Did you notice the OWLS diamonds at Durand?

How that place has descended to the depths!

In other news, happy birthday to Matt!

Nice line of storms came through  about three hours ago.  Small hail, high winds.  Right in the middle of it we got called out for a large tree down with wires involved.  Had to close the road for a bit.  As I was leaving the house for that call, my weather station was alarming for a rain rate of 4" per hour.  Fortunately, it didn't last that long - we only got 2/3" of rain from the storm...

Filed a report with NWS Buffalo.  Nice part of being a known spotter is that your reports get some credence that John Q might not.

The last 7 actual weekend have been rainy with chances of flash flooding.

We had a whole summer like that a few years ago.  The sun went down on Friday night, and came up on Monday morning.....

I got to run on Saturday, too.  Wasn't really my first choice of how to spend a nice Saturday, but it was a pretty easy job.

During the summer, my "weekends off" tend to be mid-week...

If your weekends have been mid-week around here you would have been in luck.  The last 7 actual weekend have been rainy with chances of flash flooding.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

This was sent me by a friend with whom I grew up.

lThis is truly amazing! Enjoy.

Wonderland in Hamburg, Germany

Remember the two brothers, in Germany, who had a wonderful model railway that was something to see? This is an update of their German Wonderland.

A short review, it was started by two brothers as a place to show their hobby began to grow by leaps & bounds. Soon they were joined by other 'Model Railroad Clubs' and other craftsmen. Some were electricians, model makers, carpenters, computer programmers. Their wives would stop by to see what they were doing and usually bring them a lunch.

One thing led to another. Three of the ladies had worked at a bakery, several visitors would ask if they had a snack bar. The idea was planted; some of the carpenters came and built a nice restaurant area for the bakery and a kitchen, too. If the fresh coffee smell didn't get you, then the bakery definitely would Over 400,000 man hours were spent making this dream come true.

This was about 5 years ago. One of the breweries came and furnished all the tables and chairs, serving counter etc. Their latest finished area is the airport. Planes look like they are flying and landing.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Joe - I think all your rain went well south of us.  MD was under flood watches.  We're supposed to get another day or two of decent weather.

The NYS Fire Chief's show is this coming weekend.  Time for a little training, some bargain hunting, and checking out that latest big, shiny trucks...

Ya sure that wasn't the speedometer?

Nope...if it had been, I would have been in a really hot time of it.  Even in Texas.

By the way, the Tower 55 area is amazing.  Trouble is, there's no one place to sit and watch everything.  We'll go back this morning on our way out.  Our hotel was within a mile of this landmark, most of which is now covered by a tangle of freeway interchange.

I wouldn't mind a splash of rain on my head and arms!  Here in San Antonio the temperature got up to 100 officially (McArthur says it was 104).  We hope to break out of this hot streak by heading north tomorrow.

I know you wish to know who McArthur is...he's the little digital readout of the temperature in our car (M'car thermometer).
