James....I know you fellows get high heat in Summer down there. It was 98.8 F here in central Indiana today...and...that was with high humidity and that combination is hot...!
I don't know if you are near water or mostly dry land...so really don't know what kind of humidity you experience there. I understand your Winter is not even very cold....

We aren't far from the ocean but we still get a fairly high humidity around the 70% and it is dry. we are in the middle of a drought at the moment (we only got enough water to last until 2008). where I live (Brisbane, the capital of Queensland) is in a sub-tropical environment so we have very warm summers and mild winters. it gets down to about 4 or 5C at night and anywhere between 18 and 25 during the day. during summer it is around 20 at night and up to 44 during the day.
and as for the upside down pizza, sounds yum!

This pizza is good warmed up, too!
Not a bad day on the railroad. Didn't get as hot as it was supposed to, and it didn't rain when the trainman had to do his work on the ground. And we had a reasonable number of passengers (although we can always use more...)
Back into the woods tomorrow. Oh, and the ALCO is back in service (NYC 8223). Now both EMDs are on the Utica train.

Just got out of the cooler, had to refill Mudchicken's tap, he drained it completely! That was a hundred gallon tank behind that tap, so if anyone sees a slightly rounder bird walk by, we know what happened.
Got up to 92 yesterday in Madison, was hot enough that the clutch fan in my truck never shut off, sounded like a semi going through town. The new city pool in town was filled to capacity pretty much all day, and I stayed in the AC as much as possible.
Be in later for a light dinner.

matt and I went to the store earlier and saw the 508 head to chicago.too hot to go outside now.will take a light supper for work tonight.

We're breathing a sigh of relief here--it'll only make it to the middle 90s. The AC at work couldn't keep the indoor temperature much more then ten degrees cooler than outside, but that's enough when you're coming in.
Saw UP 1995 again this morning, headed out of town, followed by the CNW duo and pulling 124 cars of MPRCB. A lightning stripe on steroids.
Going out now to watch trains, from the confines of an air-conditioned pizzeria.
Still missing.

I'm visiting Port Hedland for the first time in two years.
It's mid winter here, 25 degrees Celcius, clear blue sky and just the weather for train photos.
I spent the last two days down in the Dampier area (about 250 km west of here) looking at Pilbara Iron (the former Hamersley and Robe River lines). We had bad luck with the former Robe line and the Hamersley line was closed for rail replacement for a lot of the time. We still got a lot of photos (and a flat tyre).
Is Mookie still around here? Two years ago I found a new siding named "Mooka" and now there is an SD70ACe with a brass nameplate with that name!

Evening all.....
Weatherman was off by 8 degrees today, only got to 90, but air was still thick. Supposed to be hot tomorrow, then moderate to the mid 80s rest of the week. Will keep Gatorade and Squincher tanks full all week.
Kevin: Zeppelin fan? That was a pretty good album, I like 'em all.
Hope this weather moderates in a week and a half, will be going home to parents to help out with Racine County Fair, will be hauling ice around to vendors. Will literally have the coolest job at the fair.
Stay cool everyone.

I never did check the temperature during the day today, but I did go through about five bottles of water, and the A/C'd car was pleasant to visit. The baggage car has all the doors open, so it's not a bad place to be when the train is moving. The only down side is when the baggage car is next to the engine - an RS-3 - and it's accompanying ALCO smoke...
Let's see what's in the cooler for a snack....
O^~^O jingle bells, jingle bells.....
What a great day in the neighborhood. Got to take my fur off and hang it in the closet. Put on my summer outfit - a moo-moo with small people all over it. It is so cute - they are playing with yarn, drinking milk out of a saucer, napping in a ball.
Lots of old faces in here. Well, not old age-wise -
Not going to get out of this so will quit trying.
MC - what happened to Gus? I like him so much better.
BC - You could take your bike to work - put it in the trunk and give it a ride for awhile.
Randy - keep that chicken hydrated. Hate dried chicken with a passion!

Morning All,
Headed out to the Colorado Renaissance Festival yesterday despite the heat. All I can say is that I felt sorry for some of the performers in the costumes they had to wear! A lot of dark colors, long sleeves and heavy materials...not exactly what I would choose to wear when it's 102ºF (almost 39ºC for those of you down under, across the pond, way up north there eh, etc.)
It was the first time I'd ever been to one. Kind of an interesting deal. It was as if the witches or weird sisters (as they're listed in the Dramatis Personae) in Shakespeare's MacBeth had thrown in some history, fiction, Old English, Middle English, Shakespeareian English, melodrama, and vaudeville along with their fillet of fenny snake, eye of newt, toe of frog, etc. while chanting, "Double Double Toil and Trouble, Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble." Kind of a different deal, but a lot of fun.
Well, meanwhile, I guess I had better get to work. Hope you all have a great week!
TTFN!
