Wow.....and our sunshine continues. We are really getting dry here, and not much chance for rain in 4 or 5 days.

Rain.
Did I mention that it's raining?
Firemen's parade lasted about two hours. In the rain. I rode EMS bike patrol. In the rain. At least I had a rain jacket.
Our EMS squad was stretched thin today with both the parade and a concert an a nearby racetrack. In the rain. Worse - the track is a "D.I.R.T" track, which actually means the track surface is clay. Ever dry to deal with wet clay? One of our rigs required a push to get it up the bank of the track. And everything is covered with mud. Including our crews.
And it doesn't look like the rain is ending any time soon...
At least my part is done (for now). Think I'll take a nap.

1. Quentin, you're right: things have been pretty slow in here this morning, into this afternoon.
2. Dale, I have no ides about the Navy. Maybe when Tom (grandpaw pettibone) gets in, he might be able to answer your question.
Here is our Sunday Dinner menu:
Roast beef w/potatoes & carrots, cole slaw, creamed corn and cornbread
My back is feeling a little bit better. Still not sure what I did to get it out of whack, unless it was cleaning the windows in the security door Wednesday afternoon. That's about the only thing I've done differently this week.
Everyone have a good afternoon, and take care.
Hey guys, another naval question has popped into my head, perhaps someone could answer this. One of my Dad's neighbors was a radioman in the Canadian Navy during WW II, and he was talking about the code books they had on the ships. Apparently they were very heavy, so they would sink if trouble arose. He said the covers were bound with lead to make them heavy. I was wondering if it was likely that the US Navy followed the same practice during the war. Thanks.
Hey Mookie, did you know Zager and Evans were from Lincoln?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhNM2K8cmU8
Was on here mid morning before going to church.....and now since returning, it appears this place is really slow today.
About ready to head out to Ruby Tuesday to meet friends for Sunday lunch. Still sunny and a bit humid and moderate temps still....
......We have sunshine this morning and starting out a bit earlier, it was 71 degrees and will run up into the 80's this afternoon. Right now, the windows are open, but later I'd wager we'll have to close up and do A/C.
Paula's mention of the pool activity.....It's been so many decades since I've even played pool....It would be nice to have the room on a good solid floor and have a genuine "good" pool table....at home. Many years ago, we certainly did like to play pool.
Funny, sometimes it would go surprisingly well and other times not so good....Hitting the corners of the pockets, etc....angle shots off and so on, but still fun.
Good Sunday morning everyone. Tom, thanks for taking care of breakfast this morning: had a bad afternoon, something wrong with my back. Spent most of the afternoon/evening mostly flat on my back on the couch. That was the only comfortable position I get find. It seems a little bit better this morning, back just aching now.
Walt and Sarah went and played pool last night. She wanted me to come along, but, like Walt said, the way my back was, I'd probably have trouble getting up into the Jeep. So I stayed home, on the couch, on my back. Finally made it up the steps about 10:15, and went to bed, with pillows to my back, while I laid on my side.
We have sunny skies with a current temp of 76 degrees. Going for a high about 89 to 91 degrees. Going to be a little muggy today, too.
Everyone have a good morning, take care going to Church, work, railfanning, whatever you'll be doing today.
Good Morning All! another hot one here in Alamo City: Partly cloudy. Hot. High 104F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.
Gonna get my errands done early and them I'm staying inside.
Enjoy your Sunday.

75 and heavy fog in Carolina this morning, headed for partly clear and 90 something. I would like to see some more rain.
OK, the diner is open for business. The usual items are on the buffet bar, and fountain drinks are available. Enjoy.

Finally, home after 13 hours of firematics. And some rain. No major mishaps, although several folks got rides to the hospital. Parade tomorrow, but apparently there is a high chance of rain, so may be pedalling and paddling simultaneously.
My waterbed summons.
ModelcarLooking forward to a...probably wild and exciting Nascar Cup race down at Bristol tonight.....Small track, and various banking and close quarters for all the cars generally gets tempers up and active. Half mile track.
Watched a little bit of that race myself, as my wife's cousin's son was in it (Landon Cassill, #71), but apparently he had already been knocked out of the race.

Saturday morning.....a fine rain at times. 77 degrees. We're expected to get some rain today, and we really need it. The hot temps have dried up growing things quickly.
So hope we do get some rain and the forecast is mostly sunny much of the week ahead....and almost to the 90's for highs. Today seems the only chance for several days ahead.

But our Sunday is to be warm and sunny.
Well - a decent couple of days on the railroad. We've been doing some extra heavy marketing of our mountain bike program - we'll haul you and your bike out into the middle of nowhere and let you find your way home....
The marketing must be working - we hauled more bikes (and their riders) in two days than we did all last year.
Race cars today - firematics for those are familiar. For those that aren't - races involving firemen and fast "trucks" used to carry special ladders and hose and do stuff that only faintly resembles what we do in real life. I'm doing EMS. The weather looks like it'll be mild, so the worst danger will be on the track.
Good Morning All:
Taking my car to the dealer for an oil change before it gets too hot out.
Today's Forecast for Alamo City: Partly cloudy. Hot. Heat index near 110F. High 102F. Winds S at 10 to 20 mph.
Enjoy your Saturday!
Good Saturday morning everyone. Starting out with 77 degrees, looking for a high of 91, and within the next little bit, we've got some tshowers heading our way from Ioway. Just a slight risk of some nasty stuff. Then we may get another round this afternoon, tonight.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready to go. On the serving station this morning: bagels, bear claws, cinnamon rolls, pancakes, waffles and whatever jelly, jam, preserves, syrup, you want on the pancakes or waffles.
Noticed that on the preseason football game, Cincinnati beat Philly. I don't know if Sarah knows the outcome yet, as I had already gone to bed before she got in from work last night.
Everyone have a good morning, and good day, and see you back in here this evening for our pizza fest. Take care, all.

DAN!
Modelcar ....A Raccoon can really do serious damage in a garage to a vehicle....Chew off radiator hose, and of course wiring....Heard the taste of anti-freeze is an incentive to get into such action, but then if they do, it most likely will be their demise, or a very sick animal.

mudchicken Mookie Feathers - stayed in rustic lodge in Wyo years ago. Windows open for night air and restaurant's garbage container right below 2nd story window. Did you know raccoon's can eat and sing at same time? Never heard it, but wonder if chickens can? Couldn't hear a thing over the growls and barks of the three tenors.

Believe it or not, that can happen around here in our urban neighborhood as well- the local raccoons hide either up in the tall trees or in the storm sewers during the day, and get into the trash during the night.
Our Friday Fish Fry is now under way, and will be replenished about every two hours, as needed:
FISH: Bass, catfish, cod, haddock, halibut, flounder, Shrimp (jumbo butterfly), Tilapia
SIDE DISHES: Baked beans, cole slaw, corn on the cob, mac & cheese, fries, hush puppies, deep fried breaded mushrooms
DESSERTS: Chocolate cake, yellow cake w/caramel icing, apple, blueberry, cherry, peach and pecan pies; blackberry, peach and strawberry cobblers. All served with ice cream
Sarah just got a call for work this afternoon-evening. Hostler hearder (sp?)
I was so tired this morning, didn't even make it through my morning emails. Went back to bed and sleep, re-awoke sometime after 10. And, belive it or not, feel like I could go back to sleep now.
Everyone have a good afternoon, and I'll see you all later. Mookie, hope you have enough breeze and trains to make trackside worthwhile this afternoon!
