tanper working on the other track today lining the tracks i guess
Red Sign pulled 1400 CST
I saw the red placard this morning. I had always assumed that it meant absolutely no traffic beyond that point. And yet, an eastbound UP came flying through on the south track. With the red placard still there.
Am I missing the intent of that placard?

Placard indicates the existance of a Work Area. Trains must get permission of the flagman in charge of the work area for permission to pass through the Work Area. The flagman will inform the train of the permissible speed through the Work Area, the speed may be anything from 10 MPH to Maximum Authorized Speed or the Flagman may withold permission for specific reasons. There will be some form of 'Advance Warning Board' for the Work Area about 2 miles before the Work Area and trains will attempt to secure the Flagman's instructions as early as practicable, and as soon as radio conditions will permit.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
DennisHeldThank you. But doesn't that mean the placard should be orange? I know. I don't know squat about operating rules. But I always thought red meant stop.
Not in this particular application of the rules. However, if a train goes past the placard without permission - it is handled in the same manner as the train having passed a Stop Signal and it will result in the crew losing their certification to operate as well as their jobs for a period of time.
No Red Board in place today.
WB UP train with a 'weired' make up (at least to me).
30 or so Double Stacks, 15 (or so) Covered Hoppers, more Stacks - both single & double
UP must be having a bad day around Chicago. They just sent out a WB train of double-stacks and covered hoppers! That is definately not how it is normally done.

That might hurt...covered hoppers can't travel as fast as stack cars, according to the System Special Instructions.I'm willing to bet that this one originated in Proviso (Global 2), where cars other than intermodal can be seen, and occasionally operate on the same tracks. Would love to see the wheel report, or even an AEI scanner report, on this one. Heads up, Jeff!

Those might have been empty "Boat Cans" going out to storage or taking a leisurely stroll back to the west coast, where they're not particulary wanted at the moment. US/Asia traffic patterns are kind of whacked out at the moment due to the general collapse of many commodity prices, and the West Coast longshoreman's slowdown isn't helping matters.CSX is taking a few trainloads of MTY containers out to storage locations at points in Ohio and Indiana (at least) for the moment.
2325 UP; WB on south track, dragging something and it didn't sound pretty.
It was working for me at 9:15 this morning...

Revised report. I think there may be a bandwidth issue. About six or seven minute after my last positive report the screen began to freeze up, likely due to folks checking it out for themselves. Then at 9:26AM CST the round button with the arrow that appears in the middle of the screen would not reactivate the feed. I had to reload the entire page, and it is still coming in intermittantly.
Coming in fine for me, though the picture is a bit snowy.
No problems for me.
I think that was a joke, son...There is plenty of snow there, but it didn't interfere with the vision. Just saw a westbound manifest on Track 2, wishing I could have seen that train when it went through here (didn't get out quickly enough).
Just watched something strange transpire over the past 15 minutes- a BNSF westbound went through on the far track while an eastbound UP waited. As soon as BNSF cleared, UP started to move, but then stopped just past the west signal bridge, shut off the ditch lights, and someone jumped down with a flashlight and was searching around the control box to the west of the diamonds. After about five minutes of this, the person jumped back on the engine, and off they went. Hard to tell exactly what was going on thanks to darkness and an apparent lack of bandwidth tonight...

Even stranger, blhanel posted that from the future!

Oh wait—so did I! I guess the server clock is off by several hours. Or is it in the middle of the Atlantic ocean?

I've seen that twice this past week. Some one getting off, going to the signal shanty, then looking down the tracks both ways, and then getting aboard and the train taking and off. Maybe a suspected signal problem or the toilet tank was full? Same track, same place.

It appears to start to load - and then diverts to a black screen. Tried this on both a Win 7 pc using IE and a chromebook. Something is amis. Didn't have any problem on the chromebook yesterday. Doesn't look like a good day for trainwatching via camera in Rochelle.Bob
About an hour ago I was watching some MOW folks around the diamond and then the button came up to refresh the feed. From that point forward everything went black. I can't put a more precise time on when the outage occurred.

I went to Rochelle just now (about an hour later than your post) and everything looked normal. An E/B BNSF oil train was passing when I opened the window. It's gone now and there's an MoW truck (UP? BNSF?) sitting on the NE side of the diamonds. No other activity right now; the crew is probably sitting in that truck having their lunch and/or trying to stay warm.
It's 27 there now (67 here ).
