Quentin, I am sorry to hear of your loss. You have certaily been through much in the last few weeks, but by God's grace you have held up. May he continue to support you each day.

The past few weeks have held sorrow for us. Yesterday, I learned that the husband of one of Ricki's co-workers died on Father's Day, and I was able to attend the memorial sevice this morning.

There were five ladies, who worked as field representatives for the Census Bureau, working on assigned surveys every month. They were all different in many ways, but they had in common the task of asking  a sampling of people (who did not have to answer, but if the respondents refused to answer, the field representatives were dinged) questions on various topics. Ricki was the first of the five to retire, and all have now retired, with great joy, from that work.

.....I'm overwhelmed with responses, and such tender words.  Lord be with each and every one of you.  Your thoughtfullness all along with the Medicial difficulties with Jean, has been so touching, and please, each one of you accept our heartfelt thanks.

Jean passed into the Lord's hands at 2 am Wed. {today}.

We had wonderful care at the ICU that Jean was being cared for, and even some nurses stopped by on their day off.

The wonderful surgeon that performed the difficult  surgery to her colon, called me a few hours ago and had such nice kind words.  We believe the fact the heart has been weakened, some years ago, just could not handle the load, and oxygen and fluid were the items that could not be handled enough to save her.  We have a great hospital here in Muncie.  I H Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

So we've been blessed with people Praying for us.  This just happened to be the Lord's time to call Jean Home.

Erin {daughter}, and I send our blessings to each of you. May the Lord add a new gold star for all your blessings you sent to us........

Good Thursday morning all.  Starting out with a temp of 74 degrees here in Louisville this a.m.  Going for 103 degrees this afternoon.  So in just a little bit, I'm going to take my walk, so I don't get done in.  And yes, will have a cold bottle of water with me.

Quentin, you know we'll all be thinking and praying for you, Erin and the rest of family.  You take care of yourself, remember to eat a little something, even if you don't exactly feel like eating:  you need to keep your strength and health up.  You definitely have plenty of friends, especially here on the trains forums.

Coffee, juice, Gatorade, iced tea (sweetened & unsweetened), lemonade, limeade, milk (reg., chocolate, strawberry), and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the breakfast bar.

Everyone have a good morning, take care and see you all later.

Good Morning Railfans!

Well, we got some rain and also WIND yesterday which ended the streak of 100+ days...

The rain did help the Fire Fighters yesterday but sadly we are see more of the destruction that has occurred.

In Colorado Springs the count of homes lost is somewhere between 200 and 300.  Once it got into the city it was literately a house to house fight.  Here is an aerial shot of some of the massive destruction...

The large fire up near Ft. Collins is now 75% contain and they are saying 257 homes have been lost there.  It is listed today at 87,284 acres.

Sadly I am learning through Co-Workers that they have family / friends whose homes are among those lost in recent days

I feel a little lonesome.... no fires, no pouring rain, no train wrecks, just the normal heat and humidity we have ever year.

Omaha had College World Series and Olympic Swim Trials - and a lot of extra guests.

Now that I think about it, we are doing just fine!  Smile, Wink & Grin

Wow, Randy - job security for a lot of clean up people!

When I saw Brownville, I flashed for a second to Brownsville, NE.  Then I remembered we had heat, not moisture.

But this is the way I like my excitement - on the puter and NIMBY.

Yeah, mudchicken, you all really need the moisture!!  We could use some rain also, but basically thinking of you all in Colorado!  We have a current temp of 101 degrees F.  Bowling Green, down in the southwestern part of Ky. has a temp of 104 degrees, and I think, Owensboro, 106 degrees.  Mama Kiki, her 2 from last year, and 1 kitten from this year, have been zonked out on the front porch most of the day.  The other 2 kittens are staying under the crawl space, I guess, as we haven't seen them since around 10 this morning.

Joe, you sure did guess the menu for this afternoon and tonight:

Garden salad, fresh sliced tomatoes, cold potato salad, Caesar salad are all on the cold end of the serving station.  There's also some cold chicken salad and turkey salad.

Right now, hating the thought of going out around 7:30, 8:00 to water the flowers, etc.  No relief from the heat until about midnight, according to what I heard on the 4 p.m. weather report.

Everyone take care, keep hydrated, stay as cool as possible, and see you tomorrow.

Afternoon.

66°, SE wind at 14 mph, and partly cloudy. The guessers had to admit yesterday that they do not know what is going on with the weather. They have been expecting more heavy rain for several days now, and understandably want to make people aware of flood possibilities due to already high stream flows, but now admit they may have been overstating things. It seems that man has very little control over exactly where weather fronts move, and when they take different tracks than expected, someone else gets the bad weather.

This is good news for the people of BC who can now concern themselves with cleaning the existing flood damage, without having to worry about new damage occurring. The CPR is also in that category, as it concerns their mainline.

There was an unofficial convention of sorts for a number of American tornado chasing people here earlier this week. Their group set out from Taber, AB on an all day storm chasing trip up to Kindersley, SK. This is roughly like driving from the south side of the middle of nowhere, though the middle of nowhere, and out to the north side. It might be 200 miles, and if 30 miles of that route was paved I would be surprised.

I've got to tell you, it is something I never would have thought of doing, but it would be a cool trip in nice weather. In many ways still, it would be like stepping through a time warp back to my childhood. To see the "country" when it was still really "country". Ahh, well.

Quentin, take care, and everyone else have a good day.

Bruce

Good Friday morning all.  Starting out with a temp of 81 degrees here in Louisville this morning, going for a high of 101, 102 later this afternoon.  The last I heard last night, our high made it up to 103 degrees, around 6 p.m. And still no rain in sight for us, until possible Monday or Tuesday of next week.  We go outside to water the tomato plants and flowers, and within 5 minutes, you cannot tell that you watered, because the ground has soaked the moisture up that fast.

Anyhoo, coffee, juice, Gatorade, lemonade, limeade, and various flavors of Kool-Aid, iced teas (sweet & unsweetened) are all fresh and ready to go.  Bacon, eggs and toast are on the breakfast bar, along with cantaloupe, watermelon, kiwi and papaya.  And if none of this clicks your interest this morning, boxes of cereal are on the counter.

Everyone take care, keep cool, calm and collected, and stay hydrated.

Quentin, my condolences to you and your family......

Well, we broke the record high in Burlington yesterday, got to 97, and felt like it too driving home in the pickup.  I really need to get the air conditioning fixed in it.

Luckily, the air conditioning works fine in the house, so will be doing projects inside this weekend, much cleaning and organizing still to be done.  Today, though, am taking my mother out for lunch and grocery shopping, she had hernia surgery last week, and is doing better.

Will take a gallon of Gatorade, and some time to nurse it down.....

Good Morning Railfans,

Well, for the most part we have had weather that is helping the Fire Fighters get control of things and these same storms have brought Wind / Lightning and more fires yet have started.  The newsest big one broke out near Grand Junction (Pine Ridge) and is already at 10,000 acres and I-70 is now closed near the fire

Well, went to the grocery this morning, and got back just before 1 p.m.  So far, not feeling too bad out, just plain ole HOT.  We do have a breeze blowing, and fortunately, it isn't as hot a breeze as we had yesterday.  That was stifling, to say the least.  Since I was at the grocery during the noon news/weather, don't even have any idea what the current temp is.

If any of you are interested, I pulled up Muncie's newspaper online, and printed out a copy of Jean's obituary.  If you'd like to read it, here is the link:

From there, just look for obituaries on the left hand side and click.

Our Friday Fish Fry is now underway, and on the warmer bar:

All the regular list of fish, and, of course, the regular sides menu and dessert menu.

Everyone have a good, safe afternoon, keep cool and take care.

Joe, there cold salad on the serving station, along with all the other side dishes.

Murray, thanks for the added link:  I forgot about that one, or I would have posted it also.

Well, it is official:  we broke our record high for June 29th:  105 degrees.  The normal high for this date is 88 degrees.  Our humidity level is below 30 percent (28%), but we do have a heat index ranging from 105 to 115.  Looks like that will be the range at least through Wednesday or Thursday.

Walt and I think we're postponing our supper until at least 7 p.m.  Just don't feel like fixing our supper yet (normally, we'd be in the kitchen, preparing or warming up supper, to eat around 6:30).

Everyone take care, have a good evening, keep cool and see you all tomorrow.

Nothing new here.

Driver made a remark while watching the Colorado fires.... When they have a hurricane somewhere, all the news people are standing right in the middle of it.

Think you can figure out the rest.

Lunch with daughter and new husband tomorrow.  They are catering.  Did I raise her right or what!  Dinner
