tree68A country resident decided to burn a small pile of whatever, but didn't watch it. Spent three hours (with help from seven other fire departments) dealing with it. And there's even a ban on outdoor fires right now. They're friends of mine, but I kinda hope the Environmental Conservation Police write them up. Of course, the fields aren't dried out, and two brush trucks required a tow from a dozer to get out...

Must be hell fighting a brush fire and getting stuck in the mud in the field where it is happening!
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
BaltACDMust be hell fighting a brush fire and getting stuck in the mud in the field where it is happening!
Aside from being too far from the bulk of the action to help at all, I still had to keep an eye on the fire line in case it did swing my way and I had to defend my position. Bad enough I got stuck (it was a drainage swale - not easily determined until we were axle deep in it), I didn't want to burn up the truck, too...
Another brush truck got past me, only to get stuck in another part of the field. A third truck was a little lighter and made a couple of trips in.

Tree: Negatraction happens, at least you weren't alone. Hate it when that happens and mother nature thwarts your best intentions.
Michigan, at least the top of the Mitt, is here, albeit a little damp. The shortliners I'm up here with take it all in stride. Interesting, what I've seen of LSRC so far.
The run back to Denver will be a grind. Hope the company Exploder at 190K miles can hold together all the way back.
You're in an area of Michigan I've never been to--I've not seen the original D&M at all (today's LSRC).Safe and trouble-free travels. I wish we were home to repay your hospitality, but we'll be on the karate-chop side of the Mitten until next week. Land of No Trains...

190K - in the real world it is barely broken in. My Durango made 359K and never had any engine or trans issues. Faulty seat belt was it's demise for me.
If it were a Dodge, there probably wouldn't be the concern. 2nd radiator, 2nd tranny, 2nd water pump and an electrical system that is awful suspect on the Exploder. Hopefully it's on its way to Mexico soon and there's a replacement.
evening

Well, Mom passed yesterday afternoon. Pretty much everyone had a chance to say good bye, although for one sister it was by phone.
She was independent right up to the end - in fact, that was a factor in her passing. Had she waited for help for a few moments, she wouldn't have broken her hip. She was 91, and probably wouldn't have survived the surgery necessary to repair it.
She had thousands of pictures. I've been going through them and have found some real gems, and some with a certain amount of historical significance, at least on a local basis in different places. I'll have to ship them home seperately, as I don't have room in my luggage - didn't think of this when I packed.
Her body will be going to science, and when they are done, she'll be cremated and interred on my father's grave in Michigan.
Larry, I am sorry to hear of your loss. May you all find the true comfort as you sorrow over your mother's going.
Johnny
Larry: our condolences to you and to your family.
Jen/Ed
Indeed. My sincere condolences.
Mud and BossHen send along their condolences.
Our condolences and prayers for you and your Family.
Joe Stacey and Matt
Our condolences, Larry. We know what you're going through; even if they can repair a broken bone at that age it always seems to be the beginning of the end. Pat's mother's decline became much worse after she broke her leg last fall. We'll be thinking of you, too, as we hold services for her mother tomorrow.
Mother Nature sent us some downpours today.Ns had an eastbound coal train in the siding and another eastbound coming into town tonight.Chores to do.
Home!
The airline I used for the return trip has subscribed to "how many people can we cram into an aluminum tube, comfort be danged." Four hours with my knees jammed against the seat in front of me equals no sleep.
Then, at Newark, we first changed gates, got on the airplane, got back off the airplane (documentation issue), changed gates, got on another airplane and finally left.
But, I'm home.
I'm sorry to hear of your loss Larry. It's never easy to lose a loved one.
Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.
Eastbound frieght and westbound stack on Ns when we left work.Meeting tonight in Deshler.Going to find out about more bathroom inprovements.

Joe - PM me an address for donations for the park.
Good evening
Chores and errands are done for today.Ns had trains both ways and the local as well when I left work. While working in Defiance CSx sent trains both ways as well.Friend said CSX is working around "The Bend" at the bridge over the Maumee river.Probably cleaning up debris.Need to get cleaned up.Tomorrow is Friday.
I remember that cookout years ago--had to get some DERF in me to keep from blowing away!I had a great several hours watching trains in Elmhurst today with Colin ("NorthWest" on the Forum), from Washington State. I'm sure he found the first couple of hours impressive, but the onslaught lightened up for a while in mid-afternoon, only to get busy again after I left.
