Checked the weather station at our fire station when I went after the mail.  It showed -31F around 5AM...

All the way up to -11.5F right now (almost 11AM)...

The Curling game yesterday turned out to be something of a dud, entertainment wise, and folks on The Sports Network forum seem to agree with me.

While it can have its nailbiting moments, I've never thought of curling as being particularly exciting...  But some people say that about baseball, too.

Good morning, 20°F right now, up to 39°F later, with more wind and a few clouds. Considering it was -15°F last Sunday when I went out for my paper, and it is only the last week of January, I am sitting here waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I read where Pittsburgh and Green Bay won their respective games. Hope that makes everyone happy. The Curling game yesterday turned out to be something of a dud, entertainment wise, and folks on The Sports Network forum seem to agree with me.

Up at my mother's place last night, and I taught her how to use the Bosch Tassimo coffee maker she got for Christmas. The one with the little disc's that you put in the machine and it makes a single cup of coffee at a time. A persnickety looking thing with flimsy looking plastic parts inside, but it works quite well. I made myself a cup of Nabob coffee, and it seemed to have so much caffeine in it that I said to Mom that she probably shouldn't be making any Starbucks Coffee with it, as she would probably start doing cartwheels across the living room! Not recommended for 81 year olds!

Altogether interesting as I can remember when I was very young seeing Mom and Dad heating water for coffee on our coal stove.

Everyone have a good day.

Bruce

It appears we bottomed out at around -25F overnight.  All the reports I'm seeing seem to confirm that.

The home weather station, which wimps out at -22F is just now showing -21.8F, so we're warming up.  A little.  We didn't make it above zero yesterday.

Gotta finish phase II of yesterday's project, and head for the fabric store for the next project.

Good Monday morning everyone.  Roy, good to see you made it in yesterday evening.  Hope you have a great birthday Thursday, and we'll be thinking of you!

We have 26 degrees this morning, with a few flurries.  Our Jeff. Co. Public Schools are open, but outlying area schools are either closed, on a 1 hour delay or 2 hour delay.  I haven't heard what our high is to be today, but did hear that our high yesterday was 28 degrees.

Coffee is ready, along with all the other morning beverages.  Regular breakfast menu is ready and on the serving station.

On a sad note this morning, I saw that Jack LaLanne passed away yesterday at age 96.  I remember his TV exercise show.  Mama and I both exercised right along with him.  (Maybe I should have also had his healthy drinks!)

Everyone have a good morning, keep warm, take care and see you all later.

PL - welcome back!

The only robins we'll be seeing around here tonight will have "Swanson" on them.  Currently -25F and it isn't even bedtime...

Hello to the Cafe,

Word was recvd earlier today that my attendance and sitting in this establishmenet had been some what lacking.

Guilty as charged Miss Paula,

I do admit to my absence and promise that I will be here more often. Your e-mail did mention my singualr event of successfully completing another turn around the sun day this Thursday. I will unfortunatly be out of town but will return to sample some of your good fixins on Sunday next.

Your Lemon Ice box pie with Sumartan coffee is still the best.

Larry, I'm adding lima beans to today's menu.  That is also one of my favortie veggies, as well.

Well, even though I personally didn't see them, Walt saw about a half dozen robins in out front yard awhile ago!  Not even Groundhog Day, so wonder if this is a sign that we'll have an early Spring this year!!  Sure would be nice, with all this cold weather we've had since the end of September, early part of October.

Ooh!  Ooh!  Chicken and Dumplings!  Some nice, fresh sourdough bisquits on the side, maybe some lima beans (a favorite of mine).

It's almost 2pm, and we've struggled all the way up to -1.4F...

The bird feeders were pretty much empty, so after shovelling the driveway I headed out to fill them up (it takes about 4-5 gallons of sunflower seed to top them off if they're all empty).

When I got to the newest feeder, which I built so it would hold more seed - thus needing fewer refills, I found a sparrow had gotten inside.  Of course, the sight of a bit "thing" wearing a safety yellow coat didn't do a thing for its nerves.  Even after I opened the top it wasn't doing well on getting out, so it got a little boost from a gloved hand.

Back to projects.

Well, according to my homepage, we seem to be in a holding pattern:  still shows , at 1:38 p.m., 25 degrees for current temp.  Sun is shining, but not very brightly.

Here is our Sunday Dinner menu:

1.  Chicken and dumplings

2.  Sirloin or T-bone steaks w/ salad, steak fries, green bean casserole, broccoli w/cheese sauce

Here in Louisville, we're having #1.  I have the chicken on boiling.  In a few, I'll go back to the kitchen, and start mixing the dumpling dough, roll it out, poke it w/holes, cut it up and put it in a pot of cream of chicken soup.

Everyone have a good afternoon, take care, and keep warm.

Ditto most of Tree - we actually have an igloo on our temp avatar!  And it drifted.  I don't have a clue how much we received, but Omaha said 8" there.  Wish Willie would post here - would like to get info w/o having to go hunt it down, which on weekends is next to impossible.

But sun out now, so makes the day feel better.

We have an 8th day this week.  Today is ache day.  Ibuprophen hasn't kicked in yet, so even hair hurts.

Isn't it spring yet?  Sigh

Well, the sun is out, but that hasn't helped much.  It was -9F at dawn.  Now (almost 11) it's -7F.  At least I got the snow off the driveway so the sun can melt it dry.

The snowblower didn't want to start, though - just too cold.  I wanted to use it because the snow had drifted somewhat, which usually means heavy, but it wasn't too bad.

Off to other projects.

Good Morning, 36°F and a few clouds right now. Going up to 37°F this afternoon. Bit of a windchill though, W 14 mph now, dropping to W 9 mph later.

I should not have dropped by for pizza during the commercial break last night. When I got back, the whole dynamic of the game had changed, and what had been a clash of the titans turned out to be an unexciting finish won by the expected favourite. Today's $100,000 game will be a repeat of last years game between a team from Scotland, and the Canadian team that won the Gold Medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Hopefully it goes better than last year when the Canadian Skip made such a bizarre/bonehead shot to end the game that it made the news portion of the evening news, weather, and sports programs for the next two days. The poor man was on next weekends sports programs using slo-mo replays and tel-illustrators to defend his actions. When asked why he didn't take the shot Canadians from one end of the country to the other saw he should take, his only defense was "I didn't see the shot". Long in the future his obituary will say that he won a gold medal, and that he made that quote.

After the game I will go up to my mother's place for supper, and whatever household fix-up's she needs me to do.

Here's hoping all the right football teams (whoever you may be supporting) win, and I will see you again at this time tomorrow.

....The sun is up and shining on our cold landscape....10 degrees right now.  Possible snow flurries sometime today, is forecast, but right now, it certainly doesn't look like it anytime soon.

Soon...must get ready for our church activity and then somewhere for lunch...{Sunday meal} after that.  Snow on the ground, and will be until we see some warmer temps.

But, we're lucky we've not seen any big Winter weather storms give us much of a direct hit.  Others have had much worse...Even further south of us.  Some have come close to us, and hit us on the edge of it, but not head on....

Hope everyone on here is keeping warm and to have a good day.

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  Not quite as cold here in Louisville, this morning:  temps in the mid 20s; seems to be hanging right around 25 degrees.

Bruce, you're quite welcome on the pizza, and I hope you come in to join us here, whenever you can. And that goes for anyone else who may be lurking around!

Coffee, juices, and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  cold pizza for anyone who wants that for breakfast; bacon, eggs, biscuits & gravy, grits, oatmeal, toast, pancakes, and some fresh fruits.  There's even some bagels and bear claws, too.

Everyone have a good morning, take care going to Church, work, or wherever you are going this morning.

Mookie

Gotta go look up Calgary AB on my map.  I am pretty sure this is where the Stampede is held, but need to pinpoint it a little better than just up there somewhere.

Calgary, home of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, is at the base of the Eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains. It has been a Railway town from the get go, as this was where engines have been serviced and repaired before going west over the mountains. Only after WWII did the Oil & Gas Industry replace the CPR as the city's biggest employer.

One Curling game down, and one more this evening. First game was a last end upset, but I am not terribly unhappy.

Thank you for your interest Mookie.

Just in from a day out - It has been 6 days since we ventured out.  Just got the snow down to a liveable amount and now they are sending 5-8 more tonite and tomorrow.  Blah!  Supposed to be a milder winter.  Obviously mild doesn't mean less snow.

Tom - glad you are back.  The girls should be running errands for you since they should be so happy to have you back home.

Bruce - we don't get to watch too much curling, but have always found it enjoyable when we do see it.  Right now we are up to our necks in end of football and basketball.  Used to watch a lot of hockey, but even that isn't on that much any more.

Joe - cookie, again?  Dinner

Watched a few trains - they are really doing a lot of mow on a switch and some tracks.  This is the 2nd week they have been working on that area.  Either they are installing another lead or the derail really tore up the tracks.  Would love to walk down there and discuss it with them, but afraid they wouldn't be very happy to talk to me.  Need to get BNSF to install an info booth at our watch site.

Overcast {again}....but no new snow.  Not quite as cold this morning, but plenty cold:  7 above 0...Our little pup gets out in this stuff {a few inches of snow, in the morning, and we have to keep a close eye on her because if she {her feet}, get too cold, she just might stop, and we might have to run and get her.  She's a wee miniture Dachshund.

Possible snow flurries at times this weekend, but no big accumulation predicted.

Good Morning.

34°F right now with a few clouds, going up to a whopping 37°F with clear skies later today.

No new news on the other forums and websites I normally peruse every morning about the snow and avalanche situation to the west of us. I guess that means some things have at least started moving again.

Another good day of watching Curling on the TV for me today. A skins game. Four teams play two sudden death games today, and the winners play for $100,000 tomorrow. Nice work if you can get it!

Hope everyone has a good day.

Good Saturday morning everyone.  A very, very cold morning here in Louisville, with a temp of 6 degrees above zero!  When I heard the news at 6 a.m., our temp was 8 degrees.  High today will only be 27.  Normal high for this date is 41, 42 degrees.

Tom, I'm sorry to hear that you've been back in the hospital.  I hope everything will go well for you and you can stay home and get better.  Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Saturday brunch is on the serving station.

Everyone take care, keep warm, safe, and have a good day.

I just got back from a few days in the hospital. Some of the work from my previous stay came unraveled and had to be replaced. Sore and grumpy again for a while, but lemme be the first to say there is no place like home, with my own bed, desk and refrigerator. The girls have taken every opportunity to ignore me....

BTW - It's fitting that I replaced the jack o'lanterns with my current avatar - I was serving as the "patchmaster" for our pumpkin trains at the time.  That's my shelter in the background - rumored to be fully equipped with all the amenities of home.  More like a heater and a chair, both of which came in quite handy.
