BOB WITHORNSo much for the clear blue sky. Now it's partly cloudy with solid clouds on there way. Gee, it only took 30 minutes.
1st day of summer. I'm wearing long sleeves and had to find a warm, waterproof jacket to wear this morning. I could've canoed to work in the cornfields. We had our mid 90's weather in late May and early June. I can only assume we'll see snow in July. Mother Nature seems a bit cranky.

Out here in the great wide open, you can see the weather coming from a really long ways off.
It's a wet one here...we've probably gotten two inches of rain this morning (glad I finished mowing the lawn last evening!). Not too furious--just a good soak for yards that may need it. And the cooler temperatures (around 70) are just what the doctor ordered for us after the past few weeks, in which we endured actual temps as high as 101.

Well the sun was out this morning.So was the Loram guys and the tie gang asd well.Csx used it's magic shoehorn to fit 3 trains into south Deshler.Q 353 went south with 8 units.Neck is a little red but the chores got done at the trainpark.Mother Nature is gently raining on us now.Randy hope you get home safe.

Understand they have been adding double stack traffic to the head end of Westbound merchandise train's at Cumberland - block swapping type action. With trains being backed up on the Keystone Sub, it was not available for 'head room' so Terminal Management ordered the Train Dispatcher and the Train Crew to use the Mountain Sub for head room. This activity has been taking place for some time and my sources said the Safety Complaints were registered by both T&E and Dispatchers that the activity was UNSAFE.

Friends daughter had a corn crib blow over in a storm.They dropped off some pieces of it.Some people use the wood pile to drop of junk.I was just cleaning up the wood pile.Was also able to give a couple visitors tours of the museum as well.The donation box got filled.

They need to do it pretty soon - the cars really bounce going over it, especially eastbound.

(I used to have a video of NS making convertables out of some new pick-ups in Kansas City under another old bridge, but I can't find that rascal anymore)
I surmise there's a CSX public projects engineer somewhere with a much larger headache now that the operating department blundered. (The locals wanted new bridges and to have CSX foot all of the bill. Sure - take it out of Blackstone Capital's slush fund.)

and from the second linked story[in part]: FTA:"...CUMBERLAND — CSX Transportation has turned down an offer by the city of Cumberland to rebuild the Washington Street bridge to its existing specifications, according to city officials.
A report on Cumberland's aging bridge infrastructure was given at Tuesday's regular meeting of the mayor and City Council... The city has four bridges in poor condition — Baltimore, Fayette, Cumberland and Washington streets. The bridges on Cumberland and Washington streets are currently closed.
"We haven't had any (progress) since we made the last proposal, which was for CSX to consider the city rebuilding the Washington Street (bridge) in or around the exact same location, and they rejected that notion," said Rhodes.
A main sticking point for CSX is the clearance, according to city officials. The Washington Street bridge has a clearance of 18 feet. CSX and federal guidelines call for bridge clearance to be 23 feet high.
"We have been unable to reach any scenario with what CSX want done in terms of clearances..."
Sounds like the situation is going to devfolve into one of those 'shotgun marriage' situations? Makes one wonder who will own the 'paternity' rights on those bridge rebuilds? Sounds like CSX owns some expensive decisions?

Rainy day today.Was still able to get out.Stacey bought a gift card from a chain restaurant.So for my birthday we ate in Indiana.Looked around on Ns and found some interesting trains.On the way home we stopped in Bryan.A fox came out from under the old depot and was catching supper before an oil can train went west.Tomorrow back to the corn city.As far as the diamond,it's CSX stay tuned.

Once or twice. The most recent example is we set off hte high car alarm with trash containers. But that detector is set for a low bridge that was removed. We still walked the train by, and it fit.
