Mookie [8)]

I love the new ear muffs. Red is very stunning on you. [:I]

Well today is my Monday. [B)] But I will say, the week does go by fast. I tell the day by what job I am doing since my job is a relief job. It is nice to get to do something different most every day instead of doing the same thing every day. Tonight I am just "extra", so if someone doesn't show up then I do their job. The other days I have a set job, but not the same job every day. I hope that makes sense. [;)]

Well last night I spent time organizing my deductions for income tax. [:(] I am missing 2 things so I can not yet file my taxes. [:(!] I hope and prayer that I get a refund this year. You can make that a prayer request if you so desire. [^]

Well got to run, time to walk the dog (again), have lunch, and start getting ready for work.

See yall later.

Jim

Sorry to say the the Almighty has assigned the tax issue to the IRS. I have tried to negotiate with Him on several occasions, but He has said He has a hard enough time with His tax issues.

However, I suppose He could look upon you with a little more favor than I, so a prayer might work.

(Hoping I am right that God has a sense of humor...),

....Heard someone say of "bad" weather expected for Feburary....to pay for what we're having now....I look at that a bit different. December here avg. 12 degrees below normal, plus excess snow....and now well towards the end of January we have been avg. 10 degrees above normal, so.....It seems to me to be averaging out just about right....
I see IRS matter being discussed too, so my comment on that is....Ours is on the way tax man has it, and he files via electronic means and the return really comes back fast...It's the way to go.
Sunshine abounds in Muncie today....Mid 40's temp. Pretty nice..{For January}....
Everyone have a good day......

SJ, the one time I thought I had deep pockets they were in fact golf pockets--there was a hole in one.

I will gladly carry my own not-too-modest weight around here for the celebration, but beyond that there may be problems.

Of course, I may have to check things out for myself, in about a month or so.

I'm sure the same electricity that rocked the hammock could power the blanket. I would hope you could do the two simultaneously, with a little care. The alternative--kitten on a spit with a bed of coals beneath--is too horrible to think of!

Just for you--I'm told that my granddaughter, who is being raised by the resident cats in that house, likes to climb up onto the back of the couch and sit or lie there.

Bad weather for Febuary! We just got done with bad weather for January(and December).
We were 4 days away from a new record for the number of days with non stop rain. It was sort of annoying, we had to put up with all that rain and we still didn't get the record. The mud slides shut down Sounder train and Amtrak for about a week. It is interesting, when they have a flood or a mudslide in California it is all over the national news, but when we have mass flooding and mudslides here in western Washington we never even get mentioned. Oh well.

Yes we call it the Dinky. Why? Well cause it's dinky! Proud to be the official train geek of Princeton University!

Emma, maybe the media figure that everyone knows that Seattle (and therefore the rest of Washington, including the desert areas) get a lot of rain all the time, and a few more feet isn't that newsworthy. We railroaders and railfans have been getting slightly better coverage of things up that way.

Sometimes I'm glad I didn't become a journalist.

Supper is now being served in the Diner: meat loaf, mashed taters, gravy and
the mixed veggies. Joe, your to-go box is ready, as usual.

Dessert tonight will be on the light side: Jell-O w/Cool Whip.

Wow! We had 35-40 mph winds last nite and a double house fire! 2 alarm!

They build these expensive matchbox houses and one of them had gasoline stored in a shed under the deck and attached to the house. Oops. It was totally gutted and the wind blew the fire into the house next door. Even the fire chief said "the lightweight construction of the houses let the flames spread." $175K and it is lightweight! Wind 2 and houses 0.

The fire dept did a fantastic job, but had to call in people on their day off to help protect the rest of the city. Had 6 companies working (this was 6 engines and 2 aerials) Then called for two more engines to protect the rest of the neighborhood and give some relief. Can you tell what I use my scanner for?

A well-oiled machine at work!

But it is 48 degrees (4 am) and going up. A little windy, but nice. And "But I Love You" is back home - as of 4 pm yesterday! Holding hands to boot.

I want a warm bowl of milk and some sleeping pills. Gah!

Mookie, sounds like you all had a wild night in Lincoln. Do you need another
bowl of warm milk? I'll be glad to heat another bowl for you.

Coffee on, hot water ready for tea, cocoa. Even have some warm milk for
hot chocolate. And the juice of the day is orange juice.

Breakfast: oatmeal and toast, or sausage and sausage gravy & biscuits,
and scrambled eggs.

Lunch today will be fish: fried, baked, broiled, with fries, hushpuppies and
cole slaw. Also have tuna sandwiches.

Mook - Today's construction makes it hard for even the best fire departments to be any more than the fabled "cellar savers." Before the days of engineered construction, buildings were built really solid, since people wanted them to last. Nowadays, the building is engineered to withstand X forces, and not a whole lot more. One mantra of a fire service icon who recently passed away was "trusses kill firefighters." And you'll find trusses (and other engineered components) in virtually every building, large and small.

Considering the conditions you described, they did an excellent job. Sometimes those wind driven fires will take out an entire block... I'd hate to see what would happen in my son's development - the houses aren't touching, but they are really, really close...

He lives in Tacoma - which has been just as wet as Seattle. A lot has to do with the press and how it portrays the situation. During the Blizzard of '77 in NY, we actually had worse conditions than Buffalo, but Buffalo had the means to get the stories out. Word has it that a network flack was talking to the folks at our only (at the time) local TV station, trying to get some film. They couldn't understand why the station couldn't get the film out. "I'm looking at the map and I see an airport right there." "You don't understand - If we could get to the airport in the first place, it's closed, too!"

Tree - the best tv is on my scanner. The picture is on the front page of the Lincoln Journal Star (www.journalstar.com) for those of you that wi***o look. It is a prize-winning picture of both the firefighters and the see-through construction of the house!
And yes, the houses are fairly close together.

The did say that they were sending engines around to check other residences for any embers! They had two district chiefs working the fire and one was my favorite - the one that stays calm no matter what. Efficient and calm.

CW - yes, I will take another bowl of warm milk, a little macaroni, one diced potato, some chopped celery and pepper to taste! (can't do salt or onion, darn) - Potato Soup!

Wind has been out of the north here, so it's not likely it's flown by this neck of the woods. Sorry.[:(]

I love a nice bowl of potato soup. That sounds like a real winner for today too. [:p]

Well since it is Friday (really) you can call me the Sandman. [:D] Anyone want to come ride up on the sandcrane? It has a lovely view of the top of the locos. The only problem is when someone decides to blow the horn. [:(!] [B)] [:(!] It is an interesting place to be, especially when the GEs decide to shoot sparks, or smoke excessively (which they do a lot). I watched 2 Little Rock & Western Alcos yesterday in the yard. Funny, Alcos have the rep of smoking badly, but yet these two old Alcos bearly smoked at all. In fact most any new GE smokes more than those 2 old Alcos did.

My dog is shedding what little hair she has. Last night at work one of the foreman said his cats were also shedding. Now, doesn't that make you wonder? Has nature fooled our animals or are the animals correct? I guess in another 2 or 3 weeks we will know one way or the other. I have a feeling the animals will win this one. [;)] I hope they do. If so, then home heating oil should drop in price. Our December was about 15 degrees warmer than normal. Our rainfall was 10 to 20 inches below normal (depending on where you live in our state). Next question of wonder, what will the summer hold? [?]

Lunch is ready, and I made some potato soup, as well, if others would like
to have that instead of the usual Friday fish selections.

Think we'll change the Friday night supper menu. Tonight, you can have
your choice of Italian spaghetti w/ garlic bread/Texas toast, or burgers with
either fries or onion rings.
