Rather than completely removing it - try just changing it to something simple ("Dave"?). Not trying to be smart. As you note - the system won't seem to let you delete what's there, but an edit might "take."

MKT DaveI thought of that just as I pressed submit... thanks anyway.

So, based on a couple of observations -
If a UP I/M train is on the far track (track 1, I'm assuming), in either direction, odds are it bypassed Global 3?
There is a crossover at the west end of Global 3, but I can't imagine UP backing an entire train out of the yard and over the crossover if they can just go east on track 2 and cross over further down the line.
Likewise, I can't see them backing a train into Global 3 from the west end...

Thats my observation, too. The east switch to G3 (CPY076) connects only to track 2;
track 1 is not even part of the CP. One time on the scanner feed I did hear an eastbound being backed out the west end of G3 an then proceded east on track 1 since CPY076 was out of service, but this has been rare.
Speaking of the scanner feed it appears the owner is rebuilding his computer and is using a backup box. Unfortunately it is only providing the CP/CN feed that normally comes out of the left channel, thus rendering it useless for for monitoring the diamond traffic normally heard on the right channel
so that is why i don't hear no up or bn traffic
rdettmer so that is why i don't hear no up or bn traffic
The feed is back up
This morning the BNSF track inspector rolled over the diamonds and stopped just past the diamonds. He got out and spent several minutes making several measurements on the UP 2 - BNSF 2 (The south tracks of each railroad), then took off. I left to run some errands and when I came back I see the UP welders busy at work on this diamond.
Welders are putting in OT currently on UP #1/BNSF #2...

EB covered hoppers @ ~1155 on UP #1 doing a rather awkward bob and weave at maybe 20 mph. Looks like the crossing with BNSF #1 but could be #2.
Later: Pretty sure it's the UP #1 / BNSF #1 diamond. Just watched another EB on UP #1 and cars seemed to stumble just as their lead truck hits that diamond; then again when the trailing truck arrives. It's not too bad now but, IMHO, likely to get worse in a day or two.
Later still: WB BNSF stack train on BNSF #1 confirms it --- particularly noticeable with double stacks. Again, not too bad now but, IMHO, likely to get worse in a day or two.

I noticed that the old C&NW signal bridges are gone and the new ones are in place. Anyone know when they were removed??

I was going to say earlier than that but you're probably right. (I've noticed that being retired seems to make it very easy to lose track of the days of the week.) Whenever it was, the disassembly didn't take long.

I watched the closer one being removed... here is my post...

east side verticle truss was just removed.... abouts 10-15 minutes, and it was gone.

Eastbound early morning August 2; Westbound early morning August 3
To be exact Eastbound early morning August 2, Westbound early morning August 3
OS UP EB on #1 at 1020CDT. Covered hoppers bobbing and weaving as they cross BNSF #1 particularly noticeable. As predicted, it's getting worse.
Next day: UP posted a red board and there's a welder (?) looking at UP #1 / BNSF #1 this morning (1050).
A meet at Rochelle a little before 5pm on Monday.

I saw that westound train live in Lombard in the early afternoon. Nice repaint job on the third unit! (Are we losing some of the SP and "Patch" units, finally?)

[/In both cases, UP and BNSF, is one of the two tracks in better condition than the other?
Thanks. I might have watched that if I knew they were being removed.

Both the old SP units and some of the early GE AC's are now being shopped and repainted and now have the flag on the side.

It was funny, I no sooner read your question and when I looked at the cam there was a BNSF Hi-Rail pickup parked just past the diamonds. I betcha that guy was checking on that very question.
Seriously though, I am pretty sure both lines on both RR's are maintained to the same level. I would point out though that both RR's have done major track repairs; ballast, ties, and rail, on each line during different years. So, technically the trackwork on one line might be a few years older than the other.

That said (and I agree with every word), both UP tracks are considered mains but BNSF #2 (the southern track, furthest from the camera) is actually a very long passing siding.
Still, it's very difficult if not impossible to keep two parallel tracks at exactly the same maintenance level.
Lots of rockin' and rollin' as a WB UP stack train on #1 crossed BNSF #2 at ~1610 at or near track speed. Strangely enough, it was most noticeable with single container loads and less so with double stacked or trailers.
I noticed a similar thing. It seemed like boxcars, reefers and covered hoppers rocked the most, while lower cars like gondolas and flatcars didn't, and neither did taller ones like double-stacks and center-beam flats with high loads. Resonance?

The vertical center of gravity of well cars are much lower that on a normal freight car. Straight-deck wheeled trailers on a piggyback flat are even worse - the wheelset just jacks everything up a good four feet above the rail surface, and magnifies the sway signficantly.
Not sure, but are there restrictions on loading heavier containers over lighter ones?
I watched an eastbound mixed frieght roll through. There was a single, empty autorack with open doors on both ends of the car. I can't say I have ever seen an autorack in transit with any doors open.
