Dave (and other Bach Organ lovers): I cannot help with the above, but here are two online collections of Bach organ works from the last few years. The first link is to a series at Stanford on the Fisk-Nanney organ there, performed by R.Huw Morgan.
https://library.stanford.edu/music/notable-collections-acquisitions/organ-works-johann-sebastian-bach
The second is a free site with UM's James Kibbie playing most of the works on various organs in Germany.

Dave: There are two approaches I can recommend.
Probably the 'best' of the free players is VLC, which you can download through www.videolan.org. (Be aware that there are many scams to get you to download through spamware-laden sites or addresses - be careful and read the browser address bar carefully!)
The other 'recommended' approach -- I say this because you're an engineer -- is to use foobar2000 (www.foobar2000.org) with the SACD plugin (www.sourceforge.org/projects/sacddecoder) and perhaps the WinTense UI plugin (for example www.wintense.com/fos_w7shell). A new 'final' release (1.3.4) has just been confirmed. This program uses a highly modular architecture and there is a reasonably large development community of properly-minded people...

Never too old to have a happy childhood!
True, these composers are all dead; but I don't think their deaths had anything to do with a train.

and yes in common parlance, but not among railroaders, one can hear 'the engine and five coaches' with coaches including sleepers a diner and baggage car as well
but not among railroaders who would say engine and one baggage car, two coaches, diner, and sleeper.
found another buxtehude recording in my collection, but not the one i am seeking ----- but on a Schnitger organ
Funny how you can take a perfectly good cat-fight and turn it into a boring bro-mance!

Music is often discussed on one of those "permanent" threads, just not baroque or classical. Tune out if you don't like it.

Getting away from ... contention ... for a moment: here is some of the Klaas Bolt Buxtehude with playable samples.
Further discussion on the (amended) original topic is, of course, welcome. (Actual discussion of the topic, that is; not just meta-discussion of topics about topics and the like... ;-})
OK, how did we drift from the subject of music to the subject of threads drifting off-topic?

Like other things, sometimes stuff just evolves. Murray can have his thread by his design; this one just happened by the desires of several participants. Perhaps the title should be amended. But I notice you folks aren't posting on the original topic, just a complaint about the shift.
BuxtehudeToo bad, people. Get a life. Amtrak should have sounded their horn at least a half mile before a bridge, just like freight trains do before they enter a tunnel, especially when in this section of track, which is closely followed by Hwy 101. They know where the bridges are. Is pushing the horn button a couple of times so tiring to the engineer's hand? Stupid people cross the tracks all the time here, but is Amtrak ignorant of this? I doubt it. I am putting the blame where it lies. And if a freight train had killed those clueless people, I would be blaming UP. It's called being corporately proactive! My point is that no train should have arrived unexpectedly, passenger or freight. Especially here.
Rules exist about sounding a horn before a tunnel. Not so much on bridges. But there are rules about excessively blowing the horn, too.
Don't blame the crew for following their rulebook.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any

It's true that I have nothing to add about the tragedy in California. But when I see that something new has been posted on a thread that purports to discuss a fatal accident that interests me, I go to that thread to get updated information on that subject. Silly me. Who am I to suggest that you are wasting my time and effort when you pursue a discussion of music here?
So Murray started a thread to discuss off-topic subjects, and named it so that we would think it was about the California accident? Why has it taken me so long to see the perfect logic of that?
Guess what! MURRAY DIDN'T START IT.
Get your own thread.
ACYGet your own thread.
The thread is not yours, nor was it started by you. In fact it was started by one of the baroque organ enthusiasts, Buxtehude. Perhaps he can rename it. And then you can complain about that.

Thank You Tom, You saved me a lot of typing, my sentiments EXACTLY. I was interested in the ORIGINAL POST, not the inappropriatness of the title, and CERTAINLY NOT the off topic musical discussion. An occasional short OT comment is one thing, but these LOOOONG WINDED OT replies are another.
While we are OT, why don't we discuss Religon, Politics, Abortion and GUN (Owners) RIGHTS?

Interestingly, it looks like that trestle has a walkway with handrail on at least one side, if not both sides. If so, I wonder how this played out. I suppose all manner of panic and movement is likely. But it appears as though people could have just stood aside on the trestle and let the train through.
ACYGuess what! MURRAY DIDN'T START IT.
Oh, for God's sake, he was referring to Murray's 'Seinfeld of Threads' for Eleanor Roosevelt and similar postings, not this one.
If you want to get back to on-topic postings, just make them (and I for one would encourage them). Ditto if you want to steer the thread back 'on course'. Buxtehude is the one to complain if he doesn't want his thread 'drifted' and, last I noticed, he wasn't complaining. He just made several on-topic postings and now the thread ... at least the part of the thread dealing with the topic, rather than the complaining ... is back in conformance with the titular discussion.
Let's let this be the last of the complaints about this one.
OK, SUPPOSE ONE OF THOSE UNFORTUNATE BRIDGE WALKERS WAS LISTENING TO MUSIC VIA CELLPHONE AND EARPHONES UNTIL TOO LATE. COULD EVEN HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO BUXTEHUDE ORGAN MUSIC.
AND APOLOGIES TO THOSE ANNOYED, PARTICULARLY ACY. LIKE YOU TOO MUCH TO ATTEMPT SUCH A DIGRESSION AGAIN.

Well if we are staying OFF TOPIC, I may as well stray here too.
While I feel it is aSAD situation when a woman feels that abortion is her BEST option, I think that it should be LEGAL and the Woman's CHOICE, NOT something that people unaffected by the choice should even be allowed to vote on.
It is not for ME to decide what is MORALLY right or wrong for someone else, such should be a decision each individual makes for themselves, and NOT have anybody else's MORALS forced upon them.
I personally would HOPE that a woman would find another solution, but feel that it is HER RIGHT, NOT MINE or anyone else's to decide what is best for HER in the situation she finds herself in.
As far as Gun Control, for some reason some people can't understand that CRIMINALS, by definition are those that IGNORE LAWS.
As a CHL (Concealed Handgun License) holder, I choose to avoid shopping at any business that posts restrictions on those who choose to protect themselves. Is a Jeweler like Jared's, really silly enough to think that a sign on the door, really going to stop someone that has decided to rob them? Gee, I was going to commit Armed Robbery, but the sign on the door says "Guns prohibited on the premises" well, I don't want to risk a Criminal Trespass with a firearm charge, so I better not rob them, REALLY?
A Gun is NOT Evil, and does not do Evil things. A Gun is a TOOL, no more and no less than a Hammer. Some people do choose to mis-use both (Hell's Angels, members were known to carry Ball-Peen Hammers, because they were not legally considered a "Weapon" but were capable of causing grievous injuries.
Don't even try to tell ME, that the POLICE are there to protect us, they are there to prosecute crimes AFTER the fact, and weren't even able to do that after a man walked into a gas station I worked at when I was 19 and shoved a Gun in my FACE.
Just last week a Friend of my Wife had a man walk up to him in a grocery store parking lot in a "BETTER PART of TOWN" in Broad Daylight, and ask him what he would do if He demanded his wallet, Fortunately her Friend was an armed CHL holder, and the would be robber left, and again the police were unable to find him. Trust the police to protect you if you like, I am my own first line of defense, and the police are just an unreliable back up. I will defend myself, Wife, Family and Friends. I don't go looking for trouble, but if it finds me, I will protect myself and Loved Ones to the best of my ability.
You can decide for yourself, how much responsibilty, you want to accept for your own Safety and Protection, that is your right. Myself, my Wife and several other Family members and Friends have decided to accept the responsibility of our own Safety and Protection.
If we would like to return to the topicof this thread that is Fine by me, if we want to remain OT, I will for now let someone else begin the discussions on Religon and Politics. Heck let's even throw in the TABOO subjec of GRAFITTI, that is usually a QUICK thread LOCKER.

To be embellished with the muscial stylings of Michael Jackson and ZZ Top!
Balt, I actually preffer Styx, Night Ranger and Blue Oyster Cult, but have listened to Michael and ZZ, on occasion
So the juvenile whiners just could not stand the idea that some folks might want to discuss something as harmless as classical music. Jeez what a bunch!! Get the thread locked or whatever you want. Over the past few months, fewer and fewer people post on this forum everyday, perhaps because of the nonsensical level of intolerance.
