Watch those Massachusetts drivers. I'm told traffic lights are strictly advisory. Wink

You will pahk youh cah. How do they spell with an accent?  My first & only subway ride in Boston.  Did love to listen to the accents, however! And if unless they have changed, ordering coffee was a trip -

Congrats, Randy.  I think you will fit right in!

Awesome.  Knew it wouldn't take long.

One of the guys (old head) in my terminal committed suicide yesterday.  He had a history of mental issues/depression, but still....

Sucks.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Awesome!  I bet that takes a load of worry off your mind.

You can still eat mac n cheese, but with expensive ketchups.  That's right, all the fanciest Dijon ketchups.

Zugs - Understand that completely. Geodesist next to me is struggling with 19 year old daughter that has "flipped-out" - It's eating at him something fierce. Bumming the rest of us who can't help from the sidelines.

Carl: Cool it you two with the slam dancing. Wobblies in the mosh pit ain't pretty. (BossHen saw it over on the other media.)

Randy: Hope they know they got some really good help.

Tired, sweaty feathers.

Yes. They are all posted by OhioRiverTrail. Oddly, he seems to be banned because his posts don't show up on other threads (but the record of his attempted posting is recorded on the "Home" page, not the list of threads) but he continues to post new threads, despite no content appearing.

They do come through in my email.

Zug, sometimes those things happen.  You feel not so much sad, but just strange.  Why did it have to be that way?

One old-head conductor ended his life because he found he had incurable cancer, and didn't want his family to suffer.  I'm sure they did, anyway, I'm sure.  A retired signal maintainer had lost his partner soon after retiring.  So he also ended his own life.

You just wonder...how can life be so hopeless?  How can they do that to others?  I guess it is sad, after all.

On a more cheery note, Pat feels little pain when he follows her doctor's advice (about anti-inflammatory medications as well as not moving refrigerators).  We had errands to run, lunch to eat, and a museum to tour, and she almost made it home before her meds needed to be taken again.  But she is able to walk, breathe more deeply, and help with the yard work in a sort of supervisory fashion.  I did plenty of that today, too.

Randy:

I is certainly refreshing to know that the folks there in Mass are still the same drivers they were years ago.  I started going up there in the 1980's.      Even then a STOP sign at an intersection seemed to be nothing more than a suggestion to the Local's Aliento just pause before shooting into the intersection, Cryingeven if it was occupied, or not.   Blindfold

When I visited Boston in the late 60's early 70's, my brother-in-law picked us up at the airport.  We went on about a 20 min drive.  I slid down in the seat and closed my eyes.  Most terrifying ride in my life.

What a weekend (so far), and so much to catch up on.

Randy - congrats!  Maybe you can swing down to West Springfield next year for a face-to-face at the train show (assuming I go).

Boston is the epicenter of the "wonderful" driving, in my experience.  Those a little further out aren't quite as bad.

Interesting couple of days on the railroad, especially when the genset quit on Friday.  I wasn't able to get it going until we parked the train for the night...  After my "vacation" today, I'm back on the rails on Sunday.  Hopefully sans incident....

The "vacation" was the annual French Festival in Cape Vincent.  Spent the day riding my bicycle around, looking for EMS trouble.  Found a little, unfortunately...  Nothing serious, though.

For now, though, it's time for bed!  Zzz  Unfortunately, the neighbors a couple of places down are having a party.  As tired as I am, though, I doubt I'll have any trouble sleeping.

So far I haven't seen:  Randy, is your new job rail-related?

Congratulations, either way!

Today's weather is turning out much better than was forecast initially.  We aren't in a mood to do much about it, what with broken ribs (Pat's), research to catch up on (mine), errands to run (ours), and our regular car in the body shop.  Maybe I can catch up today, but Pat doesn't like tomatoes, either.

It's Monday.  We have one new baby bunny in the yard.  The heron at the fishing hole got married this spring.  And Mrs. Mallard and all her babies are now starting to look like it is time to prepare for a vacation and lose the kids.

Polar Bear coming in from Canada. This is summer.  You aren't supposed to be "comfortable".

World Cup is over and even tho I only watched the last 5 min, I am exhausted.  And they think baseball is slow!  This is tennis on steroids.  At least in hockey, you have hockey and boxing combined.

And smell us!  Sir Paul McCartney is performing here in our spot on the map city tonite.  They probably had to send a party out to lead him to "where is Lincoln NE?"  I won't be there, but if they televised it - I sure would watch it.  Town will be nuts all night!

Anyone watch Doc Martin on PBS on Sunday nites?  Great show.

What if they had a fight and a hockey game broke out???

Wet, miserable day on the railroad yesterday (yes, I put that in my conductor's report...)  The only "boat people" that stuck it out ended up dumping their canoe just as they were landing at the takeout where we pick them up.  The other group gave up and went back to their starting point.

Sunny and warm here at home today.

Got a love note from the IRS today.  I owe them more money.  Figured out that I did, indeed, make a significant miscalculation, so it's time to cut them a check...  Ouch.

Just found out that "Heart" is playing Watertown this summer.  You think McCartney needs a GPS to find Lincoln?  Watertown is only about 25,000 people!

Carl: Just spent hours sorting out what should have been a 15 minute task on your former employer's railroad. Man, can simple documentation ever get lost in a heartbeat. [Think CNW Spring Valley Branch (What's left is UP's Troy Grove Sub] crossing CB&Q\/BN/BNSF/IR at Hegeler/ Dalzell]....there is nothing there anymore but a wooded ravine between some cornfields, but it used to be part of a spiderweb junction of 4 railroads (CB&Q/CNW/MILW & LSBC)....CNW must've been almost desperate to access Streator once upon a time....all to prove that a bridge could be replaced with a small pipe and a trails fanatic was talking nonsense.Bang Head

Mooks: prepare to open windows and return to springtimeCool, cold front is supposed to get here today. (had a rabbit huddled under the Weber kettle last night trying to stay dry in last night's t-storm that had BNSF and UP looking for flash flood scour conditions south of Denver).

Did some freight railroading today!  Well, it was two hoppers full of ballast, but they are freight cars and not passenger cars.  And they didn't complain if I jostled them around a bit.....

We're doing some track work and the cars were on a siding on the short line we run over, so we had to go get them.

The weather was wet today, but still warm.  I suspect that won't be the case by tomorrow as the cold dips south.

Long day.  Time for bed.
