Psst - Try adding my secret ingredient - Nestle's Mint Chips. Mix the regular chips and the mint chips about half and half in the cookies. Gives them a delightfully fresh taste!

Interesting story related to the big deluge on Friday- we were headed south on I-24 in southern Illinois Friday afternoon, and had just punched through one downpour. It was obvious that we were about to run into another one, and we were listening to a local station, when they cut in with a tornado warning for the county we had just crossed into. I decided to pull off and wait for the cell ahead to past to the east. As we exited the interchange for New Columbia, the rain was picking up, and along with it was plant material. RAINING FROM THE SKY. Green leaves from trees, and obviously not coming from the trees in the area. Needless to say, I'm glad we decided not to go through that cell. We heard later that there was a tornado touchdown several miles southwest of where we were. After waiting for half an hour, we headed on south and managed to avoid the storms, and spent the night in Chattanooga, which escaped the rain.
Good morning everyone. I've been up since 6:00 this morning and right now we have an outdoor temperature of 36 degrees, but we also have a clear sky, I could see the stars! It's supposed to be fairly nice here today, with the temperatur topping out at about 52 degrees around 4:00 PM. I just checked out the weather conditions for Louisville, Kentucky. It looks like Cherokee Woman and Locomutt are going to be pretty well socked in with rain today.
I wonder what's on the menu in the Diner for breakfast this morning? I've already got the coffee going and the orange juice has been mixed and is ready to pour.

You could stick two paws in one, but that would stretch one out, and make you walk funny besides....
Large band of rain lurking off to our west - part of that big front that's causing so much havoc. Some forecasts have it ruining part of the weekend, others the whole thing. At least I'll be riding on the train. There is something to be said for not having my rules test under my belt - I can stay in the cars, out of the rain, except when boarding and disembarking the passengers...
Our big seller this time of year is the fall colors, though, and wind and rain don't do much to help that.
Back to work...
Tree - good idea - I walk funny anyway - no one will notice!
Jay - I see you lurking out there - are you home now?

Made it back in good shape about 1:00pm yesterday. Now making progress on the backlog of two weeks chores. Still hope to have a trip report by the end of the day.

Yum, yum! That is GOOD spaghetti, the sauce is perfect!
The following story is true: When my Dad was in the U.S. Maritime Service (Merchant Marine) during World War II, he had a buddy on board his ship who was of Italian descent. One day these two sailors had shoreleave in Brooklyn, New York, and my Dad's buddy had invited my Dad home for dinner. His mother had served my Dad spaghetti, and my Dad liked the spaghetti sauce so much that she gave him her recipe. My mother used this same recipe for more than 50 years and it was handed down to me. This Italian family who gave my Dad their recipe for spaghetti sauce, as my Dad would later learn, owned a shoe repair business in Brooklyn. And this shoe repair business was nothing more than a front for oganized crime, and this Italian family was very much involved in the maffia in the Brooklyn area.

Reminds me of the book Woodswoman by Ann LaBastille, which I read for a local writers course at the community college.
In it she describes how she observed the first moon landing. Buck nekkid on the shore of an Adirondack lake. Not that the astronauts could see anything, but it was the thought that counted...
I don't expect any ISS versions of the annual mooning of the Amtrak train in CA, however...
Tree, I might have seen the backside of that line of weather you were describing. There was a spectacular cloud formation in our eastern sky this morning (I have to go to work to see "big sky"--too many trees around home). I suspect that it was due more to the relatively warm waters of Lake Michigan, but I watched thunderheads form over the course of the day, and I think the whole shebang was moving east. On second thought, you were probably too far north for what I saw.
I got sprinkled on the way home from work today--but the radar on the Weather Channel showed nothing in the area (in spite of the clouds). I know it was rain--I wasn't under any trees when I was hit!
Jay and Brian, we're going to be up to our ears in foam in a little more than a week! Join the fun Saturday, if you can. Hope you can make it, too, CopCar Chris!
SJ, we're due for some of that mitten weather tonight. Not sure if I'm biking tomorrow yet, but if I do, I'll have my usual half-gloves on. Got to keep the fingers free for writing down exciting observations (and the rubber grips keep them from sticking to the handlebars!).

That line runs all the way down the country, and didn't actually get here until well after noon, so you may not have seen our stuff, specifically, but you probably saw the same line. I've been surprised by how far away I've seen thunderheads.
Looks like Sarah is under the gun as I write this. Severe T'storm watch for her area, and some angry looking red on the radar bearing down...

You guys wouldn't want to make a short excursion over to Boone, would you? It's about halfway between us, with some nice attractions (Kate Shelley, B&SV), and we might even get a couple more forum members to join the fun there (jeffhergert comes to mind).

An excursion to Boone depends entirely on what Mookie and the other "forum elders"have to say, but I have been to Boone in the past. The Kate Shelley bridge and the Boone Scenic Railroad really are impressive. I especially liked the Chinese steamer they use on the Boone Scenic.
I just can't wait for next Saturday!!!!
