Dispatcher indicated 21M is currently recrewing ahead of 29.

Amtrak 29 has only an hour left to work.  Oh crap.  Now what?  These are Amtrak crews....correct?

There is a plan for the Capitol to follow 21M, but no route request, yet.

Good news...Amtrak 29 received limits at 479 at 225pm.  I see you are on the move now.

21M lined up as Don said.

There is an 18A on track 2 - should be through Porter shortly.  Looks like the dispatcher could run the intermodal and two Amtraks 1 to 2 and around the oil trains.  Nothing EB in the works.  We'll see....

Been watching the Chesterton webcam. Westbounds are crawling through there.

The Calumet River Bridge is not the only movable span on this line.  There is a movable bridge over the Indiana Harbor Ship Canal in East Chicago and Amtrak's South Branch Bridge would be a factor for Amtrak trains and through trains to the BNSF.

Only one span is still in service at Calumet River.  Since this is only a double track main, the expense of restoring additional spans to service would be unnecessary unless additional main tracks are added to this line.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Update... "single tracking from CP491 to 501 (Miller siding) to Buffington (East Chicago) and a broken bridge ahead (must be the lift bridge at Calumet River MP509.

Amtraks 371 and 365 are affected.

The Calumet river bridge brings up an important question.   When the track went to 2 MT from 4 tracks  one of the 2 track lifts was parked in the up position.  Anyone know how much effort will be required to return this bridge to service.  Any failure of the current in use bridge  IMHO can be a melt down waiting to happen ?  Of course new interlocking work would be required to enable the second span to be used ?

As posters know the US old bridge problems are a real concern.

Amtrak map shows you are moving!  That is quite a map.

It indicates at 1241pm you are just east of Laporte.

Intermodal train at CP462 doesn't have route across the diamonds there, yet.

He's going across now.  The Capitol is next, then the LSL.

The Capitol is across, LSL is next.

31Q has the railroad at Porter, but isn't moving yet.  Two oil cans and an intermodal right behind him

Complimentary refreshments?

Dispatcher just told CP244 (eastbound) there are track circuit problems at CP479.  This is the new crossover being installed just east of Chesterton in order to facilitate movements around Porter.

So, you might be stopped suddenly around Chesterton.

Wow...9 westbounds between Porter (482) and LaPorte (462).

Jay, you are still around 455 per the Amtrak map.  I dont know whether to run up to Porter, or stay here and listen in.

Are you moving yet?

I just heard 25Z is ok to proceed to 482 (Porter) and they have a recrew.

Ed

Behind them is a merchadise train, two empty oil cans, a premiium intermodal, two Amtraks, a merchandise, and another premium intermodal.  25Z is through Porter, now.
