I was almost in a marathon and almost got to play nurse.

Fishing in usual spot - lots of people running past - some good eye candy, too!  (Hey, I am old, not dead!)

Have some military males that run about every day - shirtless - can't beat that with a stick!

Lots of people looking like they were going to drop right next to Millie's door!  Then I would have to jump (HA!) out and start CPR.  I was trained many years ago, but now probably all I could do with them is try to roll them onto the running track and hope someone knew CPR.

I admire everyone that runs or makes an attempt, but feel really bad for them since they look like death warmed-over most of the time.  Even lower temps were good, but high humidity is a bite.

Fishing so-so.  Bass was kissed and released.  Turtle took bobber, hook and sinker to the bottom.  Detailing for the den?

Mookie

We used to have a KCS go thru just about every day (may still but we haven't been down there @ the right time lately) & FeroMex every so often.  Been a long time for that, too.  We never see UP/BNSF together.  Actually caught a CP a few weeks back.  But we do have a daily UP short thru here doing local switching &  delivery to our yard for processing.

Caught a second-unit FerroMex on a UP train from the Rochelle webcam this morning, and just now a UP mixed manifest went through westbound with two engines, UP leading and a very nice BNSF engine trailing.

Looks like the rain is finally quitting - we've had just over 1.1" since 4AM yesterday.  On the other hand, we did need it - been pretty dry of late.

As noted in the cam thread, I found that I can watch the Rochelle cam on my tablet - pretty handy!

Rain was promised for us today and tomorrow. When I got up, the sky was quite cloudy, and the clouds were holding their water, so I went on and walked after dressing. The only moisture I noted before coming back home was from sprinklers and inside my clothing--the temperature was already well above 70.

I have asked MC to return some moisture, but he has not yet done so.

We got a good soaking Sunday night. A sever thunder storm walked it's way down the highway from Hartland to Lake St. Clair. Lost power at 5 PM yesterday and just got it back at 9 PM today.

Happy Tuesday.

I put together a video on coal trains in my area for a local "slideshow".  Enjoy if you like.  It's family friendly (no bad words anywhere, but there is music).

Right down M-59...  A couple of my FB friends from the area commented on it as well.

The sun is out here today, although it is a fair bit cooler.  Need to mow or I'll have a jungle when I get back from the railroad on Sunday.

Brian - I caught that UP/BNSF!  That is just so unusual for me!

On the way home yesterday, we met a manifest with a BNSF engine behind the UP leader.  Before the recent melt down this past winter and spring, it was rare in my area to see a BNSF engine on a UP train.  For a while it was a frequent occurrence.  Now it's going back towards rare.

Other line's engines seem to go in spurts.  CSX and NS most common, but you can see almost any other class one's engines at some time or another.  Even saw the Iowa Pacific E unit come through, and spend some time in Boone yard due to mechanical problems, although it was being moved dead in consist to Colorado.

The cancelling of vacations didn't happen.  It kind of sounded like maybe someone took the idea and, "ran it up the flag pole."  The probably didn't like the kind of "salutes" it received.

So I've got a week off.  We started it off with a day trip to Omaha.  Started off at the zoo.  We had a good time there, but some of the animals seemed to be content to lounge in the shadows, out of the sun.  Can't blame them.  Even though it wasn't real hot, out in the sun it still gets pretty warm.  Of course we rode the zoo train.

Went to the Rails West Museum located in the old RI depot with some railroad equipment displayed across the street.  Also went to the UP Museum.  Thinking about making a trip out to North Platte.  It's just nice to not have to worry about the phone ringing.

Jeff:  I loved the Spike @ NP.  I would have spent the entire day there if the Driver hadn't had a sore sitter after about 4 hours.  It is really amazing!

Go for it, Jeff!  Just the drive out there along U.S. 30 (not the Interstate!) is amazing.

(My favorite spot in North Platte is under the bridge that takes the main street--Jeffers--over the tracks.  There is a quilt store for Pat almost under that bridge, on Front Street.  Under the bridge would be my set-up spot for much of a day, if it were catered...and had wi-fi...)

I get to go to Atlanta for a month. Reason I'm going is kind of cool, but not thrilled with having to go to Atlanta for a whole month.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Zug - you can't leave us hanging or Murphy will have you running for mayor of Atlanta!.

Fishing day - 2 bullheads - yippee.  5 Carp!  2lb (2), 3lb (2), 4lb.  I was in charge of kiss before release and one of them tried to kiss me back.  Icky!

I am not a camper.  Been camping in a medium self-contained trailer with 2 kids, 2 dogs and 2 adults for a weekend.  Twice.  The couch folds flat for a double bed (HA!)and one sleeps about 2 inches higher in the back until someone tries to turn over.  Same with bed, which is snug up against a wall.  (No pictures enclosed)  Toy dishes in a toy sink.  One-way traffic down the hallway, otherwise someone lands in the toy bathroom.  Fold down table to eat, which gives you purple, green and black knees.  And did I mention 2 kinds/2 dogs - one of which needs to "potty" during the night, starting a chain reaction.

So while Driver is hauling in major carp, I am in Millie - balancing a cereal bowl with cereal and milk to the brim on one leg and toast on the other, the paper in one hand and a pen in the other doing the Jumble.  No accidents!!! A round of applause for me who can't take the top off a pop bottle w/o dropping it twice - once off and once back on.  Skills I learned from camping.

I enjoy camping on occasion, and usually do so at Deshler when I visit (although it's not all that conducive to sleep there).  I'm usually in a tent, which means a hike to the "facilities" when the need arises.

The downside of tent camping is a lack of bathing facilities, so one has to hope for swimming opportunities, or friends and visitors who don't mind...

I've got a queen size air mattress, so room to stretch out is never a problem.

On the other hand, when on the railroad for more than one day, I sleep in the camp car, which is a standard-issue 8 person version.  At least it has heat and hot water, and gets interesting when there are both males and females there, which does happen from time to time...

Joe - we took the bypass over the 2 south tracks and saw nothing for miles.  I told the Driver that the train crews were all home reading the forum!  Laugh

Temp great today 83, but humidity 47% a little muggy.  Weather map of US has freckles all over it, except right here in the middle.  I don't know how it manages to get past us!

Happy weekend.  Busy week next week and company on Friday!  Thumbs Up

Mookie
Weekend almost over.

And now it's over, and not a moment too soon.

The gremlins were out in force this weekend.

Running a vintage locomotive all weekend is an interesting experience - until it decides to misbehave, however minor the misbehavior ends up being.

Sunday we had  problem with the genset on our train, so we used the Utica trainset, which was running with a substantially new locomotive.  It was a nice break, but I had to get used to the "modern" control stand all over again...

Between the fire department and my daughter's dog, which I'm dog-sitting next week, I'm taking a short vacation from railroading.  I won't know what to do with myself (yes I will - just hope I don't have to was the green siding stain off the dog...)

Time to wrap things up and call it a night!
