BC - they are so thrilled to have sold the Big Boy whatever, they will extend the yellow bands by another year!

Back to using the window again.  This is getting old.  Wonder if any of the techies that work on this ever read any of these posts?  I bet the Sunset Route never has to climb thru a window and they have to be taking up some major space.

It's ok. I doubt if anyone will miss the Easter Opossum.

Nobody missed the Christmas Opossum I left with a split personality last fall, either.

So that's what you would sound like in person, Eh?  The weatherman and the girl are about the same size, so they must both be on an elevated platform.  If she stands next to your son, she must come up to about his elbow.  Tell Will not to break his neck on those 4" heels.

60's today, wind, thunder, lightning - almost rain.  Moving the lawn about 30 miles north of house.  That seems to be where all the rain goes.  Too far to move it to Iowa!  Grumpy

Mower is still in it's winter hiding place in the garage.  Snowblower is still in its usual shelter.  Might swap them out next week.

Took the truck in for an oil change and to have them check on what I thought might be a problem in the rear end.  Turned out I was 180 degrees off - both front wheel bearings were having issues.  Covered under extended warranty, fortunately.

A full weekend of EMS classes, then the early part of the week will be spent at our local PBS station for their annual merchandise auction.  I'll make an appearance in front of the camera on Tuesday, when the railroad sponsors a portion of the evening.

Back to yard work.

4/24

As I go up to Oklahoma City from San Antonio and Ft. Worth (I had a bedroom to Ft. Worth on the Texas Eagle, but the Heartland Flyer is coach only), I have enjoyed the Texas scenery. Somewhere above Austin, I saw a field of what I believed to be bluebonnets–and by the time I got my camera out it was too late to take a picture, and I never saw another such field.

At Opal, the junction of the Katy with the Gulf Colorado and Santa Fe, I saw that some new signals were being put in.

Somewhere, I saw an HLCX locomotive, painted brown.

I also saw many UP covered hoppers, with CMO numbers (20-22 thousands) on them. The St. Louis Southwestern of Texas freighthouse is still in Ft. Worth, and it looked to be in good shape.

There was a Pullman Troop Sleeper in a park in Austin.

Tomorrow morning, I leave for Los Angeles, changing trains in Houston.

Johnny, I'm still trying to find out or figure out what makes the different reporting marks that UP uses on its modern equipment (UP, or CHTT, or CMO) significant.  It must have something to do with the nature of the lease or trust.  I've already decided that their numbering system, when it comes to these cars, makes no sense at all.

Today I hope to get down into BNSF (Q) country as we take care of some routine shopping.  I need a fix of a few freight trains with unusual equipment and perhaps a crude train or two.

Speaking of BNSF, does anyone remember Colin, who used to be "MetraKid2" on the Forums here?  He is now officially a student engineer on BNSF.

I couldn't believe the railroad let it happen but they did.  This morning, a Friday morning, at 0715 I tied up from my seventh consecutive start.  Now I'm on 72 hours of Federally required rest, not marked up until Monday morning at 0715.  They gave me a three day weekend!  Not just any weekend either, but the weekend my birthday falls on this year.

Usually when I get close to Federal Rest, something happens to reset the clock, but not this time.  (For quite a while my sixth start was looking to be a dead head and that would've set me up to reset, but they pulled them off and I got a train.)   I'm sure it was just an oversight on someone's part and heads will roll over it.Smile, Wink & Grin

Carl, I forgot to mention that I also saw some CHTT cars--and I do not remember, at the moment, what subsidiary this is.

I am spending the day in Oklahoma city; I had hoped to try to find a cousin whom I have never seen, but was unable to locate a residential telephone directory--so I could not call him if he is listed. As I was walking on one street or another, people would greet me as though they knew me (ahh, if only they did know me....).

It has been something of a challenging month for me here ... first my heart/CHF/blood sugar decided to play hob with each other but as well.....my band is doing quite well for itself .... :)

The gig tonight was...erm...interesting. Doing the first set I managed to toss my guitar into the speaker bin behind me....

Second set...skewered the headstock of same guitar into my 4X12.

OK, I'm schooled out for a week.

Two full days of EMS sessions, plus an evening.  Most of the presentations were pretty good, one was pretty boring, and way over the head of most of the attendees.  I know the instructor, though, and that's par for the course for him.

Now comes four days of TV (behind the camera), then two days of railroad - one working and one in class.

Busy, busy, busy.

Happy Birthday, Jeff!  (If a little late.)

Popcorn is almost ready.Dinner

Thanks for the B-day wishes.  Had a pretty good day.

Started off by mowing the lawn.  First time this year.  It was Becky's idea, since I had the time off.

Then took Becky to the emergency room.  Not for suggesting that the lawn could stand mowing, she fell after missing a step leaving a restaurant yesterday.  Hurt her wrist upon landing.  She wouldn't go yesterday to have it checked, but agreed to this morning after it didn't seem to be any better.  Nothing broken and should be good as new in a week or so.

Later we went to a presentation at the Boone & Scenic Valley's museum.  It was given by a mother-daughter team, mom was an Iowa teenager who was recruited by the UP during WW2 to work as a telegrapher.  Quite interesting.

And my ETT collection has grown with the addition of a 1987 Soo Line system, a 1992 ATSF system and a 1996 SP Central Region time tables.

Question about the video...   Would it not be a rules infraction for the conductor to stand between the siding rails even though switch is aligned for main?  What if loco picks switch ?

If you check national radar - the rain just blows up like an invisible bubble over NE and is even going backward.  We did have a nice rain all morning (thank you) and now sunny, sunny, sunny.  But barometer sez "whee" on its way down.

Found out I am going to be great grandma again.  This will be 2nd one, same granddaughter.  I have 3 granddaughters and one grandson, so the family could get rather large.  And mommy-to-be and husband think they will move to Lincoln.

I was born & raised here and only left for less than a year, but came back.  Family, extended family and some friends have all moved away.  But I must have a good porch light (think lighthouse) cuz they all come back!  I am glad cuz anyone that knows me knows moving is not an option with me. (I detest any form of moving) Put everything you need in life in a brown paper sack and drive off.  See how easy that is!  And if you really don't even want to do that much - set fire to the paper bag in the driveway before you go!  Cool  KISS!

I had to sneak in today.  Sad  I guess the trolls are back.

Thunder and rain this evening.  I was able to finish mowing the lawn before the rain started.  I took my grass clipping to the compost dump.  I was surprised how much had been dropped off there in the last week.  The burn pile is gi-normous.

Tonight they are calling for strong storms, wind, and possible tornadoes.  Guess that means sleeping with the weather radio.  I never felt the need to do that until I moved here in Missouri.

Stay safe, y'all.  I hope all y'all had a good weekend.

James
