The first Tuesday of November is Election Day.

The first Tuesday of every month is when they test the air raid sirens around here.

There's one atop the building that serves as our polling place.

I was already in the basement (right here!) when the sirens let go--I heard them loud and clear.

That should addle a few brain cells!

Saw statues of three buffali on the way into (and out of) town. Saw lots of RR cars, but didn't have time for any serious trainwatching. Didn't even have any Buffalo wings! (Not a favorite of mine anyhow, so no loss) Did enjoy the conference - especially the presentations by EMS cartoonist Steve Berry. Not often that you laugh so hard you nearly bust a seam, cry, and learn something all in the same presentation.

MC. I am swinging through your way a week from Sunday on the SW Chief. Trust you will have the tracks swept clean down at the bottom end of your range by that time.

Polls open at 8am here. We have our pencils sharpened.

Just coffee this morning. I am in a rush, because after voting I have several personal matters to attend to and then I have to cook a batch of pasta for the annual election night spagetti dinner at our church.

Oh you poor thing - looking all ruffled and messy. Let me put you in a warm broth, eh, bath and lay your feathers out on a towel to dry! (This is getting better by the minute!)

Isn't this just exactly the one time you just Love your Job? This and 108+ heat? We received the rain from your storm and it was just wonderful! Keep the snow, keep sending moisture - farmers don't need that corn crop that bad!

MC, you are correct: YOU, sir, are NOT in my c&d pot!! I would NOT do that
to you. But I'll give you a bowl to eat along with a mug of hot cider to help
you thaw out!!

And Joe, it's chicken and dumplings, not chicken and gravy! If anything,
tonight's batch is more like chicken & dumplings SOUP. But it's gooodddd!
