Yeah - we wore out the cylinders ages ago....

Sheesh - North Conway, NH made the weather channel for the snow it's going to get.  I'm in (actually near) North Conway tonight, getting ready to ride the Conway Scenic's Steam Photo Special tomorrow.  Looks like you're going to see a lot of snowy pictures.  There's a bus coming out of Boston loaded with fans to ride - hopefully the weather won't hold them up.

My ride over from NYS was snowy - and almost all on "regular" roads.  Note to Vermont - your roads need some attention.

One highlight along the way, though, was running alongside the roadbed of the St Johnsbury and Lamoille County, which is now a trail for the most part.  Even saw their covered bridge!  The roadbed runs roughly parallel to VT15 and US2 for quite a way.

Gotta make sure the cameras are ready for tomorrow.

Good Saturday morning, all!  Bob, you did a fantastic job on the biscuits & gravy.  Thank you, very much.  I've got the sausages, bacon, and scrambled eggs ready to go on the Food Station (thanks again, Dan!)

We have a temp of 12 degrees this morning, and will get up to 23, maybe 24 today.  And these bitter cold temps are to be with us most of next week.

Everyone have a great day, keep very warm, stay safe and take care.

Good morning. 26 degrees in Carolina at sunrise. I have been up most of the night on the wireless, chasing some deaf guy in New Caledonia. I guess this one will take several nights to accomplish. Paula and Bob, thanks for breakfast and everyone have a great day

Good Morning--

Kinda snowsqually this morn. Had the blower out twice last night/this morning---musta cleared about 16" of the stuff off the driveway. Went with neighbour to do the elderly ladies homes as well---probably going to have to do this again later as they're calling for about another 12-16" by tonight----Whistling It was snowing so hard that there was literally a whiteout from snow fall itself---with no blowing snow.

Got some survival food getting to try and get accomplished --all roads are now plowed but-----Whistling

Thanks for the breakfast and coffee---have a safe day if'n you're out doin' shopping

Morning all......

-3 out right now, supposed to get to 8 above today, with a stiff wind.  Glad the pickup is inside in a heated garage, would be a little tricky getting it running if it was outside today.

Bought a new desk for my room in the apartment, so set up a small test track to play with my new purchases, an Atlas SD35, and Athern Genesis F45s.  The Fs are already painted for Wisconsin Central, the SD35 will need paint and decals.  Luckily, got an airbrush for christmas, but unfortunately, the compressor that came with was damaged, still trying to get an answer from company (it's an off-brand).  Smokey, one of our two cats, loves to sit on top of the desk and look out the window, she does not know what to make of the trains, though.

Thanks for breakfast, see everyone later.....

Good morning! It's cold here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, my hometown may be one of the coldest spots in the country right now. Right now we have a temp of -33 degrees below 0, to say nothing of what the wind chill factor might be. I don't think I will leave my house at all today. Everyone stay warm!

Wow.....that's cold.  I've seen temps that cold, but not here.  This morning early, we were reading 12 degrees and calm.  Started with bright sunshine and then all of a sudden, we had a 5 min. snow shower....of very light dry stuff and now the sun is bright and really warm coming thru our south facing windows.  Actually, my chair sitting by the sliding glass door in the family room...{has a storm door too}, was getting too warm, had to move.

Just a skiff of snow overnight.   Everyone be careful and stay warm.

16" down and another 12"-16" on the way?  I'm jealous!  1 above and today I have 100% chance of dirty diapers!  Speaking of which, someone is waking up and I'd better GIT!

I won;t tell the temp in sunny AZ and spoil all the fun many of you are having (ha).

Being a native of CO I have experienced 30 + below and had to work in it as we had a ranch and farm with animals to care for.

The hours of sunshine are now increasing every day so have a positive attitude, it will be spring soon.

That's correct.....onward towards Spring.  Here, we've gained 11 min. of daylight in the evening, but for a few more days we're still losing some in the morning sun rise...But, it will stop and turn around in a few days and it too will be gaining suntime in the morning.  Must think of something positive this time of the year.   Right now, here....we're really enjoying a nice bright cloudless {now}, sky and sunshine.  Up to a bit beyond 15 degrees, but calm.

Yeah, we had a temp of 12 degrees above zero this morning; I saw on my puter's homepage, our temp got up to 25 today (wonder when that happened!) and it's now, at 5:56, 23 degrees outside.  I won't even look at what it's supposed to be down to by tomorrow morning!!  I don't even want to know.

Here's our Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:

1.  Canadian bacon

2.  Cheese w/extra cheese

3.  Goetta

4.  Hawaiian

5.  Pepperoni/mushroom

6.  Italian sausage

7.  Supreme

8.  (Especially if SactoGuy comes in) Italian sausage calzones (wonder if he left the forum entirely, or just too busy with other things to pop in ocassionally)

I think, if I can get the others to agree, I would like to get out the tape of A Hobo's Christmas and watch tonight.  We haven't seen that one for several years.

Everyone enjoy your pizzas, have a good evening, keep safe, stay warm and take care.

Ah, warmth.  Pizza sounds good, too.

The Mass Bay Railroad Enthusiasts (and a lot of "independent" railfans) filled six cars for their annual "Steam in the Snow" charter on the Conway Scenic.

The ride was nice, the six runbys (not counting the "second arrival" at the station) were great, but it wasn't exactly warm (although 25 isn't bad for winter in the White Mountains).  The wading through the snow for the runbys was the killer.

I haven't done anything with the pictures yet.  When I find out how they turned out, I'll put a few over in the lounge.  I shot some video, too, but I'm a real novice at processing that for the consumption of others.

Not to mention that I've got a seven hour (or so) drive tomorrow to get back home.

Hi all,

This has been a sad day for my family and me. We had to put our dog of 11 years down today. I really don’t even fell like eating. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I couldn’t stay in the room while they did It I fell awful for on staying in the room while they put him to sleep. I hope that Rex wouldn’t have been mad.

I might not get on tomorrow I don’t know.

Be safe

Justin, I sympathize with you. It is truly sad to have to part with a long-time friend who has taken your love and given you his in return. We know that the time may come when such a friend's suffering is too much for him to bear. Even when he does not tell you of his pain, you can see it in him. May God give you and your family the comfort you need at this time.

Justin, here is a little something which should give comfort to you and your family:

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.  When a pet dies - one that's been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.  There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.  There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable, fear and worry free.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and the vigor of youth.  Those who were abused, hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again just as we want to remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them - someone who had to be left behind.  That someone who was kind, gentle and loving.  That someone who took the extra step, stayed the extra minute, reached out and touched with love, even once.

The animals all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.  His bright eyes are intent, his eager body quivers.  Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.  The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look into the big, trusting eyes of your special love, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together. . . . . . . . . . . . .

Justin,

Several years ago we had to put our 20 year old cat to sleep, so I understand what you're going through. Hang in there!

The Rainbow Bridge is a beautiful piece. Thanks for posting it, Murray.

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  Justin, I'm so very sorry to hear about your beloved dog.  It is always so hard when you lose a four-legged loved one.  You're hurting now, but the pain will subside a little each day.  As Willy said, hang in there!

And Murray, thank you for posting Rainbow Bridge.

Coffee, juice, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are all ready.  On the food station this morning:  pancakes, waffles, turkey bacon, sausage (links & patties), scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk  biscuits w/sausage gravy.

Woke up this morning to a temp of 9 degrees, last I heard, it was down to 8, probably down to 7 or 6 above by now.  Everyone have a good morning, those going to Church, take care on the roadways.  That also goes for anyone traveling home from their holidays trips.

Remember the good old days? We got up early and went outside to see if the car would start. If not, then bring the battery into the house or put a heat lamp under the hood. We are going to early church today. I will pick up older sister because her car sits outside. Oh yea. I get to park in the handicapped spot when she rides with us.

Good Morning--

Got up early this morning and did the snowblower thing with the neighbour--got all the driveways and what not plowed out. We ended up with about another foot of the stuff so we're sitting with somewhat close to 2.5-3' of snow---and that snowsquall warning is still in effect for us'uns. Anybody want some?Whistling

I'm going to be staying close to home today----not much going on

It's official, the Fox river in Burlington has jammed and froze solid, 48 hrs ago it was open....

No temperature outside now, to head for a high of 10-15 today.  May venture out later for a Menards run to pick up some Homasote and Masonite for layout, parents also invited us over for dinner tonight, so will head over there later.

See everyone later.....

We have a bright, sunny, did I memtion cold.....Sunday morning.  Earlier, {don't know what it is right now}, our instrument indicated a 4.5 degrees outside.  That is not very warm, but we have no wind and that certainly helps.  The sunshine coming in the south windows is actually nice and warm.....

Earlier this fall I picked up a little product that might help a lot of individuals in these harsh weather times....{even though our vehicles are in the garage}, That is, a popular item {at least around here this season}, is a "power boosting unit".  Suppose they are indentified by different names, but it's a self contained, rechargeable battery {from house current}, and very portable....one can simply carry to an auto and connect it's battery cables to start a car that has been setting out in severe cold and with a battery too low to do said job.  Ours even has a little air compressor and short hose one can use for the other problems with autos...And a 12 vt. port to connect anything that you connect to a 12 vt. outlet in any auto.  Also a self contained light for some situation needing a bit of light to accomplish.

In our area, they seem to be a popular product and many big box stores have been putting excellent prices on them.  Roughly $30 to 50 dollars.

We got about 3 inches of snow overnight, as opposed to Barry's 3 feet. But, added to what fell in December, we have about 2 feet on the ground right now, which is a lot for Omaha. It looks like more is coming toward midweek.
