A little surprised that the BNSF crew accepted that last load of building supplies (?) they just pulled. The plastic sheeting covering the load was blowing in the wind at switching speeds and is sure to cause problems "down the line". Isn't somebody supposed to catch that?

Plastic sheet load coverings are a PIA. They are easily ripped or torn and flap in the passing breeze. They aren't substansial enough to to any real damage should they hit something. About the only 'corrective' actions a train crew can perform are to try to secure it to the load in some manner or remove it to the best of their abilities and reach. If there are High and/or Wide detectors on the route ot the train it will most likely activate those detectors.

I thought I recalled from my very early (initial) training that crews picking up a car were to ensure that it was properly braced, covered, doors closed, sealed, etc. I imagine the intent of this covering was to keep whatever was in the paper wrapped-packages dry. Should have specified a box car, guys, or properly secured the plastic.

Most of what I see wrapped in plastic sheeting is building materials - sheet rock, wallboard, lumber etc. Generally it is loaded on centerbeam cars. The benefit to the customer is that the cars can be easily loaded and unloaded by fork lifts - a box car would be much more difficult for the fork lift to attack.
Crews inspect cars for their mechanical and load shifting safety. The shippers covering or not of their product and it's integrety is on the shipper.
just caught a number of 'Hanjin' shipping cans on the last couple of cars just now. If you haven't heard, Hanjin shipping company (of South Korea) went bankrupt two weeks ago, leaving ships and containers with product without possibility of payment, of being delivered, or pick up.
Two ships of Hanjin were anchored off the southern california coast for two weeks, were permitted to dock at Long Beach a couple of days ago, I was wondering if these containers from them were on the train I just saw.

Thanks a lot for posting these. I, for one, had no idea the BNSF signal was that close. I wish there were some way to show signal aspects in all four directions on the webcam feed. Maybe they could be superimposed in small windows in the corners?
Again - lots of us would contribute to the City of Rochelle or Trains to expand the camera view and display the signals. I know camera and bandwidth cost money - but the Rochelle camera is something special - and appreciated.

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that the Rochelle camera's angle had shifted slightly, showing the bottom red light on the westbound signal bridge. It's since been readjusted so the signal no longer shows. It would be interesting if the camera were to be slightly readjusted so a view of the signal would show. Is it possible to have that done, or would that be a no no?
I doubt that it is so much a "readjustment" as a "cleaning the spiderwebs off shifted the camera". The next cleaning just might "adjust" it back (or not).

condiMaybe you can look at how long we get to watch and hear the sounds of the crossing. M time out is less than 2 min.. In ties past it was much longer but what can you see and hear in leee that 2 min.. Condi
My system also times out but it varies from 2 minutes to maybe an hour or so.
Sometimes I get the "Play" icon in the middle of the screen so I know it has timed out and I need to click that icon to get it to continue streaming the video, but other times is just freezes the stream and it is hard to tell if it is playing or not.
If there is no wind to make the trees move (and I have to know whether it is windy or not) and there are no people or trains frozen in motion, I cannot tell if it is running or not. I often just have to refresh the browser window to see if it was stopped or not... too many times it then suddenly shows that things have changed drasticly and so I know it was frozen/stopped.

You might be disappointed. It could be empty racks being repositioned. UP runs a few reposition trains every now and then.
There will be one in the next day or two. One is tied down in Nebraska waiting for the Cedar River to go down at Cedar Rapids. UP shut down this morning anticipating the river cresting at, or just over the rail on the bridge today. So if UP traffic seems off, that is why.

Thanks, Jeff! That makes sense with my field observations this afternoon. Things were pretty dead over two-plus hours: three westbound intermodals, nothing coming east. Have they got a train on the bridge to hold it in place?

Don't know what the UP is running. My carrier is operating auto rack trains upto 14K feet in length.
