Murphy - just use a peel off stamp and a grabber.  Stick anywhere - maybe on the forehead?

Johnny - The kitty litter.

Murphy - he is such a joker - he laughs really easily, and sometimes uncontrollably...   so.....

Are you sure it was not a woods kitty? I understand that they are responsible for the burying of a lot of clothes. It's been a long time since I have seen one, but I smelled at least one on my last trip.

Suddenly I'm starting to see a lot of black squirrels aound, all over town.  Today I saw a real odd one.  It was in a semi-rural type, older neighborhood, where mowing the expansive lawn doesn't always get the neccesary priority, so it was walking near the road in some taller grass.    The squirrel was black, with a real fluffy tail, and had a white stripe down it's back.  Must be one of those french squirrels working it's way up from Nebraska.  I didn't stop to ponder the issue.

Sir Chicken - we are in the process of drowning Kansas.  Looks like it won't be coming up this way!  Our power shield seems to be down as usual.

Melanistic fox squirrel:  Halloween is coming!  So why not!

Black, white, brown, gray - the ones around here are all fox squirrels.  Some have very odd pigmented fur.  Word is that the blacks are a tad more aggressive, but this could be because people will feed an "oddity" more than a regular-looking squirrel.  Ergo, competition for food has drawn the battle lines.

Here in the big city, the black squirrels lived on the north side of town for years.  Then they moved to the central and now they are coming into the south end, which seems to say that they may have migrated from the states up north.  Heading to Kansas!

Fox squirrel?  You mean there's different kinds of squirrels other than their coloring?  The only types of squirrels I'm aware of are regular tree squirrels, flying squirrels, and Rocket J. Squirrel

We also have the kind of squirrels that drive their cars on I-75. They are the worst kind. Automobile

Marysville, KS proudly claims itself as a black squirrel town. http://www.marysvillekansaschamber.org/squirrel.html

Red squirrels here in the Denver area have a gray winter coat and a brown summer coat with a red chest. (brindle?)  Chipmunks are a rarety here for some reason. And then there are the darned prairie dogs which are pests more than chipmunks or squirrels. (the CoDOW suck-truck comes around once a year to relocate at least some of them, especially around the local highway shoulders where they set up shop)

Where I grew up on the North side of Cincinnati, albino squirrels made a regular appearance. Seemed not to have a survival problem that much. (they tended to be noisier than their gray peers)

Used to see lots of black squirrels when I lived in Milford (SE Michigan).  I've started to notice some here in northern New York lately.

There are predominantly Fox Squirrels in southeast Michigan, but in the rural areas Black Squirrels are beginning to populate the area. Still somewhat rare but occasionally seen. The Fox Squirrels must be getting smarter. I haven't run over one in a couple of years. Wink

Any squirrelologists out there?  Our part of the world typically has brownish-red squirrels.  Down along the Missouri River in S.D. there are towns that full of red squirrels.  Council Bluffs Iowa, (I think) is where all the squirrels seem to be gray.  This summer we've started to see black squirrels in our neighborhood.  These are jet black and pretty furry.  Would different colors of squirrels be different breeds, or simply color mutations?

Horrible for the head end crew. I don't think the truck was stuck on the crown. I think the truck simply got snagged trying to turn. This is much more of a specialty truck for overweight cargoes. And much more prone to getting snagged if jot loaded correctly. I am trying to dredge up what I remember about that place. Been thru there a few times. Looking at the video not sure what to say. UP should sue for damages. So should the crew. There is no excuse for a truck, even a lowboy, to get stuck on a crossing. The driver can see and avoid a high crown.

Video of the crash.  (ignore the title date... they messed it up).

I think Modelcar may have wanted to post this in the Trains forum; but just so you'll see it, I'll link it here:

For some reason the picture buttons have decided to appear on this post, they don't usually...

Also, the new software dislikes active links to other posts, despite using the [url] tags.

Being a state road, there will be questions asked. UNLESS the lowboy was defective, somebody responsible for the road's maintenance and design will be squirming in the hot seat .

MC we have a similar situation in my town.  They are ignoring the problem which was pointed out.  Any suggestions ?
The first article stated evacuation due possibility of Argon explosion.  Since when ?  Maybe didn't have a haz mat book ?

Tree - aren't you glad you don't have to walk the dog?

Might not be able to duck that one, either.  Seems our weekend gift shop clerk may bring her dog in, in costume, for our Pumpkin Trains...

Stupid Zone Revisited: Trucker gets lowboy stuck on crossing in LA, Train crew in hospital because of stupid behavior of road agency and trucker. Close the crossing until the approach grades are fixed.

It appears a truck stop located on the opposite side of the tracks from US165 was where the trucker was headed to/from , connected by a state highway (LA-2), a main drag in Mer Rouge. Being a state road, there will be questions asked. UNLESS the lowboy was defective, somebody responsible for the road's maintenance and design will be squirming in the hot seat .

Busy day!

Same here.  Just over 200 people between two trains, and I was the only crew member on the train (not counting the engineer).  Kept me hopping!

Weather around 65-70 during the day with no rain.  No problem there!

You can send that warm stuff here - I'm not sure it got above +45F all day today, after a sub-freezing start.  At least I didn't have to work in the rain - it never got worse than cloudy all day, and the sun did peek out from time to time.

Now I'm home, and it's raining, but now I don't care...

Busy day!  Saw 16 engines.  99% were on a train of some kind.  2 were NS that went around the wye, all by themselves.  In a BNSF yard, and since I like NS, I was pleased with that!  And a very mellow sounding CP in Dark Husker Red.

We were trackside about 2 hours.

Then went to our favorite city park.  You know - the dam on the east edge of the city, 112 acres that holds back major rainwater.  They closed it for a few days after last Tuesday's 8-10 inches of rain.  Today, the ducks & geese had to get off the picnic tables, the squirrels took off the scuba gear and they were launching one Hobie paddle boat from the parking lot.  1/2 of the dock was still under water.  Tuesday they stock about 3K trout.  Perfect!

Definitely frost on the pumpkin here in Old Forge this morning!  Reported temp of +32F, and the truck said it was +31F...

Gonna be a busy day today on the railroad.  Yesterday the weather was beyond miserable.  Today is going to be sunny, if cool (40s).
