Minus nine this morning. I have to let the faucet drip in the master bath at night. A hearty breakfast is just what I need.

Good Monday morning, all.  Eolafan Jim, you are more than welcome in here, any and every time you want to come in!!

Larry, glad to know you made it home safely!

Coffee, juice, hot chocolate, hot water for tea are all ready.  Regular breakfast items are on the warmer/serving station, so everyone can help themselves.

For those of you who remember him, I talked with JHHtrainsplanes (Jim Haguewood) on New Year's Day.  He asked if several of you were still around, and I said you were.  He said to tell everyone "Hello" for him.

It was a long drive back home today.  That coastal storm that hit New England (where I was) followed me home, making for miserable visibility.  The roads were pretty bad in New Hampshire and most of Vermont, but I though I'd gotten a break when I crossed Lake Champlain - not much snow and the roads were pretty clear.  Then it closed in again and I fought it all the way home.

My eyes are the worst - the snow really flattens out the contrast, so you have to work to pick out stuff that would normally stand right out.

mmm mmm---know that one. When Audrey and I went out this morning to do our survival shopping we got stuck in white out conditions pretty much anywhere we went.Grumpy

We got another 8" of the white stuff so we are now well buried in snow---we live in the NW side of London so we got a heaping helping of squall activity. The amount of snow we got is now just about 3.5' almost 4'.

And it is still snowing out there-----I gotta go back out and do more snowblowing again ----Sigh

We're showing a temp right now, outside, of 24 degrees.  Even our sunshine isn't as bright as it was this morning.  Guess our temps will start slowly dropping, now.

Here's our Sunday Dinner menu:

1.  Turkey & dumplings (used turkey instead of chicken, this time)

2.  Italian spaghetti w/garlic Texas toast or garlic bread, and garden salad

Think I'll head into the kitchen and stir up a batch of sugar cookies for dessert.

Thanks CW, if it's OK with everybody I think I'll stay here for a while and enjoy the dinner CW has put out for us all.  I went over and got involved in the heated discussion about forum censorship but I think I'll take the 12F temps here in Chicago to that kind of heat any day (wow, did I say I'd take 12F...well, for a time anyhow).  Thanks for letting me in!

Feel free to stay as long as you want. There's some stuff I'd like to say about the general state of the forums these days, but if I know what's good for me, I'll keep my mouf shut.

Justin - I know exactly what you're going through.  I didn't think putting my 16yo "pound puppy" down would affect me as much as it did.

Well, The Forum finally decided to let me log in under my screen name; seems I've had a problem this week doing so; especially using Internet Explorer as the browser, I'm on FireFox now..just can't control the color or post any Similes.

Justin, Very Sorry to hear about the loss of Rex, I Know he meant a lot to You and your family.

Pets, even though they are family members in disguise, are some times our greatest friends, companions, listeners, etc., and it's very hard to bear  the loss of one of them. You'll be able to look back in later years and remember the companionship and fun you had together.

Over the years, I've had several pets to die, or have to be put down due to illness; I think a little part of me went with each one of them.

Murray, Thanks for posting "Rainbow Bridge", seems CW had to dig that one out last year for another Forum Member. One can only hope that after they're gone and cross the "Rainbow Bridge", that they will be remembered by their old friends and companions.

We got about 3 inches of snow overnight, as opposed to Barry's 3 feet. But, added to what fell in December, we have about 2 feet on the ground right now, which is a lot for Omaha. It looks like more is coming toward midweek.

We have a bright, sunny, did I memtion cold.....Sunday morning.  Earlier, {don't know what it is right now}, our instrument indicated a 4.5 degrees outside.  That is not very warm, but we have no wind and that certainly helps.  The sunshine coming in the south windows is actually nice and warm.....

Earlier this fall I picked up a little product that might help a lot of individuals in these harsh weather times....{even though our vehicles are in the garage}, That is, a popular item {at least around here this season}, is a "power boosting unit".  Suppose they are indentified by different names, but it's a self contained, rechargeable battery {from house current}, and very portable....one can simply carry to an auto and connect it's battery cables to start a car that has been setting out in severe cold and with a battery too low to do said job.  Ours even has a little air compressor and short hose one can use for the other problems with autos...And a 12 vt. port to connect anything that you connect to a 12 vt. outlet in any auto.  Also a self contained light for some situation needing a bit of light to accomplish.

In our area, they seem to be a popular product and many big box stores have been putting excellent prices on them.  Roughly $30 to 50 dollars.

It's official, the Fox river in Burlington has jammed and froze solid, 48 hrs ago it was open....

No temperature outside now, to head for a high of 10-15 today.  May venture out later for a Menards run to pick up some Homasote and Masonite for layout, parents also invited us over for dinner tonight, so will head over there later.

See everyone later.....

Good Morning--

Got up early this morning and did the snowblower thing with the neighbour--got all the driveways and what not plowed out. We ended up with about another foot of the stuff so we're sitting with somewhat close to 2.5-3' of snow---and that snowsquall warning is still in effect for us'uns. Anybody want some?Whistling

I'm going to be staying close to home today----not much going on

Have a good day people--Smile,Wink, & Grin

Remember the good old days? We got up early and went outside to see if the car would start. If not, then bring the battery into the house or put a heat lamp under the hood. We are going to early church today. I will pick up older sister because her car sits outside. Oh yea. I get to park in the handicapped spot when she rides with us.

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  Justin, I'm so very sorry to hear about your beloved dog.  It is always so hard when you lose a four-legged loved one.  You're hurting now, but the pain will subside a little each day.  As Willy said, hang in there!

And Murray, thank you for posting Rainbow Bridge.

Coffee, juice, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are all ready.  On the food station this morning:  pancakes, waffles, turkey bacon, sausage (links & patties), scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk  biscuits w/sausage gravy.

Woke up this morning to a temp of 9 degrees, last I heard, it was down to 8, probably down to 7 or 6 above by now.  Everyone have a good morning, those going to Church, take care on the roadways.  That also goes for anyone traveling home from their holidays trips.

This has been a sad day for my family and me. We had to put our dog of 11 years down today.

That is a sad happening for you and your family Justin with a long time pet....Our feelings go out for you.  Our family has had to do that twice in the past....It is a real hurt.  Long term pets are part of the family....Really.

Justin, here is a little something which should give comfort to you and your family:

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.  When a pet dies - one that's been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.  There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.  There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable, fear and worry free.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and the vigor of youth.  Those who were abused, hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again just as we want to remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them - someone who had to be left behind.  That someone who was kind, gentle and loving.  That someone who took the extra step, stayed the extra minute, reached out and touched with love, even once.

The animals all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.  His bright eyes are intent, his eager body quivers.  Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.  The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look into the big, trusting eyes of your special love, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together. . . . . . . . . . . . .

Justin, I sympathize with you. It is truly sad to have to part with a long-time friend who has taken your love and given you his in return. We know that the time may come when such a friend's suffering is too much for him to bear. Even when he does not tell you of his pain, you can see it in him. May God give you and your family the comfort you need at this time.

Hi all,

This has been a sad day for my family and me. We had to put our dog of 11 years down today. I really don’t even fell like eating. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I couldn’t stay in the room while they did It I fell awful for on staying in the room while they put him to sleep. I hope that Rex wouldn’t have been mad.

I might not get on tomorrow I don’t know.

Be safe

Ah, warmth.  Pizza sounds good, too.

The Mass Bay Railroad Enthusiasts (and a lot of "independent" railfans) filled six cars for their annual "Steam in the Snow" charter on the Conway Scenic.

The ride was nice, the six runbys (not counting the "second arrival" at the station) were great, but it wasn't exactly warm (although 25 isn't bad for winter in the White Mountains).  The wading through the snow for the runbys was the killer.

I haven't done anything with the pictures yet.  When I find out how they turned out, I'll put a few over in the lounge.  I shot some video, too, but I'm a real novice at processing that for the consumption of others.

Not to mention that I've got a seven hour (or so) drive tomorrow to get back home.

Yeah, we had a temp of 12 degrees above zero this morning; I saw on my puter's homepage, our temp got up to 25 today (wonder when that happened!) and it's now, at 5:56, 23 degrees outside.  I won't even look at what it's supposed to be down to by tomorrow morning!!  I don't even want to know.

Here's our Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:

1.  Canadian bacon

2.  Cheese w/extra cheese

3.  Goetta

4.  Hawaiian

5.  Pepperoni/mushroom

6.  Italian sausage

7.  Supreme

8.  (Especially if SactoGuy comes in) Italian sausage calzones (wonder if he left the forum entirely, or just too busy with other things to pop in ocassionally)

I think, if I can get the others to agree, I would like to get out the tape of A Hobo's Christmas and watch tonight.  We haven't seen that one for several years.

Everyone enjoy your pizzas, have a good evening, keep safe, stay warm and take care.

The hours of sunshine are now increasing every day so have a positive attitude, it will be spring soon.

That's correct.....onward towards Spring.  Here, we've gained 11 min. of daylight in the evening, but for a few more days we're still losing some in the morning sun rise...But, it will stop and turn around in a few days and it too will be gaining suntime in the morning.  Must think of something positive this time of the year.   Right now, here....we're really enjoying a nice bright cloudless {now}, sky and sunshine.  Up to a bit beyond 15 degrees, but calm.

Thanks. I needed some cheering up.
