Well, I finally made it back in here today.  Had to go pickup my BP meds this morning (  I'm all set for the next 12 weeks.  Larry, Quentin, we've been getting rain off and on most of the day.  Only one really good downpour, and that was between 6:30 and 7:00 this morning, after Sarah left for work.

For supper tonight:  hamburgers/cheeseburgers, fries (curly and regular), garden salad or slaw and carrot sticks.

Dessert:  Yellow cake w/chocolate icing (ice cream optional)

Everyone have a good evening, take care, if you're in the areas getting rain, the rest of you, take care, also.  Don't know if I'll be making it back in tonight, so see you all in the a.m.

Good Friday morning everyone.  53 degrees here in Louisville this morning, going for a high in the mid 60s or so.

Tom, I think there are several of us on the forums, who agree with you on a better way to grow old.  I'm getting more and more aches and pains in my legs almost every day.  Last night, I was in bed before 9:30.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast.

Hope you all have a good morning, and everyone take care.

....Our morning is sunny and cool.  A few minutes ago I noted it was 52 degrees, and to reach into the low to mid 60's today.

Rain gauge showed .55" of rain fell yesterday.

Been consulting mah crystal ball:  weather for winter looks like Texas and Florida for the masses!

Let's see - Mudchix (CO) snow; Texas mild; CW - you will ice skate all winter; Tree - lights out and shovel in the dark; Tom - you should be just blah; Q - you don't want to know & Joe - well you and I will be in igloos most of the season.  Kansas is looking pretty good to me!  You don't have anywhere to go because you will be surrounded on all sides by .....  winter.

Off to bury mah crystal ball.  Don't want to look any further.

Mook, glad you've consulted your crystal ball:  all I have are 2 almanacs, and I haven't gotten beyond mid October, in looking at the weather predictions.  Glad that Sarah got me a pair of boots last winter:  I'll probably be living in them again this year, whenever I go outside. Guess I'd better be learning how to ice skate.Embarrassed

For those who prefer Friday Fish Fry, everything is fixed and on the warmer/serving station.

For those who prefer something else:

1.  Minestroni soup w/your choice of crackers or cornbread

2.  Italian spaghetti w/garden salad or Caesar salad and your choice of garlic bread, plain bread sticks, or garlic Texas toast

For Dessert:  Just finished making from scratch, baking and icing a Yellow cake w/made from scratch chocolate icing. We also have the regular list of other cakes, pies and cobblers.  (Yep, I've been a busy little beaver in the kitchen this morning.)Sigh

Everyone enjoy your afternoon, take care and will try to make it back in later.

.....Well, if we don't want to know....We'll just hibernate.  Not thinking of going to Florida....Not interested anymore...Snakes are taking over that spot.

Today, besides blowing leaves in all directions....It's trying to act like Winter, but not having much success.  Sun is shining most of the time and temps in the 60's.  But the wind is bothersome.

For the first time since Monday, I have seen the sun.  It's still there.....

Time to relax.....

Oh Randy - you are in an even better position than Quentin and me!  We are both kind of on the edges of what could be a really miserable winter.  But Wisconsin, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, most of Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio & Indiana - well, "they" say "worst of winter snow and cold".

And if you don't like that, go further south around CW and you can have tons of ice and not a lot of snow.  You might want to consider a vacation to Texas until spring?  And we were doing so well with the wonderful spring/fall weather!

"Average temps.....Very white and wet"......Just looked for 2011-2012 weather outlook, and the above is stated in the current Farmers Almanac.

Guess if we'd get that, it could be worse.

Sorry got back from the Dealership repair shop and want to SCREAM.  Wife has been complaining about a few issues and well finally were able to get it in.  Here is the Short list of Problems they found.  Oil pan leaking like a sieve Down a quart in 500 miles.  They topped it off and told me to keep an eye on it which I am and have been.  Found a Crack in the Rt frt Control arm were the Bushings mount in it.  They had to Weld that up so the car was drivable.  Both Frt Hubs are Leaking and they are Sealed Bearings.  The Entire Insterument Cluster also has to be changed out since today the Fuel gauge on it decided that it would be fun to snap off the Needle for the Fuel gauge.

Best part is they found more and the Ext Warrenty Comapny wants to inspect the van before they Auth the repairs I asked the Service Manager what they found and he goes it might be enough that they Scrap the car.  I was like WTF I can not be without a car.  If so they better pay off my loan.  That is next Thurs so wish me LUCK.

Ed:  They sure aren't building anything like they used to, we are having a few quality issues with our batch of Kenworth T700s, they forgot to put oil in the batch of A/C compressors they put in our trucks.  Surprisingly, the powertrain is not an issue, it's everything else.....

Welcome back everyone.  We have beautiful sunshine, supposed to get up to 80 degrees this afternoon.  The only down to today, is the breeze.  Will be gusting between 25 and 35 mph at times today.  Makes it a little cool when the wind gusts come up.

Here is our Sunday Dinner menu for the rest of the afternoon/evening:

1.  Hawaiian pizza, in honor of our birthday man, Larry (Tree 68)

2.  Grilling on a large George Forman Grill  and a propane gas grill (don't want any fires popping up using a charcoal grill today!):  steak, pork chops, chicken, brats, burgers, cheeseburgers and hot dogs

Side dishes:  baked beans, corn on the cob, potato salad, German potato salad, cole slaw, chips (potato, Dorritos, Cheetos, etc.)

Desserts:  Yellow cake w/chocolate frosting, chocolate cheesecake, strawberry cheesecake;  ice cream, pineapple upside down cake and peach cobbler.

Everyone have a safe afternoon, take care and enjoy the beautiful sunshine.

Yep, we're up and running again....Not as much wind today, and some sunshine, and 66 degrees {outside}, as we left the church.

Headed to Ruby Tuesday for Sunday meal.

Hope to beat any later rain so I can mow / mulch leaves. Dealer coming for tractor to do special service deal....

Ed, I really wonder about the construction of cars in the last few years. We did have trouble with a 1983 Park Avenue after about four years--the catalytic converter failed, but it was covered under its warranty. Our 1985 LeSabre wore its airconditioner compressor out in about twenty years, and I had to have the gas supply system that is in the tank replaced abut the same time.

This year, our 2002 LeSabre (with only about 50,000 miles on it) has had to have extensive work on the cooling system done, and the engine mounts replaced. There have been some other things that I had nevered worried bout in anyother car, but the details are not currently in mymemory.

I drove a 1967 Biscayne for eight years and 125,000 miles, and it had needed no heavy repair at all.

....Automobiles.   I believe they are much more reliable and capable now than several decades ago.  But if one does have one that gives trouble it will cost much more to have it put back in order.  {If out of warranty}.

Years ago, 50,000 miles was somewhat of a reach with many automobiles, and now 100,000 is somewhat normal if the proper care and use is provided for it.

Overdrive transmissions allow engines to turn much less RPM's traveling down the road....and the interstate, hence, much less wear on it's internal parts, for each given mile.  Much improvement in lubricating oils too....and better yet...synthetic oils.

Many suspension parts are now able to go longer mileage too and without much care....Chassis lube was necessary...{and many more fittings to lube}. every 1,000 miles,  One example:  Gas filled shocks vers. shocks of  two decades ago last much  longer, and do a better job.

Even radial tires are capable of much more mileage than tires of the bias ply of some decades ago....and safer too.

The list goes on and on.  I know, lots of plastic and what looks like short cuts in designs...But overall, today's automobiles will serve for much longer miles / time than cars we might have had decades ago.

Of course we have to say there are exceptions to everything....but I'm considering, overall.

....I put 67,000 miles on a 1949 Chevy 4-door Fleetllne in 23 months.  Uncle Sam wanted me then,  It was really a good car.  And while I was gone...

The "Southern Car Buyers" purchased it, {in Pennsylvania}, and pulled another car with it...down to one of the Carolina's back then.

As I mentioned in  my earlier post...We have exceptions.

Reading Sunday paper when some weather announces it's arrival with a few flashes and rumbles.

Check radar - nice little line forming up as it comes off the lake and passing right over us.

As I'm looking at it on the computer I hear the rain get harder - literally.  Checking outside I see what looks like BB sized hail on the driveway.  A few seconds later there's definitely hail on the driveway - it's covered.

Still some bumps and rumbles - looks like it could go on for a while.

Wet weekend on the pumpkin patch (and in town with my visitors).  Good thing we've got a shelter there (a lawn canopy, with sides) and heat.  Thought we were through with it by mid-day Sunday, but the last trip of the day brought more rain, including while we were breaking down after the train left to return to Thendara.

I hope it's nicer next weekend!

Good Monday morning everyone.  Larry, sounds like you had a fairly good day for your birthday yesterday, and got to share it with someone who also had a b-day yesterday.

Our temp is 59 degrees this morning, with cloudy skies.  High will be around 70, then the temps will drop tomorrow, with a high in the upper 50s, and down into the upper 30s, low 40s tomorrow night.

Coffee is ready, along with OJ, OJ-tangerine, pineapple, apple and grape juices.  Plenty of hot water for our hot tea drinkers, hot cider, hot chocolate, and whatever pop/soft drink you might want for your morning pick-me-up.  On the warmer/serving station this morning:  bacon, sausage links & patties, eggs, toast, and assorted jams, jellies/preserves/marmalades.

Everyone have a good morning, and if anyone has any meal requests for today, please let me know.  Take care, and see you all later.

....The crowd seems to be getting smaller...??  We have a nice morning, but cool.  40's.  Probably into the 60's later today, but plenty of sunshine.

John Deere, pick up fellow, was here earlier {very}, this morning, and picked up my tractor for some major tune up and service.  Had it parked right near the front door of our home, under the wide overhang, and they got it without our extremely sensitive watch dog hearing them...!  That would be Ella....in the Avatar.

Nor did either I or Jean hear anything.  And just had a call from J D and it was them that picked it up....I was shocked, that maybe someone else "picked it up", but every thing is ok.  Except what it will cost....

Quentin, repair costs are almost always  a shocker to the human's ears, isn't it?   Such is life, I reckon.

Here is our menu for the rest of the afternoon:

Beef stew w/cornbread and leftovers from Sunday Dinner.

Not feeling quite up to par today, tummy is acting up and deciding to be a pain.  Everyone have a good afternoon and take care.

....Yes, C W....Today's many products are not made to "repair"....instead of just putting "in a new bearing", no...we replace the whole electric clutch for hundreds of dollars.  That's one reason it's expensive.

Good Tuesday morning everyone.  Very chilly here in Louisville this morning, with a temp in the low 50s, and breezy.  Rain  chances get higher as the day goes on.  May see a few sprinkles this morning, but will probably pick up towards afternoon and evening.

Yes, Quentin, in the world today, people (businesses) tend to have the philosophy of "Let's not make parts for these machines:  that way, we can get these idiots to buy a completely new, more expensive model.  And the extra parts we do make, we'll charge them and arm and a leg for them."  Getting off my SoapBox now.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready to go.  And breakfast is on the warmer/serving station.

Everyone have a good morning, take care and I'll see you all sometime later this afternoon.  Have a few errands to run, after I get through with Tuesday Produce this morning.
