National news tonite from Colorado Springs - subdivisions buried under tumbleweeds! They are using snowplow trucks to clear them away from doors and cars and gather them up. One pix showed a car completely buried in them.

As to Florida, my parents went to Florida (Tampa and near Tampa) right after they married in Virginia. Only after my father died did we leave Florida, moving to South Carolina where my mother's parents lived. My mother spoke of killing a rattlesnake with a shotgun (I think it was, a shotgun and not a rifle), and she spoke of watching a snake come into the house through hole in the floor one night as she was nursing me. It must have been an interesting life.
My only remembered exposure to Florida wildlife came when I stepped on a crab in Pensacola Bay one night 54 years ago this summer when a friend and I were crabbing--I was quick enough to avoid being pinched.

I worked out in Kingman, AZ area years ago on a project where we were doing automotive testing {actually truck transmissions}, in that area, and "critters" were certainly all around that area....Remember seeing quite a few Rattler's on the road at night....Understand they were after the heat in the pavement.
Also, when we did some running on sandy roads, it was possible to see some "side winders" scurrying in the sand perhaps where we might stop to turn around, etc......
And having stayed down in Fl. 8 Winters, a bit over a decade ago, that area was not void of critters.....Really have no desire to go back.

By the way, the problem with the blank page mentioned above is back. The count is 645 (multiple of 15), but I counted 12 entries on this page before this one. I remember seeing this before on other threads.
They grow them big in Louisiana. I remember finding a large one in the bathtub in a hotel room (older hotel) in New Orleans. I was not amazed at it.
Ricki said that when she lived in New York City you would hear them scurrying when you got up at night. If you had an exterminator treat your apartment, they moved next door--and came back when the apartment next door was treated.
I was thankful that we had no roaches when we lived in West Valley City--and I have yet to see any up here (only spiders so far). We also had no squirrels out there, but there are several around our house.
I saw two quail crossing the street when I went out this morning. I did not get a close enough look to see if they were a pair. In a few weeks there should be several families around here.

As to things that crawl into your boots at night, I learned, through my brothers, from my father's oldest brother ( I was just two years old the last time I saw him), that in Texas you are very careful in the morning. My grandfather and grandmother were married in Blanco county, and after the first four children were born my grandfather packed everybody up and moved back to his home county on the Northern Neck of Virginia, where my father (the last of eight children) was born. Nine years after the War for Southern Independence, my grandfather and his brother went to Texas to look for their grandfather who, with his second wife and their children, left Virginia about 1830 (I am not sure about the year). I believe that they did find him, but I am not sure, for he died that year, about ninety years old. While in Texas, my grandfather served as a Texas Ranger for a short time (I have a copy of his discharge).

Every now and then, I find a house spider in my kitchen or bathroom; once, I found one on my bed. I am not certain just what kind they are, so I avoid contact that may lead to a bite. However, I do not mind them if they stay in their place, but when they leave their place, it is,"Good-by, spider."
Does anybody know how Tom of Florence, S.C. is? We have not heard from him in quite a while. I know he had been having health problems.

We really don't know "what" it was...Our home is certainly not overrun with spiders....However something did bite me, above the knee inside of the leg.
Believe we've successfully eradicated all the poison with all that we've been through...The "wound" now is looking very good. The incision where the poison was drained, and packing put in to make it happen properly is just about grown shut. I'm treating it twice ea. day with meds. and it's looking good.
Back to our Dr. this Friday for his inspection, etc...
Working on gaining strength now...Have my appetite back, and that's a Blessing....Can't gain strength without food.
Again appreciate the thoughts for us to get back to our normal routine.
Always turn your boots upside down and bang them together. There may be unwanted critters in them.

Got tagged by one when I was 20, left a nice dime sized scar after all the “gunk” was drained from the wound, felt like I had the flu and a few stomach problems to go along with it.

Scorpions were one of the only things I didn’t like about living in the hill just outside of San Antonio.
That and the occasional millipede…ugly but fascinating critters.

We have enough of those stinging biting poisonous "critters" here in South Texas. Every once in a while I bag a brown scorpion who wanders into the house.
Good rule of thumb here is "Never reach your hand further than you can see."
