Just saw a crane on a flat car, a flat car and a caboose, east bound on #1 U.P track... note I didn't say I saw an engine! Just a flat car carrying the crane and a flat car and a caboose.
I could hear some sort of motor running as it went off camera to the right. Is the engine on the crane running a generator to power some wheel set on one of the flat cars?

That white atmospheric excrement is why I'm a SWPA refugee living in TX. The whitest things I see outdoors here are the blossoms on Burford Pear trees all over town now.

Looks like the repair was caught on camera. Looks a little different today.
Exactly. Paper Rock Scissors to see who goes first.
Knife it, wait the time and go.
Next guy does the same.
10000 feet and no dynamics? Today is going to be a good day ...
xjqcfInteresting standoff going on at the diamonds now. A westbound UP headed for Global 3 was stopped but the signal wouldn't clear, and got permission to go past after working the release on the control hut. In the meantime a UP signal maintainer on the scene investigating a problem with the highway crossing protection failures adjacent to the crossing discovered a broken rail with a large gap that was now under the train. Following the instructions on the hut did not result in a clear signal. Meanwhile an eastbound BNSF had had a signal, but it was knocked down by the UP conductor's action. The BNSF's conductor then walked to the box where the UP conductor met him. As of this writting, neither conductor has been able to get a release, so it's a standoff. Since no one operator/dispatcher has full contol of the automatic interlocking it's a deadlock. UPDATE: I just heard the BNSF dispatcher ask his conductor who the third person was; apparently a it's a manager. I conclude from this and several recent past reports from the BNSF dispatcher that they have access to a camera here, probably our EarthCam. The UP is finally on the move. THE track around the break has been put out of service. Now the BNSF is trying to clear the box, with no success, and has to wait 8 minutes to flag through.... Finally BNSF got the signal and finally proceeded east.

I don't know the specifics of the opertion of the Rochelle crossing.
At MOST automatic signalled railroad crossings at grade - When you can't get a signal across the the crossing - you go to the bungalow and operate the timer, that will drop any signals line for the crossing route. You wait for the timer you activated to expire, then you FLAG your train across the crossing. You WILL NOT recieve any kind of a proceed signal.
In operating the timer, IF a crossing route train is past the last intermediate before the crossing they will run through at STOP signal that was activated by you operating the timer. They will then be governed by whatever rules apply on their road that cover such situations. IF the crossing route train gets an APPROACH indication on the intermediate they are to approach the Absolute Signal at the crossing prepared to comply with the STOP indication it displays.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!

A little windy, we had constant well almost constant 60 MPH wind that day!
They are still there ... so no tornados!!
rdamonA little breezy today. It would be neat if there was a personal weather station there at the park.
Weather rocks aren't working?
The wind must be affecting operations. I have had the camera up since 1145 CST and there has only been one train pass by. A EB UP train behind one of the original C&NW units from, I presume, Global III.

So shovel the coal, let this rattler roll.

I just saw a EB UP mixed consist train with so many different types of tank cars it could have doubled as a display train for a car builder. There was even one that almost looked like it could get work in Hollywood as a alien space ship if business were to slow down!
Visited Rochelle this morning and, among the few trains that rolled through (traffic was quite light today), was this westbound stack heading into Global III with the, from my understanding, the last 2 unpainted and unpatched Chicago & North Western units left on UP's roster, fresh out of storage at the Illinois Railway Museum a month or two ago. A very pleasant surprise!
Typical cause of such things is one of the many programs between the camera lens and your screen was updated and others were not. And the change may have been months ago, before a particular set of circumstances occurred.
MKT DaveI was using Opera, it still wouldn't work, so I tried explorer, came up no problem. Sorry all. I wonder why it stopped working with opera?

No problem here either. Except the near heart attack caused by seeing a single unit backing a string of hoppers through the yard at about 40 mph. Then I realized I was seeing a DPU (running in reverse) on the rear of a coal train.
Rail Grinder on the diamonds:
Notice, when I brought the page up, I was seeing what I thought was a nose forward of a engine, just to the right of the visitor center. I was watching it to see when it would leave. two trains EB and WB on the UP met on the diamonds I was very confused. When they were gone, the light was still there. Then watched it drive off and return before the Grinder arrived. Turns out, there were maintainance crew on the tracks back to the right. Trains were blowing twice before passing.
Was working on a manuscript with this running.

I mention this becuase Trains Page had a link to it for a while.
CatFoodFlambe Any idea why the remaining walls of the old Del Monte building were not taken down with the rest of the building last year (referring to the brick structure in the "opposite corner" of the diamonds? i would like an answer to that question as well

BaltACDIn today's world of computers and storage devices - memory and storage are cheap.
True, that. But they still cost money, and data needs have certainly kept up with, if not outpaced, available resources.
I was ecstatic when I put a 40MB hard drive in my Tandy 1000SX. Now I can carry 64GB around in my pocket...
I'm sure Kalmbach uses a hosting service, and the cost of that hosting is a line in their budget. Unless they can double, triple, or more their data storage at a price similar to what they're paying now, I don't see them doing so.

tree68 MKT Dave Just link the Flicker pictures here. Trains never has allowed direct uploads, to my knowledge. While some sites do, it's usually a question of server capacity. Given the propensity of railfans to take and share pictures, it wouldn't take long to use up a lot of memory.

The Trains forums, unlike some others, have no ability to upload and display user pictures.

Global 3 does originate/terminate some trains.
