didn't catch that one. I'm afraid I can't make it on Sunday, Johnny (we're debuting a new synthesizer in church that day, and Pat and I are actually benefactors on this one. The organ was poorly maintained for too long, and would cost a half mil to rehab. I have to work the sound system, and that puppy's going to cause a lot of changes, I just know it!). Maybe we'll be able to wave at you out west somewhere.

CAACSCOCOM--I don't want to behave improperly, so I just won't behave at all. (SM)
Ns had a stack train start back west after work.Had to go back into town for a different bulb for the truck. The bugs were trying to use me for a smorgasboard last night.Everything is back in place.Plenty of work at work for tomorrow.
Wow! what have I been saying ?
I leave here Saturday morning and arrive in Chicago SUNDAY afternoon. No rockets needed, just a clear track is all I want.
Johnny
I'm aiming that - and it gets to CHI-town 6 hours or less later?
mudchicken I'm getting really confused on Saturday. Did they strap rocket packs on #6?
I'm getting really confused on Saturday. Did they strap rocket packs on #6?
Johnny, I might be able to meet and greet Saturday afternoon (not evening), but I'm even less sure about Pat. A lot, of course, depends on the weather--I'm putting off the lawn again today because of the heat (87 in Lombard now, before noon), and, of course, the timekeeping.Hegewisch Paul, would you be interested in coming down to the City to meet a distinguished, experienced train-rider and railfan, and some other guy who is much less of any of the above?
We are having morning temperatures in the sixties, and the highs are still in the dry eighties.
It seems that some deluded person is setting fires along I80 west of here.
Carl, I expect to arrive in the Windy City on #6 and leave on #448 Saturday. The return will be in on #447 and out on #5 Thursday, 9/20.
afternoon
Warm today.Ns was clear when I left work.An eastbound was stopped when I got to work.Had some nice green tractors on a flat car.Chores to do.
Yeah, that was pretty spectacular, Paul! Pat and I had taken a trip out to keep cool (we don't have central air here), and explored where they're going to eventually do the CREATE work on the 75th Street Corridor, and also to look for some cars I'd wanted to research (I didn't expect too much movement on the holiday, but these cars usually hold still for me anyway--at Barr Yard). We came home via I-57 and the Ryan, and had just made the turn west onto the Ike when we hit that wall. Short and sweet...nice car wash! When we got home, there was nothing at all in our rain gauge, but there was thunder all around us. Fifteen minutes or so later it started, and the next 45 or so minutes gave us an inch of rain. The skies are clear this morning!
I got in just as it dumped. I got a tad moist!
CSSHEGEWISCH...driving through a cloudburst part of the way home.
Watched that system go across southern MI on radar - and could see the lightning on the Deshler diamond cam. Quite spectacular!

Got out yesterday with my adult son and had a rather successful outing. Stopped at Michigan City and Elkhart and got some good shots. Also some interesting stuff on the return trip including FEC 107 at Colehour. Managed to miss the rain for the most part until after I dropped him off and wound up driving through a cloudburst part of the way home.
Looks like the triple H's will get us today, too.
Got up this morning an saw that the roads were wet, despite the sun coming up per normal. A quick check of the radar showed a tiny cell had drifted through and dropped just enough rain to register on the home weather station.
Good day yesterday on the railroad - lots of folks getting in a ride before the unofficial end of summer. I had my seat in the locomotive all reserved.
morning
Triple H day again according to the guessers.Csx had a hose problem over in Sherwood yesterday.Going to G+G's house for lunch today.Matt works tonight.Back to work for us tomorrow.
MC, please be more precise--we'll be in Michigan on the 15th and before, but home that evening, and done with church around noon on the 16th. I'll let BH's counterpart know once we establish dates.
MC, it's this coming Saturday.
JD/Johnnie: Unable to get downtown last night. Laboring on Labor Day again. Sorry 'bout that.
Carl: The AREMA tribe hits Chicago in two weeks. Heads-up, BossHen is coming along.
Loading-up on patience, Thomas hits CRRM next weekend. Hoping for cooler temps and no rain. (Although wouldn't mind storms Mon - Fri .... Mother nature has been hard on the Colorado farmers and ranchers this year.)
good morning
Just got home.We went to Leipsic where the old tower was demolished. We then went down to CSX's Indy line and didn't have much luck there.Came back to Leipsic and there were 3 NS trains waiting to cross Csx.The eastbound conductor had to go and reset a signal box for the diamond. Then Csx ran some trains as well.Went to Deshler afterwards.Mother nature was putting on a light show but the storms were up north.Going to go to bed.
Ns was clear when I left work.Matt's school is having a career day.Matt gets to host my company. He has plenty of questions for them.Going to enjoy the 3 day weekend.
My problems came out in the opposite way--I knew something was happening, but the doctors couldn't figure it out. Bacically, my heart was beating in the Red Zone from time to time. Then, one time I had an attack of this at work and went to the hospital. All of a sudden they knew what it was (they hadn't the previous several times). A shot of something brought it back to normal quickly, and later they did a cardiac ablation to cauterize the faulty nerve that was triggering it. There were a couple of times when they had gone in, ready to put a stent wherever they needed to, but my arteries were clear. After the ablation I was able to get rid of medications they were using to slow my heart rate, but by that time the damage was done--I couldn't bike the distances I used to.With Medicare I now get thorough annual physicals. That's how they found my cancer in 2016. I haven't felt any pain from the cancer itself--it's the medications that I often get the pain from.
Had a false alarm a little over ten years ago. Fortunately, the tests were negative but it was discovered that I had hypertension, which has been under control ever since I get a yearly check-up to renew the blood pressure prescription and when the doc wants to check something out, I tell him to go ahead. Not knowing about something doesn't mean it's not there.
blue streak 1 Was awake whole time to help surgeon and have to say the mechanics of the procedure were fascinating.
I had a diagnostic cath a few years ago after the doc didn't like the results of my nuclear stress test. I was awake, too, and since I understand EKG's it was fascinating to watch that in relation to what they were doing with the cath.
Afterwards, the doc said I was OK to run a marathon...
I write this with help from my contributers. Been needing a right knee replacement that was tenative planned next Jan or FEB, Knee suddelnly went bad in mid July. Went my heart doctor last week to get knee replacement clearance. His EKG showed very little difference from previous EKGs. Some how he had just a hunch. He decided to schedule a heart cath as a precautionary. We had some skepticism that it was needed.
Went in Wedensday afternoon for the cath procedure. An immediate concern at the pre op preparation EKG suggested cath was immediately needed like yesterday . Heart cath found a 90% blockage that was only 17% two months earlier. The 20 - 25 minute original schedule turned to a 2 hour stint. Was awake whole time to help surgeon and have to say the mechanics of the procedure were fascinating. Surgeon did the ballon angioplasty (sp?) then installed a stent. Speculation is that I would have had a massive MI ( heart attack ) within a month. Talk about close calls. If hadn't needed the early knee replacement now the obits would have been the order of the day within weeks ? Had to stay ovenight at hospital and now already home today. The Cath was done thru right wrist. Cannot apply more than 5 pounds any direction on right arm for a week. Guess will catch up here and backlog of paper work.
Moral------- Listen to your doctor's hunches. OH-----Knee replacement now has to be postponed for 6 months ! Going to be hobbling around here big time with cane, roollator, and crutches !. Also now taking an anti-congulant on a strict 12 hour interval ! At least can mow our 2-1/2 acres on the John Deere zero turn ! .
Ns sent an eastbound and the local was uptown as well. The rain fizzled out on us as well.Going to do some chores.
CShaveRRCan't help you with the reporting mark, Larry, but the "R" at the end of the number means that the car is restricted to on-line service (surprise, if it's not your line!) due to age or some structural anomaly (friction bearings would be a good one these days).
It was a couple of covered hoppers, as I recall. Wish I'd noted the initials. I was busy trying to get our train ready to go out.
But they were on CSX Q620 - right on the Chicago mainline in Utica.
