.....After lunch time, the sun finally made it out and it turned into a real nice afternoon.  So...a badly needed mowing was accomplished.  {Just 3 days since the last mowing}....Just now cleaned up the edges of the driveway and sidewalks...Cleaned up the grass off the driveway and....tractor.

I did see 68 degrees here this afternoon and it may have been a bit higher.  Nice temp to mow.

Next in about another hour is another ball game with our Pacers.  Playing Milwaukee this evening.

Guess it is about time for our Saturday Night Pizza Fest.  Here is the lineup for tonight:

01.  Anchovie

02.  Canadian bacon

03,.  Cheese

04.  Chicago style

05.  Goetta

6.  Ham & green pepper

07.  Hawaiian

08.  Italian susage

09.  Pepperoni/mushroom

10.  Supreme

11.  Vegetarian

It has been a pretty cool day, even with the sun shining.  Haven't checked the thermometer for awhile, so don't know if we've managed to make 67 degrees or not.  Everyone have a good evening, enjoy your pizzas, take care and see you in the morning.

....Any one else note the word in the news this morning of an effort by FECI to create a passenger train service from Miami area to Orlando area....Priviate enterprise...not Amtrak.  200 mi. corridor of existing route, and will need about 40 miles of track to come into Orlando area.....

Cost mentioned at 1 billion dollars and possibly by 2014....

Seems a bit unusual of a priviate enterprise to be jumping into this...??  It would certainly be a nice start to get such a passenger route up and running without hearing the back and forth of why we do and don't want.....and will / won't spend money...bla, bla. by the political types.

....A much cooler day.  Checked the rain gauge, and it indicated we've received 1.65" in the last 2 days.

Now, this morning and still, waiting for grass to dry....I must get on the lawn again....It's growing so fast now....and is a pretty deep green too.

To get up to 68 today.  Had 55 earlier this morning.

Good Saturday morning everyone.  Yes, Joe, I am feeling better this morning.  Thank you for thinking of me.  Think I might have eaten something Thursday night, that didn't totally agree with me.  But, its no fun to wake up with a very queasy stomach, and your head swimming around.  Until after 5 p.m. yesterday, think I spent more time lying in the bed, than sitting up.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer bar this morning:

bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes, waffles, fresh fruits (kiwi, cantaloupe, bananas, apples, papayas, fried taters, fried country ham w/red eye gravy, made from scratch buttermilk biscuits, and cinnamon streusel coffee cake, will be on the warmer bar until noon time.

Jefferson County, KY did have a EF-1 tornado touch down in the eastern part of the county/metro area yesterday afternoon.  Right around the Highview/Fern Creek area, in the south east part of the county.  That is the area where I grew up.  Fortunately, no one was injured, and no fatalities from it.  There was one home, a 2-story house, that became a 1-story home, when the 2nd floor collapsed on first floor.  Fortunately, the homeowners were in Colorado, and are expected to return sometime later today.  Their neighbor called them, and let them know what had happened.

I managed to stay up and watch the entire Kentucky - Indiana game.  It was a great game, both teams played well, but:   UK came out on top!

Everyone have a good day, enjoy, and see you all this evening for our pizza fest.

Good Morning Railfans!

Well two of my NCAA bracket teams won last night out of the three I had a chance with.  Tonight I have another 3 out of 4 with a better chance of getting all three.  We have 55 brackets in play in our company NCAA challenge and I moved up from #44 to #32 with those two wins.  No hope to get past the top players but its still nice to get out of the bottom ranks.

Looking at 70F - 80F over the next few days so summer is rapidly approaching.  It even looks like I will need to do some watering this weekend which is weird as March is normally a snowy month for us.

Good Friday morning everyone.  65 degrees here in Louisville this morning, with light rain.  It should be a day with on again/off again rain, until later this afternoon, when we get a chance of some thundershowers.  Our projected high today is the low 70s, going down into the mid to uppers 50s overnight, for a few days to come.  By Tuesday, should climb back up to the upper 70s for highs.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer bar this morning:  bacon, eggs, oatmeal, cold cereal and toast; or, you can have doughnuts, danish or muffins.

Think I'm going to start the day by putting up my coffee cup, and having a ginger ale.  The old tum-tum isn't feeling too good this morning.  And not going to try to put anything to eat in my tummy for awhile, until it settles down.  Ick!

Everyone have a good morning, take care, stay dry, if you're getting the rain showers, and see you all later.

Rooting for Cincinnati over Ohio State tonight. (Went to both schools)...Any cowards like those in Columbus who have actively refused to ever play their in-state rivals again (since 1962 after losing two consecutive Final Four games to the Bearcats) deserve to lose after that show of bad sportmanship.

MUD:  Kentucky would not play Louisville (?) until state legislature passed bill requiring same. Rupp nearly had a heart attack.

Good evening all!

Had a temp of about 80* today. Very nice with a good breeze. Grandma fixed me a nice lunch of Spam sandwiches with horseradish on them. Now that's good eatin'!

Did some rail-fanning. Caught a westbound mixed freight and a westbound Road Railer.

Have a swell evening all!

Mudchicken, really enjoyed reading your account of your story.  Great story!

I did get out this morning, around 10:30 or so, and took a nice walk:  got back home a little after 1 p.m.  No rain yet in our immediate area, but it looks like it could start raining any time.

Supper/dinner menu for tonight:

Things you can eat while watching the basketball games:

Burgers, cheeseburgers, bbq chicken wings, sloppy joes, fries, potato chips, and other snacks

Desserts:

Chocolate brownies, cherry cheesecake, hot fudge cake, hot fudge sundaes

Everyone enjoy your evening, hope your picks win, so they can continue in the tournament and take care.

Have my 18volt battery for my Worx "trimmer" on charge, and it really does charge back up quickly.  So i'm in here taking a break from the "Summer" heat....Trying to "edge" my concrete driveway.  The "non Winter", must have allowed the grass / roots to continue to grow.  And grow it did...out over the edge of the concrete.

I've never run the battery down before in normal trimming / edging around our place.  But the grass roots seem to be adhered right to the concrete, and it's taking forever to get this task finished.  70' driveway.

If this weather performance of the past month and beyond or so, continue....It's going to be a lengthy Summer.

I'd be rooting for Cincy, too, albeit more because Ohio State is an arch-rival of my favored Michigan.

Sounds like MC had an interesting blinky light convention - and even contributed a couple of his own.  I attend those meetings on an all-too-regular basis...

Getting ready to pitch the railroad at an outdoor show.  Should be interesting!

Good Morning Railfans!

Another seasonal day today and then summer kicks in early as we head towards 80F by Monday; YUK!

More NCAA Basketball action tonight, I wonder how much worse my picks will be this round but hey I only but about 5 minutes of thought into it and I still have Kentucky winning so maybe my rank will get better compared to those that went with others whos #1 team is already out but picked better then me in Round 1 & 2...

The year was 1989...

The police told them to get off of the side of the freeway and use the road surface like everyone else.......

BowBowBow - We are truly in the presence of a master.....

(sure beats "it was a dark and stormy night" too; the following must be read with the appropriate Dudley Dooright theme music playing in the background:)

While all the fun is happening, Mud and a fellow field-dog were behind a guardrail digging out the end of a concrete pipe that had silted-in so it could be located for a highway redesign survey....Our trucks, with three flashing yellow lights ea and regular flashers "on" are in barrow ditch behind us, totally off the road.

(1) Highway patrol (CSHP) goes past us, lights on, pulls to the shoulder down the hill from us and gets the two stoooopid teen boys off the road.

(2) Southbound traffic, already slowing down to avoid the knuckleheads, slows down even more.

(3) Toyota Camry rear ends pickup and empty car trailer in #1 lane (LH lane closest to median) with a bang tearing front bumper off car at which time field dog and mudchicken look up

(4) just in time to see another car, not slowing down, strike the Camry from the rear and disappear into a cloud of flying dirt in the median and partially roll over.

(5) CSHP patrolman, lights and siren on, makes two knucklehead teens sit on guardrail where he stopped them and backs up the shoulder and gets over to protect the wreck. Mud and field dog get up and out of the hole they dug ...and had so quickly had crawled into.

(6) CSHP invites two of his friends to come along with the El Paso County Sherriff and the local ambulance company for a flashing light convention.

(7)CSHP tends to the drivers in the damaged/disabled vehicles. Meanwhile passing traffic avoids the wreck slowly by slaloming through all the carnage, using the shoulder closest to us in the process.

(8) One of the two knuckleheads decides to flee and runs west over the 1978 abandoned ATSF embankment and onto the grounds of the Air Force Academy.

(9) CSHP puts other knucklehead in back of cruiser, comes back to us and asks if we saw where fleeing knuclehead went. Observant surveyors that we are, we happily point in the appropriate direction. Off they go.

(10) CSHP comes back through a little later. Military police catch fleeing knucklehead on academy grounds - Guess who now has a federal criminal record?Laugh

We go back to our regularly scheduled drudgery.....

Ed - take heart.  The cafe is always safe.

That is the same tree service we have doing the work here this week.  I was up above the grinder (2nd floor) and watched the size of some of the trunk parts they put in there.  The chipper barely even made a noise and they were gone!

Good Thursday morning everyone.  We had an absolutely gorgeous day yesterday.  Our high was 85 degrees.  Tomorrow and through part of next week, we'll be back to highs in the 70s, so no more summer weather in the spring time. We spent a lot of time outside yesterday, just enjoying the beautiful weather.  Walt even got out his bike, and did a little bit of rail fanning.  Our projected high today should be about 82 degrees, and the rain showers will be in somewhere between 2 and 5 p.m.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the warmer bar.

Everyone enjoy your morning (I may even try to take a good walk later this morning), take care and see you all later.  Can hardly wait for mudchicken to come back in and finish his story.

While waiting on Sir Chicken, I had a fun day today and didn't have to leave the house.

They are doing a full block of tree trimming on our street and the street just south of us.  They cut down several trees that are too close to the overhead wires (yes, we still have overheads) and trimmed others.  We lost one tree as did the 2 houses directly behind us (we are a double lot).  But I saw the trunks go into the wood chipper and they were either hollow or starting to rot.

Lots of noise; one young man swung from one tree to another prompting my neighbor (that I don't care for) to comment that he looked just like a monkey.  I thought he looked more like Tarzan.  See, we can't even agree on what's in trees!

But while it wasn't Tonka Toys, it was just as entertaining.  I am now left wondering about the size of the grinder in the chipper and how often it has to be replaced.  Maybe "Tree" will know?

(That's a groaner, ain't it!)

Got me curious, too...

Beautiful day here, and I spent most of it so far on the road.  Picked up our 'show kit' from Utica and stopped in Old Forge for some tourism material on the way home.

Had lunch there, too.  Never would have thought of making a "chicken salad melt," but it was pretty good.

Dozens of things to do.
