Hello everybody, I am so excited that I have won the elections at my college. I am now officially president of student council for Niagara College (Welland Campus). I start in the first of May.

I won by a landslide too.

Well,it looks like my time schedule for the weather warnings is pretty
well holding true, just had several issued for our area, still a bit further west,
but none the less much closer than we like.

The wind has really started picking up around here a quite a bit,and it seems
like for some strange reason,we're getting some from the northern climes,
which is something that we don't normally get (maybe it will change directions
a bit !)

Brian;hopefully,we are "battened down" as tight as we can get,we can use the
rain, but honestly don't need or want the other stuff that goes along with it.

Not sure what the supper menu is going to be just yet,I think CW will be in
shortly with that, but while I'm waiting,I need a cup of Mocha.

Supper is breakfast tonight: sausage, biscuits & gravy, bacon. Making it a quick
supper; we need to go to a visitation tonight. A dear friend of ours passed away
suddenly Monday morning. She was a dear friend to the entire local community,
as well as a dear friend of ours, possibly the entire nation. She strove for equal
rights for everybody, no matter the color, race, etc. She was 81. Not sure we will
make it to the funeral. It's a very small church, and I know there will be very, very
many people attending her funeral tomorrow afternoon.

Joe,

Thank You,visitation started at 6:00,and we got over there about 6:10,and
it was already getting crowded, (only 3 doors from our house) and as CW
said,it is a small church and parking will be at a premium, let alone space
in the Sanctuary. As CW also said how well loved that she was in the
community, she was a Fighter for peoples' rights, and this world needs
more people like she was. We are extremely PROUD that we
have been able to meet, know and be friends with her for the years we have.
She Will Be Missed By All !!

Walt and Paula, our condolences on the loss of your friend.

I remember a wake where the line was long like that--I had to go early, on my way to work, but the line was already out the door half an hour before the published start time (it was a classmate of Ellen's, a girl who had everything going for her--had a brain aneurysm three days before she would have left for college, driving home from a Bears game with a friend).

Josie, the bird was probably upset at the reflection's dirty feet! Every few years we get a young cardinal who can't stand to see a rival in the window, and we wake up to a "klunk...klunk...chirp...klunk!"

Carl,

Went to a visitation like that last night, 16-year-old son of a co-worker, killed in a car accident. Those are the hardest.

Brian, you are darn straight on that subject!! Eveyone in the Dinner hold on to whatever you can cause there's a storm about!!!!!!!! As Mutt pointed out here in Louisville, it is rainy and very windy here, and yes the weather alert radio has been going off 24/7! Wow. I also heard a couple of tornado warnings, in surrounding counties, not too far from Louisville. It is also very dark, outside. Man I deffanitly know I'm in the Ohio Valley now. lol

Carl, I am a little bit confused here. Yes I do remember those renumbered UTLX cars very well in fact. However, I don't remeber seeing any NATX cars unless those UTLX cars used to be NATX, which I highly doubt. Help....[?][%-)]

Good morning, all! Well, looks like we made it through the storms last night.
I never heard any thunder or saw any lightning. But like Mutt and Sarah have
said, the wind sure did pick up there for awhile. Some places in the county
are without power (we still have our power). Have heard this morning that
several streets have some limbs and other debris on the roadways, for
people on their way to school, work to contend with this morning.

How about some turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs and biscuits &
gravy for breakfast? Of, if you'd like, got some cereal and bananas and
strawberries that you can put in your cereal.

Don't worry, Joe: I've got plenty of coffee on. Think I'm going to need a lot
of it myself this morning.

Wind (up to 50mph), rain. We're getting the northern edge of that stuff that's tearing up the south, plus a system over Canada. Good thing it's warm, or this would be a major snow event. Instead we'll have rain coming down sideways....

Aside from that, things aren't too bad....

Looks like spring is finally making it's presence known, and just in time for the fire department's spring chicken barbeque. The person who used to "do it all" (her own choice) got tired of doing it all, so we're doing a little exploring on how much of what to get, etc. It'll be a good event...

Mornin" All

We are still hearing reports of all the damage done by the storm. Lots of people substained damage from it. A couple in Eastern Arkansas, left their trailor house and got in their car, the storm destroyed the trailor and blew out the windows in their car giving them cuts. Another trailor was destroyed when a tree fell right in the middle of it acting like a hugh knife and chopping it into. [:0] [:0] [:0] The National Weather Service has confirmed only 1 tornado (in Arkansas) so far and claimed that much of the damage was from 80 mph winds. It is ironic how a storm will devastate one area only to leave another nearby area alone. I thank God, my area was spared. But there is damage not far from me.

I also read where at least one UP freight train had to be stopped so debris could be cleared from the railroad tracks.

You just never know about these storms. I fear many of us have just become accustomed to them and don't give them the attention they deserve. Life and death are only a heartbeat away, yet we take it all for granted so much. I am sure Larry will whole-heartedly agree with that. We must be ready in more ways than one, for the unexpected.

Last night after reach the mid to upper 70s yesterday, it dropped down to about 44. It is in the low 50s right now with a high of 77 predicted. It is cloudy so warming is going slowly, and we have a light breeze.

There is not much more to report. Zach did call me and tell me the UP 844 was coming to North Little Rock. So that will be nice. It has been, maybe 10 years, since I saw it last.

Everyone Have A Good Day

Take Care

OK, Sarah.

The cars we saw were UTLX tank cars--when we saw them I noted that they appeared to have been relettered and renumbered.

When I got home, I used the build date off the cars I'd seen to see if I could find out what they were originally. The NATX cars matched the date, and I could find some old records at work to show that they were in fact renumbered in order, minus about five of the NATX cars that had been retired.

Meanwhile, I'd asked someone with access to this information about the former numbers of the UTLX cars. He came up with DBUX numbers! So the only solution is that the NATX cars (all but four) went to the DBUX series (in 2003, as it turns out), then the DBUX cars (all but one) went to the UTLX series that we saw (late last year is when they started to be relettered).

Isn't this hobby fun?

And I did all of that before breakfast!

Doctor's appointment went well last night, though the powers of suggestion made me mighty uncomfortable for the rest of the night. I'll have to have that exploratory procedure in December again.

Feeling much better today, so I'll have some of Cher's delicious cooking. I have a train to catch this morning, preceded by the walk to the depot and followed by a longer walk to the bike shop. My bike will then take me to lunch (my favorite hamburger joint in Elmhurst is open for the year now), then home. I should sleep well tonight before work!

Thank you Josie, for your kind words.

Jim, glad to hear you made it through the storms last night unscathed.

Lunch today will be your choice of tuna melt or you can have deep fried fish
w/fries and hushpuppies and cole slaw.

Hi gang, All I can say is TGIF. It's been a crazy week.

May I send my condolences on your loss CW & Walt.

Congrats on your campain victory Junctionfan.

Josie, When I lived in Washington I had a neighbor that had a bird that was obsessed with flying into his large upstairs window. It would fly full bore into it repeatedly till it knocked itself out. Then after a while it would do it again. This would go on all day long. Day after day the "comakazi bird" would return for a couple of weeks. Finaly it dissapeared and never returned, might have been eaten by the cat, who knows. It was so bizzare you had to see it to belive it. It's even more bizzare that a bird would step in its own s*** and track it onto a window. I guess amimals can have mental problems too.

Ah, yes. Forgot to congratulate the new president. Kev - read up on the sword of Damocles....

Mother Nature toying with us here today. Still pretty windy, but the sun was out in all its glory earlier, then I got soaked on one side just before lunch, walking up the sidewalk to our building.... Should be an interesting day....

Jim - when we experienced our derecho (microburst) back in '95, the damage was quite spotty, although the complete damage track ran from the St Lawrence River all the way into the Adirondacks. Modular houses were blown off their foundations, round bales were rolled along, trees uprooted, but just a few yards away, it was just a big light show (very noisy thunderstorm!).

Ahem - re: birds - of which I know nothing about, but will play an authority in the diner:

Male birds, during mating season, will fly into windows or anything reflective because they see it as a threat to their territory.

I didn't say they were terribly bright, just territorial.

Back to the hammock with tissue, cof syrup and those wonderful put-you-to-sleep-dry-your-nose-up-so-bad-it-hurts!

Congrats Andrew!

Mookie, Hope you get better soon. Sucks to be sick!!!

Larry, what you said about hay rolls being blown reminds me of this storm that blew a bunch of wheel lines accross highway 139 on the Oregon border. The highway was blocked while several ranches in the area dissasembled the offending lines and moved them. It was comical watching them do this only to have the wind blow them back onto the road. Finaly they wised up and moved them to the downwind side of the highway.

For those that don't know, wheel lines are irrigation pipes that have big wheels so they can be moved. They are usually a 1/4 - 1/2 mile long.

Thankyou very much-right now the colleges are on strike so I have to play it cool and wait for both sides to finnish. I heard though that if it goes on for more than 6 weeks, the semester will be repeated and the students will have to pay for it again. I am not going to allow that to happen without a serious, serious fight though. Right now I am waiting to see if that is correct and waiting for an indication that the strike will last that long.

Hey, CW could you make me some fries...with cheese? [dinner] That just sounds soooo good about now.

Josie, hope you found your fries w/cheese. Did anyone notice the cheese in
the scrambled eggs this morning? Just thought I'd add a little something to
the scrambled eggs this morning, other than the prerequisite hot sauce for
the Mutt.

It's only in the low 50s outside, and quite breezy. Definitely need a jacket on
outside today. When I took a walk around the block earlier, the sun was
shining. Now it's just overcast.

Mookie, make sure you get enough rest this weekend. Hope you'll be feeling
"up to par" next week.

As you all know, with it being Friday, I'm starting to prepare the fish for tonight's
fish fry. Also will be fixing butterfly shrimp.

You mean I'm gonna have butterflies in my stomach?

Kind of like when I met Sarah for the first time.

Got my fresh air and fresh burger this noon, so I should ret well before work tonight--especially with a good supper! The weather's still clear, but there's a strong breeze (we bikers can detect such things!), and a promise of rain tonight.

I remember about Mutt and the hot sauce. If I had him and the son-in-law both up here we could drastically reduce our heating bill.

Congratulations, Junc, on the presidency--you mean they haven't asked you to mediate for this strike yet?
