Time for me to head back to work. I'll be back in May at the soonest, I hope. Christmas break wasn't long enough to post all the topics I wanted to talk about. Saw an interesting book at the library The War on Powder River: The History of an Insurrection by Helena Huntington Smith. Long before trains began hauling coal out of Powder River Basin that country was filled with cowboys, ranches, cattle rustlers, surviving harsh winters and a war between the homesteaders and the stockmen. With all the interest surrounding Powder River lately I thought it would be important to remember the pioneers that struggled to open and settle that territory.

Before I go I'd like to share a song I heard just recently:

The Next Time I’m In Town
-Johnny Cash

"It’s been something seein’ you again
And in this time we’ve had to spend
You been so good to be around
I thank you for that special thrill
Keeps me goin’ on until
The next time I’m in town

"Though I won’t be back here for a while
I’ll hear your laughter see you smile
I’ll remember what went down
Though I don’t know how or when
I’ll be seein’ you again
The next time I’m in town..."

Good morning everyone. Back in here after about 4 1/2 hours asleep. It
was sometime after 2 a.m., when I finally got to sleep this morning.

Joe, thanks for putting the coffee on, and making the juice.

Joe, thank Mama for the nachos for today. I'm sure all our football fans
will really appreciate that. Even though Mutt and I aren't especially football
fans, we love the nachos; as a matter of fact, the university here in Louisville,
the University of Louisville Cardinals team is playing in the Gator(?) Bowl
today, against Virginia Tech. (We aren't fans, so we won't be watching THAT
game!)

Breakfast this morning will be: your choice of BLTs, sausage, biscuits &
gravy and scrambled eggs, or oatmeal & toast.

And to go along with Stacey's nacho dip, I'll be making pizzas for today.

Nachos and pizza! Great combination! I'll enjoy those while watching Iowa beat up on Florida in the Outback Bowl.

Louisville plays Va. Tech in the Gator Bowl, game starts at 12:30. Neither
Mutt nor I will be watching. Now, IF UK was in a bowl games, we'd
probably check that one out.

The pizzas will be ready around noon EST.

Could I still get a BLT?

We had thundershowers earlier today! Weird weather--if it were colder we'd have had several inches of snow by now (and enough wind to make it miserable). If it were any drier, I'd be on my way to work right now--on my bike!

Sure Carl: here's a couple of BLTs for you.

We are currently under a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m.
tonight. Right now, Crawford Co., IN is under a severe thunder-
storm warning until 2:45 p.m.

Hope everyone else is enjoying the pizzas and nachos & chips.

Think I'm going to go take a nap (that is, if the NWS radio will
let me).

Well, thankfully we just bit the 'bullet' again. At about 3:00pm our time;a tornado
DID come through our city;WE have no damage here, but there are already
reports of scattered damage around the county.[at 3pm it looked liked midnight]
Other than reports of damage;there are none of injuries,or anything worse.(at this time.)

PIZZA and other things are STILL on schedule !!

Wow...Locomut that sounds like serious stuff.....Mixing this warm weather with colder weather systems in this season can unleash some unwanted stuff.....Sounds like you lucked out this time....Our weather instrument indicated 60 degrees here at 3:30 this afternoon....Under no threat now that I know of....We were under just the northern fringe of the outer Possible weather systems today but we've experienced nothing....

Hmmmm. Have to say I am glad we got out of town when we did-8am eastern. We picked up some of that 60 degree air mass north of Indy, but Chicago was in the 50's and it is 38 degrees here on the home front. Above freezing, so I'll take that any time.

Belated Happy New Year to everybody. We had a great time with the kids and grandkids. Got to rest up because I have much to do in the next couple of weeks as we will start to see our clients as early as January 16.

Quentin, you are so right This one was as scary as I would like.(have been through others, but this one really raised the "shackles" this time.
And again,at this time;there are no reports of injuries,or worse;just some damage.
We hit about 72 degrees this afternoon (broke record.)-and now about 58-59 .
Supposed to get down in the 30s tonight. I'll be extremely happy when our temps. get back to seasonal, and we don't have these swings like this. I'm sure that there are alot of peple that feel the same way.

Jay;glad you were out of town, hope you don't come back to anything that you don't want or need.

I still remember some years back, sitting in traffic- NB I-65 just south of the FairGrounds, and watching a tornado cross west to east. It took out the horse barns, skipped across I-65. On the east side,it took houses out. As the radio reporter[in a 'copter followed it east and reported, as it skipped back and forth across the alley's taking out some houses and leaving others. I remember the sight but cannot remember the reporters name or station. Too long ago.

The reporter was *** Gilbert, and the copter had the WHAS logo
on it. He gave the copter reports for both WHAS 84 radio, and channel
11 WHAS news reports.

My daddy and his sisters were coming back from a funeral in Hodgenville,

As the holiday draws ever so slowly to a close...

Up to 38 here today - which was nice as the wind vane on the weather station was frozen in place...

We aren't going to see 'Mutt's weather, but we still see that danged snow. Haven't really watched the forecasts lately, but I should see what the morning commute will be like.

Now for some late pizza....

nssr9169,[#welcome] to the "Diner" and forums!! Some of us will attempt to
answer any questions you might have;between railroads and the weather.
That's what this place is for;to discuss things![:D]

Larry, think the "weather" is out of here for a few days, and as far as the
"morning commute",you have your choice of being "blown away",or "Slip Sliding Away" !!!! We are supposed to get semi-cold tonight, not as cold as some people already have been;I guess you could say that this was : "The "Balm" Before the Storm"!

Are the hammock and milk ready? Someone should be returning soon, after a long winter's catnap!

Oh, yeah--cake, too, or maybe chocolate waffles for breakfast.

The "hammock" should be "warmed up" for Madame;(unless someone else got to it
first.(pity them) Not real sure about cake and waffles,'tho there should be a few leftovers.

BC;ain't none of us going to catch your "Lil Sis";she's too fast for all of us.[:D]
(Congrats on making it that far)

Coffee and juice are out;a few items on the "warmer bar" are also out, have fun fixing what
you want,'til CW and others come in.[|)]

Walt, thank you for fixing the coffee and making the juice.

Since I'm now "in the building", breakfast will be: Ed's birthday cake, since
hardly anyone touched it Saturday night. Never did see Ed in here; must
have gotten caught up in work down there in Houstontown. So we'll have
chocolate birthday cake for breakfast. Don't worry about the calories: when
you have your sweets for breakfast, you burn up the calories in them though-
out the day.

Lunch will be: beef strips w/red and green peppers, tomatoes, and green
beans mixed together.

I have personally checked Mookie's hammock, and no one is in it.
So it's all cleaned up, and ready for Mookie to curl down for a nap. Even
turned on the heater for her.
