Good evening.

Not much new here, just thought I'd drop by and say hi. This week is only four days for me and the others at my school - we have Friday off. It's always nice when Thursday is Friday.

Yawn... off to bed. Sleepy [|)]

Evening all, I think......

Decided to take today off, reason being when I came home, I forgot my workboots, and made a run to Farm and Fleet for a new pair.  It takes less time (parent's house is near two hours one way), and I decided it would be better for my feet to ditch the Wolverines, and pick up a pair of Cats instead.  Figures, thats how Mondays go for me......

Seeing as how nobody stopped in, save for Willy2, I'll have a big helping of the spaghetti casserole, and garlic bread.  I have some milk straight out of the bulk tank to wash it all down (it's been cooled and filtered, and that's it!), and I found some cookies for dessert.

Went to take a look at the new ethanol plant they're building in Milton, looks to be bigger than the one I've seen in Monroe, the two grain bins they put up were huge!  It's supposed to be running by the end of the year, but they haven't started building the railyard yet (might not be done putting in all the underground items for loading and unloading as of yet.).  Have been thinking about applying for a job there, working in the railyard, loading and unloading railcars.  We shall see about that one later.

Have a good night, all.

Cannonball Jim, if you are so inclined, I'll let you take care of breakfast and dinner tomorrow,
with your meal selections.  I I can do the tater mashing with a fork:  that's how I always mash
my potatoes; but I don't do very well on the cabbage rolls, or fried corn mush.  So, if you'll
take care of those two things tomorrow, I'll take care of the mashed taters, rolls, and will
bring in some sorghum molasses.

Breakfast of toast, bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage, gravy, etc. is on the warmer

Greetings to all.

On the homeward leg now, but taking the long way.  Altoona, PA this morning.  Got a few hours to kill, but I think I can find something to do to pass the time.  600 some miles after that.  Home very late tonight or tomorrow.  Might actually have a picture or two of interest to the gang.

Had Monday off from work, but had plenty to do.  Actually got some of it done!

Wet weekend on the railroad, but plenty of leaf peepers.  Next weekend is looking good, weather-wise, so those who come along for the ride will get an eyeful.  Hopefully the wind and rain last night didn't take down too many leaves.

Dinner sounds good, but I'll be in a rush - have a meeting I'd rather not go to, and they insist on starting it at 6:30, instead of 7 like most everyone else...

Jay, I hope you don't get into too much trouble ogling those beautiful curves!  I haven't been there for a long time.

(You heard about the slide west of Pittsburgh, didn't you?  Glad they got the tracks open in time for you to see some traffic there.)

^~^  Am I blushing?

Had some young Tom cross my path and I have been distracted all morning!  He had the most gorgeous black fur with white cuffs and shirt!  Real eye-candy!  And....I think he was just coming home from the party, not going to the party!  Rowrrrr!

Ahem - back to business.

I saw a New England dinner go through here earlier....Yum!  Haven't had one for many, many years.  That sounds good.  Supposed to be very cool tomorrow and that would be very good for lunch/supper/snack.

And fried mush - to die for!  Probably would now, but it is so good - crispy and with honey or jelly!

Jay - time to come home now.  Visa called and we all had to vouch for you, so ........

Tree - I have 3 of those dreaded meetings this week.  That is 3 too many!

BC - you will get a lunch e-mail, I hope!

Going out to the outside hammock - see what else strolls by that looks good.  Need to rest my eyes until such time...........  Evil [}:)]

Worse - Mine tonight often involves local politicians.....   Need I say more?   Besides, I have constructive stuff to do at the house - as opposed to sitting around listening to people spend a half hour on something that should take 5 minutes....

Sorry about not getting back into the diner until now.  I've been very busy today.  Did
some cleaning around the house, after I finished with Produce this morning.  And have
done several things around the house this afternoon.

Supper menu tonight:  BLTs, burgers and cheeseburgers w/fries.

Desserts tonight:  chocolate cream pie, apple pie, apple cobbler, and peach pie.
(Baking was one of the things that kept me busy today.)

I'll take a cheeseburger for dinner and some chocolate cream pie for dessert. I hope there will be enough chocolate pie left over tomorrow morning for Mookie.

The weather was fantastic today, but that will change tomorrow with another cold front and more rain showers. Anywho, that's about it for today. Be back Wednesday evening.

I got to ride a "train" today.  It was rubber-tired, and operated on a short course around a kiddie farm.  (MC, they had the asphalt base, but no ballast, ties, or rails!)  Of course, the ride was nice, because I had three generations' worth of wonderful female companionship.

Progress report:  older granddaughter (21 months) goes "whoo-whoo" any time she sees the traditional crossbuck.

Willy, we have pretty much the same forecast.

Hi, CW. I'll take a cheeseburger with extra fries for dinner. I brought along some Cabot extra sharp cheddar to go along with my apple pie. Sorry I've been away for so long but sometimes life gets in the way.

Cheddar with apple pie?! Shock [:O] Yikes, that just doesn't sound good to me! Although I should recommend it to my dad because he likes mixing different foods together. I'm glad that trait hasn't worn off on me yet.

Big Smile [:D]   Ms. Mookie; I was hoping to find some one who had heard of East coast meals .I would be glad to whomp up a meal for you . Also make enough , just in case any one would like to try the England dinner . The corn meal mush  is tasty on a cold morning . The hamburger & rice cabbage rolls sure beats boxed hamburg helper with your choice of seasoning spices.  Respectfully, Cannonball.

PS Hoping not to miff the  excellant cook at the Diner.

Willy - You need to try some good sharp cheddar (the sharper the better) with that apple pie.  They provide a very nice counterpoint to each other.  I like 4X, which I can get at a local dairy store.  Good stuff!

Geez - we are showing our collective ages here when we talk food.

Willy - waaaaay back when the world was first rounded, you didn't eat apple pie unless you had cheese on it.  Or at least a scoop of vanilla ice cream.  And none of that Velveeta ack.  Like Tree said, it had to be good sharp cheddar!  Maybe even melt it a little...(hard to do pre-microwave!)

Cannonball - I don't know of many people around here that ate the "boiled dinner" or the mush - and I am not sure where my family got the idea - Mom was full German so we ate a lot of soups and Dad was Missouri and taught Mom how to make milk pan gravy.  But we had some great "odd" dinners.

Think the mush came more from Dad's side - they were railroaders and farmers and mush seemed to be more their thing!  Mom made her own, but you could buy it in the store at one time.  Don't see it any more.

BC - when you come to Lincoln we will put you on the zoo train.  It is usually operated by a former railroader.  Maybe they will turn the controls over to you?

MC - if you do make it to Lincoln and then Minden - Driver reminded me to tell you that the small steam locomotive they have up there on display was one hand-fired by my Dad.

Well, by the time I post this, Joe will have my juice and coffee ready - push my chair up to the table, Joe!  Ahm all ready!

Last leg today.  Should be home early this afternoon, will have a full trip report ready tomorrow with pics of interest to the gang.

Will need help with Visa.  Looking for a loan with great terms-like no payments for 6 years.  Let me know if you hear anything.

Good Wednesday morning to one and all!  Joe, thanks for putting the coffee on.

Cannonball Jim, you aren't miffing this cook.  Maybe I could watch as your make the
hamburger & rice cabbage rolls.  I've never done corn meal mush, but I have taken
leftover cornbread, and made mush that way.  Really good on a cold winter's night,
or a cold rainy day.  And, of course, you need to have plenty of butter mixed into
the mush, along with salt and pepper.

Speaking of rainy day, we're supposed to have some more "severe storms" sometime
later tonight (like starting around 6 p.m.).  I sure hope that national weather map was
WRONG!

Lunch?  Did we forget an important part of the day?  Do I have to survive on Peanut Butter and Jelly Paws?  Do you know how hard it is to get that off the roof of my mouf?

I can't use a can opener.  I am not allowed to turn on the stove.  I fried my fur on the microwave last time.  And the fridge is too hard to open.

CW is resting - so where are all the rest of the cooks?  YOWL!

Mookie, so sorry about that.  Don't know what happened to cannonball this morning.  Must have
been called out on a run.  I've got some nice beef vegetable soup on the stove, and am fixing
some grilled cheese.  How many grilled cheese sandwiches would you like to have with your soup?

And everbody else, there's plenty more for whomever would like a bowl of soup and grilled
cheese sandwiches.

Since it seems that the consensus is that cheddar is good on apple pie, I will have to try it sometime.

Rain is on the way for us here in Omaha, but nothing on the heavy side, just mainly light showers and isolated thunder.

Big english test on "The Odyssey" coming up next period. Please wish me luck. Ya know, if they had just figured out the concept of trains way back then, Odysseus probably wouldn't have had any of those problems he encountered on his journey. Big Smile [:D]

Vegetable beef soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch sounds real good to me. I'll have two servings of the soup and one grilled cheese sandwich, please. Thank you!

We have a storm front moving in here, we had a clear blue sky up until a few hours ago. Now it looks like we might be getting some rain here in the next few hours. I am just hoping that we will not be socked in with this kind of weather over the next three or four days.

I am tempted to bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies this afternoon. I've got some dishes that need to be washed first. I might show up at the Diner tonight with a few dozen cookies for dessert after dinner.Chef [C=:-)]

Well, by now it's past tense, so I hope you fared well on the test, Willy.

If Odysseus had wound up on Amtrak, he'd still be out there somewhere, behind stalled freights!
