Engineers don't go to the bathroom. They just blow up when they turn 40.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any
Sawtooth500So you're the engineer, doing a nice 60 down the rails, and nature calls. I know most loco's have a toilet, but do you stop the train and go? Give the reigns to the conductor while you go potty? Or something else? And I'm guessing if the conductor has to go, he can just do so while the train is in motion because he doesn't always have to be looking out the front, correct?
You open up the window.
RRKen You open up the window.
Or if you are born lucky, you open up the window on the opposite side of the cab....
MurrayUse a Pepsi bottle?
A pepsi bottle? That is way too small, I need a wide neck!

Stick yer a** out the window, some of us try to time it so that we hit a crossing.
Advice to railfans: never accept lemonade from a hogger.
just don't, ok?
I have to stop, take reading material and my Iphone too.

Just watch for the guy hooping up orders... *smack*
Not if you're a MotorMan....
Real engineers don't have that problem.
Sawtooth500I'm a pilot and in a small 4 seat airplane you use the pepsi bottle :)
Remind me to skip the complimentary pepsi on my next flight.

What railroad still runs on train orders?
I could have used a pepsi bottle at age 5 maybe.

The CN former BC lines.

Smartassed answers aside, most conductors today are dual qualified and can, if qualified and if he wants to, take the controls. Otherwise you just have to sweat it out. Small craft airplane pilots do have bottles called "flight extenders"; I wonder if railroad engineers have them too....
RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.
Going by the rules, you stop your train, and use the head. I don't have that many situations where a conductor is also engineer qualified, or has a current ticket.
This is a major problem for female train watchers. We tend to stay fairly close to civilization.
She who has no signature! cinscocom-tmw

I use this to my advantage if the head requires service or is unsanitary, I call a yard cab to take me to the depot. Either they service it, or face delays. I have made it very clear before, I am not paid to walk in sewage for any reason!
Presidential 42 is going over my house.

Unless you have the stats to back that up, I'd be careful saying "most conductors".

He doesn't...He's making that up.
I know we who do not operate trains 1' to 1' Scale, must rely on the old saying" The Engineer is always right!"
{ Except maybe if talking about him to his wife!}
If this thread lasts much longer it will have to renamed after Eleanor R.
Was Eleanor as funny as Zug or RRKen ????????????
