I think Modelcar may have wanted to post this in the Trains forum; but just so you'll see it, I'll link it here:

For some reason the picture buttons have decided to appear on this post, they don't usually...
Also, the new software dislikes active links to other posts, despite using the [url] tags.
UP should sue for damages. So should the crew. There is no excuse for a truck, even a lowboy, to get stuck on a crossing. The driver can see and avoid a high crown.

Video of the crash. (ignore the title date... they messed it up).

It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.

Any squirrelologists out there? Our part of the world typically has brownish-red squirrels. Down along the Missouri River in S.D. there are towns that full of red squirrels. Council Bluffs Iowa, (I think) is where all the squirrels seem to be gray. This summer we've started to see black squirrels in our neighborhood. These are jet black and pretty furry. Would different colors of squirrels be different breeds, or simply color mutations?
Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.
There are predominantly Fox Squirrels in southeast Michigan, but in the rural areas Black Squirrels are beginning to populate the area. Still somewhat rare but occasionally seen. The Fox Squirrels must be getting smarter. I haven't run over one in a couple of years.

Used to see lots of black squirrels when I lived in Milford (SE Michigan). I've started to notice some here in northern New York lately.

Fox squirrel? You mean there's different kinds of squirrels other than their coloring? The only types of squirrels I'm aware of are regular tree squirrels, flying squirrels, and Rocket J. Squirrel
Marysville, KS proudly claims itself as a black squirrel town. http://www.marysvillekansaschamber.org/squirrel.html
Red squirrels here in the Denver area have a gray winter coat and a brown summer coat with a red chest. (brindle?) Chipmunks are a rarety here for some reason. And then there are the darned prairie dogs which are pests more than chipmunks or squirrels. (the CoDOW suck-truck comes around once a year to relocate at least some of them, especially around the local highway shoulders where they set up shop)
Where I grew up on the North side of Cincinnati, albino squirrels made a regular appearance. Seemed not to have a survival problem that much. (they tended to be noisier than their gray peers)

We also have the kind of squirrels that drive their cars on I-75. They are the worst kind.
they are dodging the orange barrels that are always on I-75.Ns has a coal train in the siding.they left the cars and took the power to do other things.Didn't see anything uptown.Time for chores. If ma nature keeps up this rain I'll need my pontoons back on my mower.
stay safe

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Melanistic fox squirrel: Halloween is coming! So why not!
Black, white, brown, gray - the ones around here are all fox squirrels. Some have very odd pigmented fur. Word is that the blacks are a tad more aggressive, but this could be because people will feed an "oddity" more than a regular-looking squirrel. Ergo, competition for food has drawn the battle lines.
Here in the big city, the black squirrels lived on the north side of town for years. Then they moved to the central and now they are coming into the south end, which seems to say that they may have migrated from the states up north. Heading to Kansas!

Mooks, Git yer schnorkel and periscope, plus dem Gucci feline frog flippers, ready. Wow! Simon's leftovers heading through Denver.
Sir Chicken - we are in the process of drowning Kansas. Looks like it won't be coming up this way! Our power shield seems to be down as usual.
Suddenly I'm starting to see a lot of black squirrels aound, all over town. Today I saw a real odd one. It was in a semi-rural type, older neighborhood, where mowing the expansive lawn doesn't always get the neccesary priority, so it was walking near the road in some taller grass. The squirrel was black, with a real fluffy tail, and had a white stripe down it's back. Must be one of those french squirrels working it's way up from Nebraska. I didn't stop to ponder the issue.
Are you sure it was not a woods kitty? I understand that they are responsible for the burying of a lot of clothes. It's been a long time since I have seen one, but I smelled at least one on my last trip.

PEPE! That's where he went. Please send him home - pre-paid postage, if you will! We have missed most of him!
How do you propose I get the stamp on him?

Murphy - just use a peel off stamp and a grabber. Stick anywhere - maybe on the forehead?
Johnny - The kitty litter.
Murphy - he is such a joker - he laughs really easily, and sometimes uncontrollably... so.....

Why is it?? I have a paid holiday on Monday (Columbus Day) and it's supposed to rain all day
Today is our holiday. Cool, but dry. We will stay home so Pat can celebrate at her sewing machine. I will celebrate being married to an older woman while I can. Of course, we'll dine out today, at both of our favorite venues by the tracks.Hey! Look what I got back! Much appreciated.

Seems that railroads aren't immune from bad truck drivers:
http://www.bellinghamherald.com/2014/10/09/3904012_semi-crash-on-valley-highway-takes.html?sp=/99/100/&rh=1
Note that due to the proposed Gateway Pacific coal terminal, "BNSF" is a "four letter word" around here, and anything involving the railroad is reported... getting sick of constant "oil train bomb" and "more trains=ruin of county" articles. Also, oil trains are used in local election attack ads, regardless of the inability of state government officials to do much of anything. Needless to say, toxic by inhalation gasses aren't even on the radar screen.
afternoon
ns had a westbound coal train in the siding. No cars to pick up uptown.Friend wants to come over and test his locomotives.Tomorrow is wedding day.I get to dress up in a tux and dance out the door after the ceremony.Going to be fun.
Carl - best wishes!
I survived the wedding train last night, mostly because I was sitting in the cab, running the locomotive. We did get in kinda late, which made for a really late bedtime for moi.
Today, we made salads. Tomorrow, we barbeque 450 halves of chicken and hope our area residents are hungry!
The cash register decided to give up the ghost, so I'm trying to get a new one learned and programmed for use tomorrow as well. They're wonderfully high tech, but still a pain to learn.
Back to the book.
I miss the old-fashioned mechanical cash registers......
Another successful 2.5 hours trackside.
21 locomotives - 2 of them CSX. Moving a lot of them around since DE came in with 6 on the headend, headed west. And a lot of grain moving back and forth. I heard they are just about done with harvesting in some areas, so this didn't surprise me.
Went to look at the bison/geese/ducks at a local park. Couldn't find the Elk but did see a red-tailed hawk sitting on a fence post right in front of Millie's nose. He didn't seem too concerned about us. And while I was watching an eastern bluebird on a fence with binoculars, he was watching me thru the other end. No, Murphy - I had the binoculars, not him!
Score one for Mookie!
