VIA Rail Canada's CANADIAN second used to be their OCEAN but that train now operated with Renaissance cars.
Best train in North America for someone confined to Wheel Chair is AMTRAK COAST STARLIGHT service and crew goes above and beyond call of duty

Right now it is a close tie between Coast Starlight and Acela, but for the past 25 years we's have to say the Southern's Crescent and the Rio Grande Zephyr.

IMO, There hasn't been a decent passenger train in the past 40 or more years!

I rode the Coast Starlight before things really went downhill and the Pacific Parlor Car service was great. The Crescent had terrific food. The California Zephyr had wonderful scenery. The Southwest Chief is a real party train...folks hooking up left and right. .. some got thrown off. The most interesting was the overnight service between Toronto and Montreal...I think is was called Constellation. Using the older, restored equipment was a step back in time, and comfortable...a dome, a drink and the full moon on the lake at midnight...doesn't get much better. All had downsides...but I had fun...ride 'em while you can.

I would agree with you but for one small exception, the Southern Cresent Limited between New Orleans and Washington and on to New York by L&N, A&WP, Southern and the Pennsy. There is a Saying around the old Southern Men and Women, "There is but one railroad, Southen is its name and the Cresent be her Train." Other than that I have to agree with you[swg]

Well I think the Auto Train wins for me, I've never rode on it but that is the train most people think when you mention Amtrak.

Today, Acela is the best.... Amtrak offers..... Of course, just about every light rail system built in America is almost an equal..... But, then again, outside Acela, Amtrak service is near rock bottom..... outside the Starlight's wine and cheese tasting, the rest of the jewels have been eliminated: the free chocolate chip cookies, chocolate fudge bars, the mints, and fresh fruit.....one used to get a sliced orange and/or sliced cantelope in the diner for breakfast.....today's Amtrak is fruit free in the diner unless you ask for the apple pie......

We've been riding AMTRAK for nearly 30 years. The best train we rode on was the pre-Superliner "Auto Train" (app 1989), with six sleepers, a full-length dome diner/lounge just for sleeping car passengers, and access to an old Vista-Dome one car in front of our sleeper! Plus, we purchased two connecting bedrooms on an old 10/4. Had a marvelous time!
