Willy,

Need rain here as much as you do, got a downpour or four this morning, with more on the way. Corn is looking better, hopefully it does well.

I'll be back later, it's gonna get real ugly near Madison real quick, gotta go batten down the hatches!!!!

Hello All,

New in town and came across your depot diner/coffee shop. How conveniently located so near the tracks; what Class 1 traffic goes by here??

Since it is near noon, I'll have the Cheeseburger basket and a large COKE, thanks.

I am a mid-westerner; east central Kansas and most of our railroad watching is either BNSF or UP.

Great cheeseburger!!

Around here we seemingly are either inside for extended periods of time due to too much snow, rain (except this year by golly) or HEAT which is the case right now. It is just plain too hot and humid to stay outside for too very long. Sunday is supposed to have the highest heat index since the early 1900's....almost 115! My bride and I are going to the movies this afternoon and on Sunday we are going to cacoon in the house and air conditioning with some comofort food and a few videos. Stay cool as best you can everybody and for safety sake DRINK PLENTY OF WATER so as not to get dehydrated!

P.S.: Last night after the sun began to set my wife and I grabbed a Burger King and sat in the car under a tree near the Naperville station and watched the last of the dinkey parade and Amtrak 347 come through before calling it a night...VERY PLEASANT!

Willy,

Any game that Cincinnatti wins is a good game in my book, although as Joe
said, they seem to have a real problem with that 'other' red hatted team.

Larry,if you are around today, could use a little extra help with the grill.[;)]

Yes, Willie, ocassionally we do bring in sliders. Think I'll call and put in a big
order for tomorrow:

Brunch this morning: turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits &
gravy, cantalope and watermelon.

Supper tonight will be: brats, hamburgers and hot dogs fixed out on the grill.
You'll have to come in to get your fries, though. And we have some more of
railfan619's shakes in the freezer for tonight.

Everyone: PLEASE stay cool and safe today.

Evenin' all,
Well, after catching up on about 10 pages of reading, figured I'd get back up to speed.
First off, the good news is I got off the double shift thing. The bad news is now I get to go to our Rochelle facility on third shift for a couple of weeks. It seems as though their 3rd shift production manager ( the 3rd in as many months) got caught on video giving some personal "training" to one of the female operators. They seem to think I can go in there and with one fell swope of my hand make a 30% difference in production. I guess I'll have to break out the Indiana Jones bullwhip and start making my Super Mud rocket fuel coffee for the crew. It worked on 3rd shift down here in Erie. The other good news is that I'll be able to stop into the Diner for breakfast. It's about an hour and 35 minute commute with all the construction on I-88.
All you Wisconsinites (?) quit hogging all the rain! Every storm either goes to the north or south of us. It seems like it hits the Quad Cities and just splits around us. Trees are dropping leaves like fall. Over 100 both days this weekend. MAMA (note spelling) is going to sell at a doll show in Geneseo IL this weekend. She's 86 and going strong. Mama( note spelling) is going to go down and help her with loadin and out. She got hooked on them when we got married. Besides MAMA usually gives her a freebee for helping out.
Cubs just can't seem to beat any team with a red hat this month. [banghead] Was a good game tonight though.
[#welcome] to all the newbies. Word of advice, don't **ss off the cooks and waitresses.
They will let you know about it. (don't ask me how I know)
CW- Have we ever had "sliders" on the menu? [:P] [dinner]

Well, everyone stay [8D] this weekend! Willy, over and [zzz]

CW I think Pizza is nice for din din tonight. I will ask for extra cheese, please. :)

It was another hot one here today. I suffered at my job today since, it was about 96 degrees outside and about 120 degrees inside. Unfortunitly, it's going to be another hot one here in Philly during the weekend so that means I get to play my softball game which is going to be a double header in the intense heat of a crappy feild Norristown State Hospital.

Just call me Randy, Sarah.

Reminds me of the new body style Western Stars when they came out, they never reinforced the front of the cab where the visor bolts to the roof. After a few years, the steel cracked and you had to weld in reinforcment plates and weld the cracks back up.

Cummins engines are SUPPOSED to smoke!! I just hope it doesen't turn out like their 'Big Cam' fiasco back in the 70's and 80's with the origional 855s.

Philly's something to think about, you'll have to come see the Madison area one of these days, it's a pretty wild college town, not much other goodies around unless you're a Frank Loyd Wright fan. If you come for the college part, just drink responsibly.

Pizza sounds good, I'll take a meat lover's, please. Sunday sounds like a good day to stay inside and play Poker again, supposed to be around 95-100 out

CW- thanks for the offer to cook up something special. I don't think I'll make it though. A car hit a pole and knocked it over in the street . It's a big mess. SDG&E (power co.), SBC, Cox , and us are all on that pole. There are a bunch of crews there waiting for SDG&E to set the new pole and then we all get to take turns hanging our respective lines. It will be a couple more hours before it's my turn. I might be there till late at night. At least I don't have any fiber optic lines on thet pole, that would have been a real disaster. The driver wasn't hurt that's good. But guess what...It looks like the cause was one of those *** cell phones and a driver not paying attention. Well I hope they learned there lesson, It was an expensive one. I wouldn't be suprised if it costs 30-40 thousand dollars plus the cost of the car!!!!

Yes, James, [#welcome] to the Depot Diner!! Must have still been half
asleep this morning not to have welcomed you then! Please forgive me:
didn't mean to overlook a new patron!!

Chris, called a Chicago pizzaria, and they are delivering a deep dish pizza
especially for you, with everything on it. Is that o.k. with you?

Chad, if you like, I'll fix you something else for supper. What would you like?

Jay, just bypass Russ and Amy, and ask the doctor if you could put a couple
of train pictures up in the delivery room!! Think that would be real neat.

Thanks for the congrats on the new grandchild. I should add that this is number 2 in the family. Step son Russ and his wife Amy have Lilli, who is now close to 1 1/2. Time to think about toy trains for her. Russ and Amy are expecting the aforementioned baby boy to arrive in August. I wonder if I can get Russ to hang several train pictures in the delivery room? Can't start recruiting new railfans too early.

Had upwards to 2 inches of rain down in Delavan yesterday and assume Tom also got some relief for his lawn. Reports indicate that the drought has already had an impact on corn yields, but this rain may have been enough to keep things from going from poor to disaster.

CW, Did I hear you say PIZZA? I'm there. Sounds great even though I'll be having pizza for lunch. We are having a pizza birthday party at work for one of my guys.

Chris, I'll be looking forward to seeing your pictures of the steamers.

And welcome to the dinner James[#welcome]

Buenos Dias everyone.

Went down to Union Station last night after a portrait shoot I had to get my first glimpse of 844 and 3985. Couldn't get in place to get any decent night shots from public property, but did see both engines. Wow! Does 844 look good after her overhaul! Can't wait to see them in action over the weekend!

Meanwhile, the thermometer only read 103 yesterday, and should only hit 101 today. It seems we are in the midst of a bit of a chill! [(-D] And to think that I left home without my mittens this morning!

CW. Menu sounds good today. Where there is Pizza, you are sure to find Chris! Can I get a slice of Chicago Style Deep Dish, though? You can take the boy out of Chi-town, but you can't take Chi-town out of the boy!

....CW....No problems here during overnight from the weather...It did slide under us and I did hear of power outages in the Indy area around midnight but we escaped it all. Did get anothter half inch of rain in the rain gauge overnight which is all good. So guess most of us were lucky. Did hear of hail, wind and even of tornado spotting late last night west of us, etc....Don't know of any damage info if any...But today they say the rain / storm activity will give way to just heat and being dry in preparing for our max. temp projected for tomorrow of up to 96...!! Stay in the diner {if it has air}, and be cool.....

Quintin, overnight, we had several power outages here in the city. Luckily,
power for our area stayed on. We got some rain, winds, thunder & lightning
around 2:15, 2:30 this morning. It was heavy at times. Hope it did slide under
you for the bad stuff.

Breakfast this morning: turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits
& gravy, hash browns.

Lunch today: chicken fried rice.

Supper tonight: PIZZA.

RED ALERT:!!!!!!!!! Guys we need to save our railroads. Read this http://www.progressiverailroading.com/freightnews/article.asp?id=7225
This could end railroads, as we know it. E-mail Congressman Green at mark.green@mail.house.gov
I have already done so. Please (I'm pleading) send your congressman a letter tell him that will kill the railroad industry, that truck lines and others offer competition to railroads that are fighting to survive. Ask what happened to the Uncle Sam that supported the railroads. Use your power granted to you in the 1'st amendment of the US constitution. Let them hear you.
