The dull roar Mooks will hear in about 12 hours is low flying feathers as da chicken blows through headed to tin-shoes almost backyard at Ames. This may be Lurch's last big harrah (replaced by a big sumo riceburner?)

Yes, Cannonball, I know, processes such as this have been in vogue for some time now.  Not much is designed to be repairable.  Just replace.  Trouble is...when the faulty item might be "X" dollars, and instead it's "fixed" by replacing the whole unit, and at a cost of "XXX" dollars...that is just a bit much.  And wasteful.

But we needed it to be replaced, so that's what one has done.

Ahhhh!  Nice to be home, in the house, out of the wind and cold.  Temps have been dropping all day.  Our high of 61 must have been right after midnight.  The rain hasn't made it in totally in our area yet, Joe, but it is coming.  They have had some storms to the southeast of us, heading northeast.  But what will be here in the next little bit (?) is coming from the northwest and the west.

Here is our menu for tonight:

Beef tips w/noodles, scalloped potatoes, garden salad or slaw;

Fried chicken w/your choice of mashed taters and milk gravy, green beans or broccoli w/butter sauce, choice of dinner rolls, homemade buttermilk biscuits or cornbread.

Produce went fairly well this morning, except, since we went inside the gym today, most of the people didn't know how to act, and forgot to follow the rules in getting their bags of produce:  potatoes, purple onions, strawberry milk, apples, choice of slaw mix or salad, and zucchini squash.

Hope you all have had a good day, will have a good evening, and take care.

Good Wednesday morning everyone.  Larry very good video!  Thank you so much for sharing it with us.  47 degrees with drizzle here in the Louisville area this morning.  Temp is only to go up five degrees today.  Supposed to be very breezy out later this morning and afternoon/evening.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the warmer/serving station.

Been sitting here at the puter, watching Little Mook and Little Mud playing on the front porch:  actually, they're wresting with each other.  What started the little scuffle?  Little Mook running around in circles, trying to catch her tail (a game she loves to play several times a day).

What would you all like for lunch/supper?  I'm thinking vegetable beef soup and minestrone soup, with maybe some sub sandwiches.    What do you all think?

Just finished making the vegetable beef soup.  It is now on the warmer/serving station, along with freshly baked cornbread, and there's also chicken & dumplings, with enough broth to make it worthwile putting it into a bowl.

Also think we have gotten the printer back.  Getting ready to try to print out something, and see if it works.

Mudchicken, I like that movie, Christine.  Let me see if I'm correct:  that was written by Steven King?  If so, that is the only thing he has written that I like.    Wouldn't mind seeing that movie again.

Well , I thought I should drop by, seeing as I haven't been in since September 24. I think Tom described my situation lately pretty well. I have only been getting around at somewhere between 0.66 and 0.75 of normal speed. Lots of general aches and pains along with some specific really sore places. I received a cortico-steroid shot in my shoulder yesterday, and I am only now just feeling better after the effects of that.

Weather wise, it hasn't been all that bad since I last posted. Temps ranging from the high seventies to a couple of degrees below freezing. There has been some rain, but we still have no snow on the ground.

Not much new railway news lately, but a week ago two different semi's went under railway bridges and damaged them. One was a concrete bridge and some concrete fell away and exposed the rebar underneath. But in the other incident at Lloydminister, SK,  an excavator on a lowboy flatdeck knocked a CP girder bridge right off of its' pilings, and it fell down onto the trailer, just behind the cab. There were no injuries, but there is a BIG damage bill!

Glad to be back.

Bruce

WAKE UP. Good morning everyone. Biscuits are done. Sausage gravy & biscuits are the feature this morning. Coffee & orange juice are ready to go. The World Series game was great. Go Cardinals. The fans were dressed up in their finest winter coats. They seemed real happy though.

Good Thursday morning everyone.  And a BIG Welcome Back to Bruce and Bob!! Bob, the breakfast looks great.  Thank you for fixing breakfast.

Haven't looked at the TV this morning, for the local news or anything; but according to the computer, our current temp is 43 degrees, with light rain, and gusty winds 30 to 40 mph again today.  We went 13 days without a drop of rain, so guess we'll now get 13 days of light rain falling?  For our high today, we may see 51 degrees.

Everyone have  good day, keep warm and dry, if you're getting rain like Ky., take care and see you all later.

Once again, welcome back to Bruce and Bob!

Bruce - I saw pictures of the Lloydminister SK bridge aftermath.  Wonder if they ever found the driver's head....he obviously wasn't wearing one or maybe it was on the seat next to him.  If he had been, his boss would have ripped it off....

Major damage and $$$$$.

30 here and will be sunny as soon as the sun arrives.  But no north winds today, so will be a nice fall day @ 50.

I will have a fur coat & mittens for breakfast.  Maybe toast and coffee later when I find my finners.

Heading out on the pack mule to town for supplies and annual flu shots.

And did the "older" generation happen to notice the mixed feelings yesterday - SS is getting a 3.6 % raise and also a rise in the health premiums?  Seems like that has always been the way business has paid employees - here's a raise;  oh, and you will notice it is just enough to cover the raises in parking and health insurance?  You will have to deal with the increase in groceries, gasoline, property taxes, rent, etc as usual.

Don't spend it all at the gumball machine!

Here is our menu for tonight:  The leftovers from last night:

Beef tips w/noodles, scalloped potatoes, garden salad or slaw;

Fried chicken w/your choice of mashed taters and milk gravy, green beans or broccoli w/butter sauce, choice of dinner rolls, homemade buttermilk biscuits or cornbread.

Well, finally made it to the library today, returned my old books, and got a fresh supply.  We even coached Little Mookie into the house this morning.  Of course, that was after we couldn't take listening to her meowing, and climbing half way up the security door!  She stayed content to be in the house for a couple of hours, then she started meowing to go back outside.  Guess we'll probably go through the whole scenario again in the morning, as we're to get down until to upper 30s tonight/in the morning.

Everyone enjoy your supper/dinner, have good evening and take care.

Hello again. We have some nasty looking weather coming in tonight. It is 36° with a windchill of 28°. Before this front came through, like Mookie, I also got my annual flu shot today.

And for those that requested them, I found some photo's of the Lloydminister, SK bridge wreck from the nearest city paper, the Saskatoon StarPhoenix:

http://www.thestarphoenix.com/news/Reader+photos+Lloydminster+rail+bridge+collapse/5539236/story.html?cid=megadrop_story

I also wanted to get back to the discussion about reliability of vehicles, and how it is hard to make generalizations. A bit of family lore. My Grandfather and then my Uncle worked for the Eastern Irrigation District, near Brooks, AB, as Ditchriders. This job entailed driving around in pickups turning on and off the water to the farmers in their area. They traveled about 20,000 miles per year, almost entirely on gravel roads and field trails. The EID was broken down into five divisions with from four to six Ditchriders per division. It would work out that by trading in five or six old trucks per year, each Ditchrider would get a new truck about every fifth year. The best of the old trucks turned in wouldn't be traded in, but instead kept as a spare truck in the HQ yard in Brooks.

From a 1956 International through to a 1982 GMC, EVERY truck turned in by my Grandfather and Uncle became the spare truck for the following year. In fact, in either 1977 or 78, all of the trucks turned in were in such bad shape that my Uncle's truck became the spare truck for two years in a row! We are talking about one Ford, one Dodge, the cornbinder, and the rest were GMC's. The trucks were all the same each year, so how it is driven and maintained has a great deal to do with the alleged reliability of any one model or year. In our family we have always though it was more the man than the machine.

I guess that is all for now.

Bruce

Good Friday morning everyone.  41 degrees here in Louisville right now.  Think we're supposed to get up to about 60 degrees for a high this afternoon.

Gee Joe, when I went to the library yesterday, I didn't get to hear any scary stories:  bummer. Sad

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer/serving station this morning:  bacon, sausage, biscuits, eggs, toast, sausage gravy.

Everyone enjoy your breakfast, have a good morning, take care, and I'll see you all later.

Morning CW! Biscuts and gravey are good this morning!

What a fridigid morning it is. I think it was in the upper 40's with a nice 25 mph wind whipping across the countryside. I thonk that fall is upon us.

Have a good day all!

Going to stay home today and play domestic goddess, but tomorrow and Sunday, will be out - 70's both days.  Only 30 this morning, but the sun looks very nice.

Must include wreaking havoc on Houston Ed's e-mail.  Seems it is a talent I have that I didn't know I had.

....Finally, sunshine...!  The first this week.  Well, since Monday.  We've had a big Low spinning on top of us all that time, and now it's finally moved on.  My rain gauge had 3" accumumated in it for those several days.  And some areas were really treated to some nasty winds.  Here it was just windy {maybe up to 45 mph or so}....no damage that I know of.

40 degrees at 7 here this morning, and still only 45.  I know Jen's 70s are on the way and we'll be glad to see some of it.

Since a major servicing of my tractor / mower, I've been waiting for the rain to stop so I can get to work on the lawn mowing and mulching.

If it's to be today, we'll wait for all the warmup we'll see by later this afternoon.  If not today, certainly tomorrow.

The Ohio wild animal incident was the bad side of people trying to keep wild animals in captivity.  In this specific case, it was somewhat more involved than just keeping some "pets"....It shouldn't be allowed.
