Can't seem to reply to the other posts.  Says I don't have permission to reply.

I don't mind the look.  I do mind that it now takes two clicks (and the corresponding response time) to reach the most recent posts.  Looks like you can view them in reverse order (most recent at top), but unless that's global, you still have to click (and wait) twice to get where you want to go.

I think the reply thingie is still turned off.

Edit: the reply thingie works for responses, but not the original post.  And it keeps the text blue.

Every time a forum gets a new design everyone swears it's the end of all life as we know it.  It never is.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

There is no reply button on the first post, so how was it possible to make post number two?  I am guessing that the reply button was there at first.  I have noticed things come and go here.  At least all of the old technical problems of the old format have been replaced by new problems.

(edit) After I posted the above paragraph, it returned to the thread, and the reply button was there on Tree's first post, but only for a few seconds, and then it disappeared when the thread finished refreshing.   So I would say that is a bug.

The "rich text editor" works for the first.  But where's my total number of posts?  OR my join date... damnit, seniority is EVERYTHING!

Okay... not sure I like the "new look".  Especially all the "white space".  Maybe if the stark white were toned down a bit to slightly grayer.

Not sure I like the access methods either.  Now to see what threads have new posts that I have not read, I have to click the "Not Read" link at the top.  I guess I can get used to that but it is just one more click after a long wait for the page (that I don't want) to be populated so I can do the click and wait for the page I do want to be populated.  And it appears that that 2nd page will just get bigger and bigger unless I actually read each and every posting it lists.  I am not interested in every subject and skip over many of the postings... There used to be a link that I could click and it would mark all the threads as having been read so that the list of subjects would have no highlighted threads showing them as "new".

Is there such a feature in this new forum layout?

The rich text editor is needed to quote a post, but I don't see how it can used to quote a post that does not have a reply button.

And apparently the last font color used in the first post becomes the default color in all following posts unless you change your following post to black or another color.

Have no idea where I'm at.  Why do we have to go thru this every so often.

Everything is so small.....Us more mature folks, don't really appreciate that.

Don't have time now to fight thru this....

I see "Reply" buttons at the bottom right of EACH posting in this thread.  I clicked the one on Bucyrus' posting (of 8-14 @ 8:57 PN) and all it does is open a small text box below that posting for me to type this (what you am reading) into.  For my other post in this thread I clicked the "Use rich formatting" link next to the Reply button and got a new page with a text box and the icon toolbar for extended formatting.

I also see a "Cancel" link (I assume that is what it is) at the lower left now, so I assume I can click it to forego actually posting this.  (I won't, but I am not sure how to actually send this posting as I don't see a "Send" (or equivalent) button or link.  I suppose if you read this I will have figured it out, but other wise, all my typing has been for nought!)  Think I will click the Reply button again!

the bottom of the thread below my last posting and I didn't click the Reply button at all.  I do see a Pencil Icon above this box that when I hover my mouse arrow over it, a tooltip shows that reads "Edit this post"... so I think I will click it to see what happens!

Glad I did a Select All (Ctrl-A) and copy to the clipboard (Ctrl-C) to save what I had typed as it opened a new page with the previous post in a text window so I could edit it.  I opted to back out of that and got a dialog box asking if I was sure I wanted to navigate away from that page.  I clicked the afirmative and got back to here, but had lost the first stuff I had typed... so a Paste (Ctrl-V) command put what I had saved back into the text box so I didn't have to retype it.

Modelcar/Quentin:  To me, things look BIGGER than they were.  But I do see variations in text size from one post to the next.  So I am assumming there is some way to alter the size (I am sure there is in the Rich Formatting tools, but not in the simple reply which I am using here.  I see no way to quote the posting I am replying to either (other than a copy and paste, which, unless I do some formatting of my own, will leave people guessing what I quoted and what I am adding on.

This is terrible.  Response is a gamble.  No date joined.....No count.....click on something and end up who knows where...Ugh.

This is about the fourth or fifth format revision I've endured here.  I'll probably get used to this one, too.  It just takes a while.  Use Rich Formatting...I called Rich, and he hung up on me...

So far, I can do this...

Ah...there seems to be no way to edit my own posts once they're out there.

Also, we persevered last time and got more posts per page shown...let's see if we can do it again.  I had to go clear down to Page 3 to resurrect the Trackside Lounge just now (and it still wants to correct "Trackside"!).

I agree with Zug...I like to know how long someone's been around.  The post count isn't important, but the seenie date is.  I also don't see any way of accessing personal information about other posters.

To get personal info, just click on that person's avatar or name on the header of the post.

To edit, there's a little pencil button on the bottom left of your post.  That opens up the edit thingie.

When I mentioned a post without a reply button, I was referring to only post #1 of this thread.  There is no reply button there.  All other posts have reply buttons.

All posts will start in plain text as a default unless you select rich text.  With that, you get all the font choices, sizes, colors, etc.  To quote somebody, you have to hit reply, and then you have to select rich text.  Rich text is necessary for the quote function to work.

I get the impression that everyone is seeing something different here depending on what browser they are using, you know, kind of like gmail.

(edit) Yes, that little pencil is the edit function, but I don't see how to delete a post.

(edit)  I tried to delete test by editing it as a deletion, but it won't accept an empty post as an edit.  So how do you delete a post?  I am guessing you can't.

I see the reply button on all posts, but the "Use rich formatting" link is only on the last post of a pagefull.  I am using IE-9.

I also see that in the list of threads on the forum, threads that get updated do NOT get added to the "UNREAD" list!  OUCH!  That makes that "feature" kind of useless!

Guess I have to go  back to the way I used to do it before I discovered the "Not Read" feature of the old software...  That is, just try to remember when I last logged off and look down the list for the first posting after that date/time and then read upwards on the page looking for threads of interest.

I used to always log-off at the same time every day so that was relatively easy, but since I retired I am on and off all day long at my whim, so it will be more difficult to remember what I have already read and what has some new content, so I expect to be re-reading some posts and not reading others as I miss-remember when I last looked.

Tis sad when an "update" is a "downgrade".  But it sure seems to happen more often than not!

It happens every time software is improved.  It is a cultural thing.

The rich formatting option becomes available in any post once you press the reply button in that post.
