Under a severe thunderbumper warning until 9.  So far just some rain and thunder.  We'll see if we get any wind.

Hey, if it helps diagnose the problem, I just made the previous post and the front door closed!  Had to come in the back way to do this one.

I had an argument with it earlier.  I nearly broke my nose trying to get in after having been in several times!

I think I've had that problem - but it's never bothered me.  My bookmark takes me to the main forum page, and I have the posts sorted backwards.  I have yet to have a problem getting in here.

Every now and then when I post I get a blank page back, but I'm done with this thread so just go back to the main forum, as I would for any thread.

As for the severe thunderstorm last night, some folks got a pretty good show, but here it was Pffffft!  All of .03" of rain, some lightning and thunder.

Off to a meeting of antique fire truck enthusiasts.

Must be nice outside - nobody's here!

After our SPAAMFAA meeting today, we got out our "new" piece of apparatus for a wash and to exercise it a bit.

"New" is a relative thing, though.  In reality, it's 130 years old this year.  Amazingly, after years in storage, it still managed to pump some water.

One of our future members gave it a go:

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10201850361691273

This Remington "Howe Patent" fire engine is intended to be operated by four horses or twenty-four men.  As you can see from the video (assuming you can see it), it pumps by turning a large gear (under the dome) which drives three piston pumps, as compared to the usually man-powered pumper which is operated by moving handles up and down.

As near as we can figure, there are only four fire engines of this design still extant.

Quick note, before I head out to join one of the mothers in my life.

Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers out there!  I hope you're treated very well today by your offspring.

As for the rest of you...happy Mother's Day to you, too.  You've all had mothers at one time or another--please do good by them!

Did my "sonly" duty by calling Mom this AM to wish her a Happy Mother's Day.  I always forget to buy cards for pretty much every suitable event...

She's in AZ, I'm in NY.  Can't exactly take her out to dinner....

Looks like Madam LaMook might have gotten an "all natural" wake up call this morning, courtesy of Mother Nature...

Got the rest of the materials for the awning project yesterday, so after lunch, that's the project.   And while I'm waiting for the stain to set, I can work on digging out the lawn mower.  The grass is rapidly reaching mowing length...

We're supposed to see some rain early in the weeks, the remnants of what's in the middle of the country right now.

Ms Mook - a great video from our antique apparatus muster last year was pumping a hand engine (with the handles on the side that get pushed up and down).  One youngster was taken right off the ground when the "brake" on that side went up.

Soup's all warmed up.  Time to eat!

Tree:  You did good by Mom!  Think Carl did too!

All we got was a decent rain this morning - little to no noise.

Nebraska has some rotating clouds moving down Hwy 6 to the northeast.  If there is damage done, it will be west of us about 30-45 min.  But it has about an hour to travel before it gets within smelling distance of Lincoln and we should be ok - maybe not even get any more rain.

It has passed over a main line for BNSF and followed the main line east for awhile.  The towns along Hwy 6 were named by the railroad - Dorchester, Exeter, Fairmont, Geneva, Harvard, etc.  (pattern...)

Would not want to be out in the open country - feel pretty safe here.

Those old pumpers - wasn't that what they used on Keystone Kops?  Might be a little before your time, but I remember them trying to put out a "fire" in true Keystone Kop fashion.

Talked to my oldest and only daughter this morning.  She said south edge of Lincoln had tornado sirens going off.  I am inclined to think they were probably more for the Roca/Hickman area - south of Lincoln just a little way.  Nothing in town - and we live about 4 blocks from one.

Had lunch trackside!  Tried to see an old CN motor, but the coal train was pigging up the view.  So just saw the colors go by between the cars.  Darn!  Don't get much foreign power here.  And yes, I had food in my hands.  Got to lure those trains out somehow...Smile, Wink & Grin

We are getting hammered here...the rains hit about an hour ago, and we're at over an inch in the gauge already.  Over the same amount of time, the temperature has dropped from 81 to 64.

My kids were occupied, so I took their mother to the park by myself this afternoon, where just about every other family in many states had the same idea.  We left the park going in opposite directions--she to the Historical Society's Carriage House, and I to the tracks, where two eastbound freights were lined up.  I didn't have long to wait--a manifest came slowly through on Track 1 (lots of frac sand cars), and a stack train much more quickly on Track 2.  I suspect the stacker got to Elmhurst first, because the signal at Grace behind the manifest didn't change to Approach until the stacker had also disappeared around the curve.

After the signal at Grace changed to Advance Approach, then Clear, on Track 1, I left to go back to the Carriage House.  Pat and I then did a little shopping (couple of grandchildren's birthdays coming up).  We missed the inbound scoot, then got blocked by another eastbound stack train, but were able to clear the crossing before the westbound scoot came through.

Well, the Mookie is speechless!  Indifferent  This almost never happens!

Lincoln is pretty much dead center in the county.  They have been having wall-to-wall weather about storms moving this way from the west.  I am watching my own radar and listening to the police/fire channel.  NWS issued a tornado warning for nw corner of our county - pretty long way from Lincoln.

Sirens in way south Lincoln went off.  Nothing down by UNL, in north Lincoln, which would be a whole lot closer than way south Lincoln!  Nothing in our neighborhood - we are dead center town.

Fire asked why.  Dispatch was clueless what was going on other than the warning in NW corner. I was with them on that one.  But then, they woke us up one night with a siren and then went oops, false alarm, go back to sleep.

Then right at the height of mass hysteria on tv - they interrupt for about 3-4 political ads.

I shut the tv off and will rely on police/fire and my own radar.

Looks like this massive storm will wave when it goes by us.  But lots of damage in other small towns.  Rain is doubtful for us.

Mookie - It's safe to come out of the cellar now.

Shovelled 8" of wet heart attack snow off the driveway. Glad I had not planted yet.

Freeways are giant stupid zones this morning in Denver.

Watching the weather here.....Sort of wish we had had some of that snow (moisture!) down here.. It is now officially ( per the Wichita Fish Wrapper) the driest, ever) for this time of year.. Noticed yesterday that  a couple of sections had had their wheat crop bailed for silage...NOT a Good Sign.   WE did get some rain over night, but not nearly what was needed.    Looks like there 'might be' a little more for today(?).   Only one train wen through about 7 Am West bound ( JBH. cans and TOFC.  Probably exhausted the Boars over the Week-end(?)

Everybody have a great week. Be Safe.

We felt you needed it more than we did, so we did not snag any, except at high altitudes. At a mile above sea level, we had cold rain, and nothing more. The sun is shining brightly this morning, and I got my morning walk in before breakfast.

We were close, but no cigar here!  But did get a lot of really nice rain!  And 51 degrees and not higher for today.

Once again, blanket on, blanket off, fan on, fan off.

Ms. Mookie, I understand the blanket/fan routine.  After a few days, including today, in the 80s, rain is guesstimated for tomorrow and Wednesday with highs in the low 60s to upper 50s.  That extends to the weekend.

The flowering trees here are almost finished flowering and the "helicopters" or "whirly-birds" from the maples are covering everything.  Spring and Summer happen much sooner 80 miles south of St. Louis than when I lived 80 miles north and a little west of Green Bay.  Wink

Nice day here in the north woods, which was a good thing, as I had lots to do outside.

Started the day getting a little more brush ready for the town crew to pick up.  Followed that up by fixing my water system.

Noticed the pump was running when I hadn't used any water.  Not finding any visible leaks, it was most certain to be a problem I've had before - a leak "down in the well."  Pulled 60'+ of plastic tubing (two each) and the deep well jet out of the well and found that, indeed, the short pipe between the jet and the foot valve had rusted through.

After a trip to the home improvement store for the necessary replacement supplies, it's all back on-line again, which is good, because now I need a shower...

And while I was at the home improvement store, I found a part I was looking for for another project - I'd thought I'd have to order it on-line.  But there it was!  It's here now...

Mr. James - I looked at radar and the same storms that ruined a couple of small towns not too far from us, are headed your way.  Nasty business.  And they are really sloooow....

Tree - I would love one of those floor to ceiling corner showers with a permanent seat in it - take out the existing tub, please.  Will you put that on your to-do list for me?  Please???  Shy (water already piped in house, so ready to go!)

Ms. M.,

the nasty stuff missed us.  We had heavy rain around 11 pm local.

Today, I see cloudy skies and feel the cool 50 degrees.  I am sure the grass will love this and the mower will make its fourth trip around the yard this year.  Being scheduled for 48 hours this week, the mowing chore will have to wait for the weekend.

Joe:  We would take about anything right now.  We are a shower only family (TMI?), so tub not necessary.  My daughter is refurbishing a small house and is getting a shower with a seat and shelves that looks like a modular to take the place of the existing tub.  It is beautiful!

Imagine that - you go pick out the cubicle you like and you can have a shower, home office and breakfast nook all in - well, whatever room you want it in, I guess!  And a door for privacy for all those uses! (pull the curtain!)  Cool

BC - this is funny - but also because we visited a shoe shop in a shopping center.  They are refacing all of the shops - probably 30-35 of them - at once.  And repairing the parking lot.  Businesses are all open.  Looks like a bad nightmare and parking is non-existent.  The Driver cruised the big dig while I went inside.

71 and nice here - rain in area.  But down into the high 30's at nite.  Blanket on!  Heat on, too!
