Let me try it this time...I just visited Chatterbox 2.0, and had to crawl in through the window again. I'm hoping that the judicious use of the spacebar will work this time. Welcome to the third incarnation of the Chatterbox!Much of the chatter is about the weather--and we're underneath the second storm of the night. I expect that the total for June will be over 11 inches of rain in our gauge.

They tell us we may see thunderbumpers today, but for the moment there's nothing showing anywhere near us.
The only time I encounter a problem with this particular thread is after making a post on occasion - I get a screen with no posts at all.
I have my settings set for the posts to appear in reverse order - the most recent post "on top." I've never had a problem seeing posts that way, and it's really easy most of the time. Unless it's a very active thread, there's normally only a few new posts and I can easily scroll down to find the last one I read.
Working on some raffle tickets - better get back to work.

Well some trespassers got nailed. On I-85 northeast of Atlanta some 3 persons killed while walking on road or shoulder. Details are sketchy and may change ?. Some persons do not realize you need to be in grass when walking on any expressway.
Carl, my weather station says 11.24" for the month of June. See if you can beat that.
Brian (IA) http://blhanel.rrpicturearchives.net.
Brian, we did beat you, by about an inch: 12.2, as of midnight.
That would be a flood here. I do not remember for sure, but it seems to me that the total for June in Salt Lake City was about one inch--which was a trifle above the average.

Came back from a fire alarm call in a neighboring village to a very spirited "fireworks" show. We got a tenth of an inch of rain from it - those just south of us got more, I'm sure.
Looks like we might have more in store as well.
If I haven't pointed it out before, blitzortung.org has a neat real-time lightning map. Watching several lines of storms march across the northeast right now. At least, until I head back for bed.
Tree - some of the most beautiful lightning I have seen was in western Nebraska. It is wide open out there and if you catch some just around sunset, you can see the huge clouds and the lightning playing tag among them. The colors are spectacular.

I saw some pretty neat lightning in Oklahoma when I was stationed there. Of course both have wide open spaces where you can see for miles. Unless I'm on a hilltop, my view is pretty limited around here.
I recall watching "anvil crawler" lightning one night as it spiderwebbed across the sky from horizon to horizon.
work still busy.came home and got yardwork done too. ns was busy switching uptown. They were really crowded when I got to work. The wepx coal train is still waiting for some power to take it to Detroit Edison.Time to get cleaned up.
Went across the Lincoln Prairie today in our covered wagon (Millie). Ate out again. It was good.

Late Monday night/early Tuesday morning we (me, conductor and student conductor) tied down a Waukegan coal train on the outskirts of Omaha. It's still there. The way it keeps dropping on the line-up, it might be there a while longer. It only took about an hour to get on, take it to Omaha and tie it down. It took 4 hours for the van to pick us up at the train. They were short on vans, so used the first one ordered for us for some thing else.
I have a week of vacation due at the end of the month. We've been trying to decide on what, or maybe more accurately, how to fit everything in we would like to do. It seems like the railroad may make that planning easier. My Local Chairman sent an e-mail that the railroad intends to cancel all vacations until further notice in our terminal. Problem solved!

our railroad was buying back vacations. $1000 + vacation pay + your earnings for working. I didn't have one to sell in the timeframe offered.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any

A friend of mine went to work for a company that, once they hired him, handed him a check, said "here's the pay for your vacation, don't ask for any time off..." He didn't make a career of it...
Wow! I was offered the opportunity to take pay in the place of vacation, but the idea of saying, "We are going to give you your vacation pay, and you will not be able to take time off from work," is astounding.
I had four weeks of annual vacation the last twenty years I worked; I often sold two or three weeks a year--and put the money into our vacation fund. Thus when I did take four weeks at a time the cost was not a great drain on our income. Ricki and I enjoyed the train riding we were able to do each vacation.
I think it is over. I feel like I spent the day and night in a popcorn machine. Wish I had the $$$ spent on all that noise.
Midnite was the stopping point by law. 2:30a and noise still going strong, higher management intervened and with a loud clap of thunder, a bright light and rain, it was blissfully silent.
It was quieter here than the past few years when there was a fireworks ban because of the drought . Dog was about as unconcerned about the noise as I've ever seen. Surprising.
The only noise I noticed here last night was Jackie's friends who spent the night in a tent in the backyard--at the end away from my bedroom. When I went to bed, they were still upstairs making high school graduate noises, which I expect when she has friends over.
We live far enough away from official fireworks sites, so I heard none of that. When I was living in West Valley City, there were fireworks set off close by, and neighbors also set them off. I did not hear any at all this year.
The problem that Holly had yesterday with the Fourth was that when she looked out through the window over the front door and saw the flag flapping, she thought someone was coming to the door and barked. She also barks when she sees anyone or a dog passing by. And, she was disturbed from time to time by the young people's noise.
I think they are all still asleep; I do not hear them upstairs.
csx was trodding along in Deshler yesterday.Diamond replacement might be the 14th and 15th.At least the recrew of K802 got a good view of the fireworks show put on at the Deshler Resivouir.Today is recover and catch up on chores.tomorrow it's back to work.

It is more humid today than the last few days. 86 degrees was the high today. The heat will be here tomorrow with an expected high of 93. One of these days I am going to dig the air conditioner out of the storage shed and put it in the house's window.

Ran trains on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with a good friend as conductor all three days. Made for a good weekend. I do kinda miss working on the train with the passengers, though. The weather was good all three days.
Fireworks on the St Lawrence Thursday, and in Old Forge on Friday. Saturday it was moose burgers at a friends house in Old Forge. Really. Moose burgers...
Heard some booming tonight when I got home, but didn't feel like looking around for the fireworks. I should already be in bed.
Turned my computer on tonight and it decided not to let me in as myself. Fortunately I'd set up another user, so I can use it, but it's going to be an issue if I can't get logged in properly...
Time for bed.
