Everyone is always texting, even across a table from a warm body, but at least you would look like you aren't ignoring everyone!

Heck, you see groups of kids walking through the mall, texting each other instead of talking...

We were sitting in the park today - watching the waterfowl.  My mind wandered a little and I was thinking how animals/birds have evolved and adapted according to the conditions of change in the climate or the world.

Ergo - something to think about.  I wonder how long it will be before humans start growing a 2nd face on the top of their heads?

The election rhetoric indicates that in the US at least, we are alredy two faced.

Wasn't awake for sunrise, but did get up so I could serve as net control for a daily ham radio net.  About halfway through the net, my fire pager went off, and I had to leave the net participants to fend for themselves.  I'm sure they did fine.

The call was for a young lady who hit a deer.  Probably totalled the car.  A friend of hers got the deer.  It is that season...

The really curious part is that we get maybe 3 calls a week, and the net usually lasts about a half hour, and I'm only net control on Mondays, so the odds of a fire call hitting during the net really aren't all that high...

Murphy Siding

Beautiful sunrise on the way to work this morning.  'Seemed about an hour earlier than usual.

That event happened in the middle of an unwanted 22 hour shiftSad Saturday night into Sunday morning, the highlight being watching a UP foreman tell a BNSF switch crew they couldn't switch a joint facility until construction was complete (frustration followed by joy with the train crew)

Mudchicken Nothing is worth taking the risk of losing a life over. Come home tonight in the same condition that you left home this morning in. Safety begins with ME.... cinscocom-west

Regardless of what may or may not have been done right earlier in the day, Metra is still a class act! Check this out!

Just before 4:00 p.m.:

"In celebration of the World Series Champion Chicago Cubs festivities, our downtown stations are very crowded. Please consider spending some time enjoying the beautiful weather and all that Chicago has to offer. There are many great restaurants and sightseeing available to you. As crowding conditions improve, we will keep you updated. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

Then, at about 5:55:

"Earlier congestion at downtown stations is over. Commuters who chose to remain downtown to enjoy the beautiful weather sightseeing or dining at a restaurant until the stations were less crowded can now head to their stations. Trains may still incur residual delays. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

And finally, at about 8:00:

"Inbound and outbound trains are operating on a normal schedule but may be experiencing minor delays from the earlier Cubs parade and rally that took place in downtown Chicago. Metra appreciates your patience and understanding during today's events."

Metra was expecting to have well over 400,000 trips today. That would be a tiny percentage of the five million people they said made it to Grant Park and/or the parade route. So I hope to hear that they carried many more than that!

Carl, I am sorry to learn that you still have cancer. It would be wonderful if you did not have to have radiation treatment--I speak from the experience of having had it.

The Terminal Tower was (is?) very impressive on the inside, too.  I was up to Chessie System offices once, when they were there, visiting with the late Lloyd Lewis.  Very Art Deco--my wife loved it.  It's a shame to see the taller buildngs in town these days.

Visited the surgeon today, to see what the plans were, going forward.  The bad news is that the cancer is still there.  They started hormone treatment today, with a shot just below the "equator", as one of my friends put it.  However, in spite of my missing last week's session, my Physical Therapist says I'm doing very well, and she's of the opinion that I'm over halfway done.

Those shots, by the way, are supposed to come once every six months.  However, they could be supplanted by radiation as soon as other issues are taken care of.

It's all there, and it gave me a good 17 moves in the two-hours-plus that I was there (five per hour, roughly). I was kept plenty busy, just sitting in the car, with trains in front of me, trains behind me, and trucks giving me the willies as they took the road at at least twice the speed that I dared to!

Your line reminds me of the old joke: Lone Ranger says, "Look Tonto, Indians to the East, Indians to the West, Indians to the North and the South, what will we do"? And Tonto replies, "What you mean WE white man"? My thouht is in your case, With trains all around what will I do? Enjoy of course.

I wonder how many of the millions of viewers who saw Cleveland Terminal Tower on their TV screens had any idea how beautiful that former tallest building in the U.S. west of the Hudson River looked in the middle of the night from the window of a New York Central train.

I did not wait for the fat lady to do her thing because I knew it was over because it was over. It was worth going to bed an hour and a half late.

EDIT: Congrats Cubs!

Well, at least now we don't have to listen to them whine about not having won a World Series in forever....

Saw UP 1201 yesterday, a GP39-2 which was built with a raised cab for Kennecott Copper. The lowered cab and fuel tank are quite distinct.
