He was lost? If so, I am glad you found him, else he would be missed around here.

Found MC.  Enjoying his presentation.  Have to refrain from adding to it...

That was brought home to me in a doctor's office a few days ago.  Older men and women both and when the nurse would call the women, the husband looked startled when the wife jumped out of her chair.  Almost to a man, the men needed the wife to nudge them to go with the nurse.

On the dark side, they are useless to me because after working around running airplanes for over thirty years I have no high pitch hearing.

Norm - it's been found that sleeping children often to not respond to blaring smoke alarms.  Some research has found that the parent's voice gets a better response.  I believe that there may be some movement toward smoke alarms with voices.  If one could guarantee that Mom and/or Dad didn't whisper when recording, an alarm that would allow such recordings could prove useful.

Too, it probably wouldn't go over very well if Dad recorded an alarm message along the lines of "MOM BURNED DINNER - AGAIN."

I'd imagine that an alarm with a selection of alarms (either user selectable, or varying sounds, like many car alarms) might find a place in the market.  I believe there are alarms that include light.  Most fixed (commercial) alarms  now have both an audible and a visual alert.

Part of the problem is finding the right balance between waking you up and damaging your hearing.

Joe - the dog didn't even need a good sense of smell - we were parked about 5 cars away from them and they had tacos.  The hot sauce made my eyes water!

However, that dog was so funny.  She looked like a really comfortable chair for a little person and sat motionless for quite awhile.  I think she thought it made her look taller....

I like that teacher.  Too many people think of their children as furniture, so it is nice to see someone involved with their child and school as you always have been, and she proved it.

Norm - isn't it ironic that women usually have reasonably good hearing as they get older, while men, even with hearing aids, still can't hear.  (My Driver)

Tree - I am excited for you.  Checked his itinerary and he seems to be doing a rather extensive tour of New York State!  Scare him to death and give him a hug for me.

OK - I suppose that won't work for either of you, so just pat him on the back and hug Boss Hen for me!

Right - and safe - thing to do Mookie. I was told the smoke detector  batteries in my apartment are good for ten years. That must mean they are Lithium Ion. On the dark side, they are useless to me because after working around running airplanes for over thirty years I have no high pitch hearing. I need ones with a much lower tone.

At least my sense of smell still detects low concentrations of smoke.

Tree!  You would be proud of moi!  I checked my batteries list for everything in the house - including 3 smoke detectors and one CO detector.

While I'm sure one of the regular sponsors of "Change Your Clock - Change Your Battery" - a battery company - sees some dollar signs in the campaign - it's a task that does need to be done.  Somehow the campaign has gone from beeing fall-only to both the spring and fall time changes, but too often is better than not often enough.

Setting the alarm clock for an early rise tomorrow morning - gotta go check the net...

Going to the bank to get the loan for them this week!

Dogs!

I am an all animal lover, but today in the park I saw something I have never seen before.  A family was having a picnic at a picnic table and they had their Mama Basset Hound and her puppy with them.  I am partial to Bassets - so would glance over every so often to watch the dogs.

I happened to look over there only to find Mama sitting up.  Just like an overstuffed chair.  Dogs sit up, but I have never seen one look so comfortable doing so. No balance problems for her. She didn't look like she was begging, just like she was really relaxed sitting that way.  Looked just like a fire plug with fur.  Maybe she likes the height to help her see the world better?

Is the voting for all or just American voters?

I don't know that there is any restriction.  I've never run one of those surveys myself, so I don't know what restrictions can be added.

I'm sure the other side is taking all the votes they can get, so why not?

Hopefully, Tree won't have to repair the net after I've gone through......

Had a chance to run through the house last night, so stopped by and slept in my own bed for a change.  Got a load of QuadGraphics fodder for the post office in Rochester for Monday morning, then because of my hours that I pick up, things get sketchy after that.  Can't run much on five hour days....

Little chilly here this morning, mid thirties right now outside.  Read the forecast discussion for our area, going to be a cool and somewhat wet week, with the possibility of a freeze for next Sunday night.  Fall is here......

Better get my tail in gear, it's just over 11 hours from here to Rochester, and will have to spread it out over two days......

Make sure it is a reinforced net

It's a scheduled stop, so I'm pretty sure the net will hold.

While I'm here - Need some help.  Kindly head over to this site and cast a vote for completing the restoration...  You can read about the "battle" in another thread here on the forum...

ONLY 16 years ago?... seems like a totally different age ago.

How about John Lennon: He was killed just about 33 years ago.....a TOTALLY different era!

Joe - cool!  Next time I go track-side, I am going to have the Driver show the engineer his keys and see if he will let us run the engine!  Think?

Tree!  A visit from Sir Chicken and Boss Hen is always a delight.  Make sure it is a reinforced net - he travels very fast, even when she is riding shotgun.

Indeed, it was.

All is in readiness for Sunday's chicken barbeque.  Hopefully we'll sell out quickly (but not too quickly) and can get packed up and home fairly early.

The net has been erected in central New York.  Expecting to find some dirty feathers in it Tuesday.

went to new haven and garrett to see what was going on the yards.found a set of keys in garrett.Turns out they were for the museum and layout. caused some excitement but we waited for a member to come and identify the keys. As a reward Matt got to run trains on the layout. Mom and Matt are worn out. Church and Sunday school tomorrow.

Sir Chicken needs a vacation.  Few days off...  snicker...

Had early appt, so then had breakfast out and track-side.  Very busy day.  Lots of coal, some freight and refurbishing the area around the diamond.  Vacuuming area!  Boy they are neat!  Just heard what sounded like a Loram coming in the Hastings/Amtrak line heading to what sounded like the area that they were working.  Lot of "staff" around the work site.  Must be a very large project.

We would have gone down into the area and peeked at them, but I didn't want to have a problem with Sir C's rubber-tired engineers.

Also saw an MT ballast train- as long as a normal coal train - headed east - probably for a refill.  Two SD70's on point.  Saw a lot of SD70's today paired with a lot of 9's.  Must be clean the closet out week.

Party that sits there frequently said he saw 3 Boeing trains this week.  Usually one a week if we are lucky.

Nice day - 78 but with 23-27 mph south winds, it kind of "blows the sun around".

Aw, Chicken found my snow trap.  See that big line of thunderstorms out in North Platte area.  Never make it this far.  And what are you doing out in the woods, where bears go....literally....?

A couple of them "rubber tired" civil engineers ran into chicken with ruffled feathers -   might just feed them to the bears as a light snack.

Murray - my first thought exactly!  And hard-boiled eggs in a crowd?  tee-hee

Zardoz - That's a Wisconsin thing.  We were Ranger Rick here.  We can't say "eh", eh?  We say "Warsh the Car!"  And Norfork when it is spelled Norfolk.  And the BNSF has a Juniata (starts out June...) and Waunita (starts out Wan ) on the same line.  And we have Bee-at-tris (Beatrice, not Bee-a-tris), Carney (Kearney) not Kerney.
